My favorite awkward Alistair moment is when he tells you he loves you post-Goldanna (unhardened).  It's this tiny little "I love you" and I know his brain is running at a hundred miles an hour "OMG I can't believe I just said that what if she doesn't feel the same way how could you just blurt it out like that AHHHHHHHHH"  :wub:

In the conversation you have right outside her house?  What dialogue choice leads to that?  Not that I'm going to leave him unhardened, but I like to see all the options when I make my new save right before.

I think anything other than the hardening response, but he has to be at love to get it. It's ADORABLE.  He says "Before we go any further, I just want to say that you've been a true friend and....I love you." He says it in this way like he's lettting you think he means just as a friend if that's all you want it to mean but gosh he hopes you know he means that he really loves you - I'd love to know what the toolset VOs are here, actually.

It's also one of the few times where you can say "I love you too" back to him, instead of "I feel the same way".  <3  I usually end up going this route, then reloading and hardening him.

...theeen, he opens his mouth. :innocent:   This was actually a cute dialogue, though, about what Grey Wardens do when there aren't darkspawn around.  Doesn't help his manliness that he suggests he'd sit around knitting socks. LOL  He must not have liked Esra's snark back, however, since I got a -3.

Why do you keep on saying Anders is so unmanly? I don't find him particularly effeminate or anything. I guess I'm just not a fan of the whole gauging manliness thing, since it is so damn arbitrary and especially since that is a commonly used justification for hating Alistair (his "unmanly" character).

I'm kidding, of course.  But Anders does strike me as more of a girly-man.  Probably it's the cat.

I don't think this is girly at all!!

If you say so, yuki.

I do say so :P

But you see here, a man with a cat has to sit in his bathrobe.  A man with a dog can go running, shooting, hiking, slashing at things with swords.  Of course I refer to a real dog and not one of those rodent-like creatures people sometimes call dogs.

Anyway, I feel the intense glare of the Anders fangirls and thus will back slowly away. :lol:

It's understandable that an in-love PC would still be upset but it's slighty more understandable, I think, for the others to have begun to move forward if the coronation was a few weeks or months post-Alistair's death.

I don't know. They'd traveled and fought together for a year+, and been to hell and back in that time. Even if they didn't always like each other, they'd still built an odd sort of 'family'...I don't see the others moving on all that quickly either.

Exactly... they don't act much like Band of Brothers at the end of it all, even to the Warden.

It's amazing just how the Warden manages to find the most self-centered people in Thedas to join them on their epic quest.

I found it interesting that (in an Alistairless world) Zev and Sten seemed to be the only two who were willing to consider the Warden continuing to travel with them for a time, given they were the most independent seeming of the group. Zev actually says he'll go with the Warden, if she asks him. Aside from that, it's so long and thanks for all the fish. Hell, even the Dog doesn't seem to care about the Warden after.

And yet, if the Warden dies, that's when Leli actually decides to stick around. Strange motivations, these people.

I'm still annoyed that I was unable to 'meet Alistair upstairs later' after the parade.

Mind control is NEVER a good thing. Considering Commander Dryden wasn't that great of a person herself.

It depends on your reasons. I don´t think a spell is bad in itself.

You don't think removing someone's free will and controlling them is a bad thing?

It is always a bad thing. Dryden just wanted the throne for herself, and the manner in which she tried to accomplish this makes her no better than Arland.

All power can be used for good or ill. It depends on the user. For example Jaina...she's a blood mage, and she's dark, and insensitive to a point, but she chose blood magic to prevent anyone ever doing to her again what was done by Vaughn. She'd happily use mind control to make Caladrius free the slaves, or on the Tevinter mages to gain entry to the hospice. If she'd had half a chance she'd have used it to turn the Ogre on the rest of the horde to save Duncan and Cailan. What if a blood mage romanced Alistair, and made him king...and she saw him ready to sacrifice himself to end the blight, and took control so that SHE could do it, and both end the blight and save the king.

Ok, I'm not saying blood magic should be outlawed and is evil, but using it to overthrow a tyrant and replace that tyrant with someone like Dryden is not a good thing.

Did Dryden really want to be queen herself? I thought she just wanted to free the country from a tyrant.

Even if you´re right, however, I´d rather have her rule than Arland.

No I see such power as inherently evil, seizing another's mind and forcing them to do what they wouldn't normally do even if you think you are doing it for good reasons.
How long before that turns into "well it was easy to do this time, why not do it again" and then again and again...till you are doing it not for 'good' reasons but for your own selfish ones.  Over time power like that corrupts. It reminds me of a scene in the Xmen where Jean Gray used her telepathy to overwrite the memories/responses of Kitty Pryde's family so they wouldn't be angry at the Professor for endangering their daughter (in Kitty's introduction 2 issue story).  Prof was SHOCKED at her breach of ethics and it was the first hints of Dark Phoenix taking control.

and yes, I am a big geek who reads comics (or did at one time).
No...just...no, I will never be a blood mage though if you want to do it, more power to you but in my opinion such magic as that which takes another's will from them (for any reason) is inherently evil.  The ends NEVER justifies the means.

Yes.  I suspect you could probably turn the romance on right there outside of Goldanna's house and have this work.  He just has to be in a romance and at love, or else he'll tell you that "you're a true friend" and won't say that he loves you.  That made me sad when I did that, because I had never not had him say I love you there before!

Also, to try and make it clear, this is the next conversation you have, right after Goldanna's, the one you have to initiate.  Hence the "before we go any futher" part - this is the convo where you would otherwise confirm the hardening process, except it's with unhardened Alistair.  lol Was that perfectly muddy?

Does anyone else hate those fanfics where a female Warden turns down Morrigan's ritual but survives because she's pregnant (by Alistair even though the odds of that are ridiculous and they haven't been trying) and so she has the God baby?

Wait...whaaa? I don't even... There are FF's like that? With that kind of story? Lol, I'm glad that I stopped reading EVERYTHING a time ago, so unfortunately I missed such plot-jewels.

Occasionally she will even fake her own death because she doesn't want to explain that he's a daddy.

What? What? Is this with a Spared Loghain ending, because that is the only scenario I could see where a player would be not be comfortable enough with Alistair to tell him that she's pregnant.

I've usually seen it int he break-up scenario.  They're mad at Alistair and he "made his choice" conveniently forgetting it broke his friggin' heart.  And there is no excuse when he's not married to Anora and is still single.

And if it's a HN who can now becomes his Queen and the heir problem is solved almost before it starts then your head needs to explode more. I especially hate it when all the other companions, Fergus, Eamon...pretty much everyone important who isn't Alistair knows and when he finds out he takes her back. Does he have no self-respect? Love or no, if someone keeps your child from you for no real reason and leads you to believe that they are dead also for no real reason than I think that it is safe to say that that relationship is over and if I ever did that to someone and they wanted to stay with me then there's no way I'd ever respect them again.

I thought the idea of Fanfic was to write your OWN story, not about writing down the plot of the game.

It is. But some plots are stupid and you want to smack the characters for stupidity, selfishness, ****iness, needless cruelty, ect.

She had been running against Arland at the Landsmeet for the throne.  When Arland won, he sentenced her to the Grey Wardens and the Joining, which she at first hated, but later decided to throw herself entirely into.  Later, she used the Wardens to try and overthrow Arland who had become a tyrant, something she had suspected might happen when she tried to take the throne before.

Have you killed Avernus and made her reveal  Sophia's secrets to  Levi? So you are saying it is ok to use mind control to put the less of 2 evils on the throne? We aren't just talking about blood magic, they summoned demons. And plus, do we really know a lot about Arland other than what they say at Warden's keep? I admitadly haven't read all codex, but I need to hear more about Arland anyway in order to judge him.

She'd happily use mind control to make Caladrius free the slaves, or on the Tevinter mages to gain entry to the hospice.

Can you use mind control on fellow blood mages? Would they have some sort of defense for that? I mean, I know Wynne only mentions the litany but blood magic is not an option for her.

Did Dryden really want to be queen herself? I thought she just wanted to free the country from a tyrant.

Even if you´re right, however, I´d rather have her rule than Arland.

She was stirpped of her title of Arlessa and conscripted into the Wardens to neutralize her because she lost her bid for the throne but her supporters were too powerful to simply execute her and this was before Arland was even of age and showed himself to be a tyrant.

He doesn't have to be at love. My character was at "adore" when I got the conversation and he said he loved her. It switched to "love" then.

Yes, but people also do retelling fics.  It's a way of putting your own spin on the events of the story and showcasing what your character is like.  People play vastly different games and it's fun to get into other characters heads.

I like cats personally, but somehow putting one with a man doesn't have quite the  factor it apparently has for other women; rather the opposite, in fact.  To each her own.  The image that choked me up the most about the Ultimate Sacrifice ending was Alistair and my PC's mabari mourning her together.
