I think anything other than the hardening response, but he has to be at love to get it. It's ADORABLE.  He says "Before we go any further, I just want to say that you've been a true friend and....I love you." He says it in this way like he's lettting you think he means just as a friend if that's all you want it to mean but gosh he hopes you know he means that he really loves you - I'd love to know what the toolset VOs are here, actually.

It's also one of the few times where you can say "I love you too" back to him, instead of "I feel the same way".  <3  I usually end up going this route, then reloading and hardening him.

So wait, the romance has to be on and he's at Love, correct?

Yes.  I suspect you could probably turn the romance on right there outside of Goldanna's house and have this work.  He just has to be in a romance and at love, or else he'll tell you that "you're a true friend" and won't say that he loves you.  That made me sad when I did that, because I had never not had him say I love you there before!

Also, to try and make it clear, this is the next conversation you have, right after Goldanna's, the one you have to initiate.  Hence the "before we go any futher" part - this is the convo where you would otherwise confirm the hardening process, except it's with unhardened Alistair.  lol Was that perfectly muddy?

He doesn't have to be at love. My character was at "adore" when I got the conversation and he said he loved her. It switched to "love" then.

Ahhh you're right, Yuki.  (PS3 player, I can't see these things)  I should say he needs to be at Adore (is Adore enough or does it have to be 100 Adore or is there a difference?  Stupid console!), which will then switch to Love at this conversation, the same as it does when you take the hardening route....

Does anyone else hate those fanfics where a female Warden turns down Morrigan's ritual but survives because she's pregnant (by Alistair even though the odds of that are ridiculous and they haven't been trying) and so she has the God baby?

Wait...whaaa? I don't even... There are FF's like that? With that kind of story? Lol, I'm glad that I stopped reading EVERYTHING a time ago, so unfortunately I missed such plot-jewels.

I thought the idea of Fanfic was to write your OWN story, not about writing down the plot of the game.

Yes, but people also do retelling fics.  It's a way of putting your own spin on the events of the story and showcasing what your character is like.  People play vastly different games and it's fun to get into other characters heads.

I try to tell a new story and keep NPC's in character as much as possible without breaking canon too badly. If others want to do it and can write something thats in character (with NPC's) and explain how it was done to break canon I don't mind.  Too often "AU" is used as an excuse to just toss all game lore out the window and write whatever wish fulfillment fic the (Mary Sue) writer wants.  (And I am talking the truly stupid/heinous ones like Loghain's secret lust for the PC leading to wild passionate nights in camp where all the companiions WISH they were deaf)Posted Image

Have you killed Avernus and made her reveal  Sophia's secrets to  Levi? So you are saying it is ok to use mind control to put the less of 2 evils on the throne? We aren't just talking about blood magic, they summoned demons. And plus, do we really know a lot about Arland other than what they say at Warden's keep? I admitadly haven't read all codex, but I need to hear more about Arland anyway in order to judge him.

He had a reign of terror, killed everyone who didn´t obey, secured his tyranny with assassinations, put dead people on the road to show who´s boss and all that stuff.

Still don't see how this justifies controlling other's minds but I think we will just have to agree to disagree here. Posted Image

My biggest issue are these stories where the characters are so incredibly unlikeable, and not in a purposeful way. There are a few where Alistair, just regular, no-need-to-be-an-ass Alistair, is incredibly bleargh, either a total jackhole or weak, and I just want to know why the writer likes his character in the first place if that's how s/he sees him.

If it makes someone happy, why not? Personally, I have never read fanfic so far nor written it myself, and at the moment I do not intend to change that, but if someone wants to write this that´s fine. noone forces you to read it.

It is...in some kind of way. But if someone butchering the lore of the game to make their own thing, and cheapens down the characters in there with it, I hardly can take such a story serious. As simple as that.

Writing a play-through fic (I'm probably one of few people who is doing that with the Dalish origin. I've never seen a COMPLETED playthrough-fic with Mahariel after all), I'm naturally bounded to the original plot in some kind of way, but I take a lot of liberties and add scenes. Still it is important to me that the story and chars stays believable, and true to the original in some kind of way. Otherwise it's not a FF anymore, but an original story who happens to have familiar names and places.

Though, to each their own, I guess.

She'd happily use mind control to make Caladrius free the slaves, or on the Tevinter mages to gain entry to the hospice.

Can you use mind control on fellow blood mages? Would they have some sort of defense for that? I mean, I know Wynne only mentions the litany but blood magic is not an option for her.

I think they'd have had to build up the resistance, my blood mage doesn't have any inherent big defense against it.

It's also nice to write in original events and things that the game cannot possibly add.  As long as you stay in characters (which some people cannot do) I'm really fine with most of what retelling stories do.

I know, huh?  I really wish the game allowed you get some of these dialogues with a hardened Alistair.  Is it really so absurd to think you can both comfort him adn tell him people suck?

I've yet to see an Aeducan playthrough fic besides the one I'm wiriting although I have seen a few that just show scenes from the game devoted to her love for Alistair and the complications him being King causes and soignee's is the only Brosca one I've encountered. We really need more fics with some of the less-common origins.

I don't, I just think such things are a waste of time. If I actually write a story I want to put on the internet I am going to try to stick with the established lore (Like my mage isn't going to suddenly convince the nobles at the landsmeet she should be queen).  If someone wants to write something like that more power to them, I just find such garbage fics a waste of my time to read (IE I don't enjoy them).
