I don't, I just think such things are a waste of time. If I actually write a story I want to put on the internet I am going to try to stick with the established lore (Like my mage isn't going to suddenly convince the nobles at the landsmeet she should be queen).  If someone wants to write something like that more power to them, I just find such garbage fics a waste of my time to read (IE I don't enjoy them).

Bad example, because it is so easy to achieve that without breaking game lore. Bloodmage mind control, anyone?

I actually wish this option would have been in the game to start with.

yes but then that would entail following those nobles around and making sure they don't come to their senses. No where in game lore does it say you can get away with that with blood magic.  Even Avernus says they couldn't push too hard.  And sooner or later chantry would be all over the nobles who were controlled, and the erstwhile queen for using it.  Blood magic is powerful but its not God Mode powerful and its no good if the Templars coming after her cleave her head from her shoulders with cold hard steel. They are BUILT to resist/dispel those kinds of magics.
Also I wasn't talking about a Blood Mage in the first place, just giving an example of how being a mage/elf/dwarf would break game lore if you declare yourself (instead of Alistair or Anora) as queen.

And there is of course the fact that Alistair is himself a templar, and abhors blood magic...I'm betting he would not only resist, but do the cleaving himself...oh sure he'd feel awful about it, but he does have his standards.

Your PC is hot, syl.  *is jealous*

Did you create him yourself, or is he based on a custom morph?

Thanks. I figured if I was going to play a guy and give up the Alistair love/tent times mod for a bit I would make him as nice looking as I could.  I made him with my own two little hands (in the CC so he can be reused as often as I need) off of one of the Vanilla presets.  I was going for a kind of young-Teagan look.

I could see an elf queen long before a mage queen. Mages are feared and reviled by the general populace, there is no way the Chantry would allow a mage to become queen and have access to that much power. I find it slightly implausible that they allow a mage to be Chancellor.

Maybe my mage PC should ask the High Cleric if she wants to preach the Archdemon to death then, if magic is so evil a mage can´t marry her lover even after saving the country and stopping the blight?

Considering that the king / queen has the power to free the circle from the chantry I don´t see why they shouldn´t be able to marry a mage then.

"Magic exists to SERVE man NOT rule over them" that's why. Hate the chantry or not, that's the law of the land.

To be fair, if the mage requests to be made ruler of the country after saving it, this does raise pretty valid concerns about their possible motives for that saving in the first place.

And they´re valid enough. Unless you´re RPing a selfless person a mage or elf has very little reason to save the Fereldans other than the hope to improve the situation for his class / race.

What? Saving your own ass isn't a good enough reason?  Blight will kill the PC just like anyone else. I guess you can bail and run away but then the game would be pretty short then wouldn't it?Posted Image

I doubt that. At least he didnt mind me using blood magic on Loghain and his soldiers in the landsmeet, and why should he? He says often enough that he is not really loyal to the chantry.

He is pretty cute. My male humans always look like meathead jerks. Seriously, I wanted Finn Cousland to be a charming guy, but every time I saw him all I could think was "What a meathead":

He basically stuck around long enough to unlock Morrigan's achievement and make Alistair Hate Talk him.

Yeah, wonderful how they've translated 'don't use mind control or let your magic control you' into 'mages must be subservient to everyone else.' Posted Image

Very nice.  I have a lot of trouble making males.  I was graciously gifted a Fergus head to work off so they could look like brothers, but I think I want to tweak it a little more.

If I only had one person left I would prefer it to be Wynne so I could feed her lyrium and bring everyone else back. Having to take down Flemeth with only Zevran when she still had half her health? Not fun.

In Oblivion I laughed when I found all the Imperial Guards were carrying pieces of mutton, because after that I kept thinking of them as mutton-heads.  Doesn't help that they're always throwing themselves on your blade and then crying "murder!  murder!"

My CE was just trying to go back home and to ensure there actually was home to return to after it was spelt out to her there's no one else who'd pick up the slack. It was never selfless and never about big pictures like fate of countries or racial PR. That it happened to "save Ferelden"? There's worse side-effects than that, i guess...

I'd imagine a mage could also have quite a few selfish reasons to want to dabble with the Archdemon that aren't about ruling countries -- see Morrigan for the tips, and there's also the whole thing how the Old Gods were the ones who taught people powerful magic in the first place. Actually when you think of it, what's so interesting for a mage in ruling the country anyway? Compared to power of magic it's mundane, boring sh.t

Thanks, syl. I think it was one of those cases where you catch a character at a certain angle and whatever you think at that moment just sticks. He was sometimes bearable with Morrigan.

Ron Mahariel turning out so well is like a miracle. My other male elves were Soris clones.

My characters wanted to improve the situation for mages and elves, and they wanted to make sure Ferelden gets a good ruler for once. You can noone trust to rule good as much as yourself. Loghain has shown pretty well that Ferelden needs a powerful and caring ruler. And of course they wanted to stay with Alistair and still have him take the throne.

The Arl of Redcliffe can't count his own SON as his heir, because Conner is a mage, not even a blood mage, just a mage. The law of the land decrees that a mage cannot hold a position of power. This includes queen. If you want to go further, then let's say you do get away with it, and by some miracle, have a child. That child may be a mage, and therefor cannot be his heir, and the country is in turmoil yet again, when you both reach your calling because of the mind control that got you there in the first place. Of course if you want to completely circumvent the lore of the game, there's a mod out there for it somewhere. But as it stands, you want to be queen, you play a Cousland.

Changing laws such as this is exactly the reason WHY my mage wants to rule. The chantry suppression of mages has gone too long already. It is time to step into Andraste´s footsteps and raise up to free the land of suppression.

Of course it doesn´t matter that much because I can always roleplay my bloodmage mindcontrols whoever rules.

Oh, and in fact everyone can rule by making unhardened Alistair solo king and being chancellor.

Except neither a mage nor elf really knows much about ruling a country, especially in elf case where that country is largely populated by different race you're likely to be prejudiced against (and vice-versa) It's hardly sign of a good ruler to gloss over their own limitations of such important nature and let their ego decide for them, so imo if such person wants to rule and think they would be the best at it... it's very sign they aren't actually suited for that.

Sure, there's Alistair to back the player up if they're female, but then it's very much a case of a blind leading a blind.

and your arguments are exactly WHY the Chantry cracks down on mages.  Such out of control BS is why they are in towers and kept under lock and key.  Its why blood magic is so evil, using it to further your own selfish goals.
I am of the mind that mages need some checks and balances esp if they are untrained *Points to Connor* or simply out of control and making stupid choices *Points to Jowan*.  I believe the Circle is a necessary evil to protect mages from the populace who would doubtless kill them if they suddenly blood magic'ed up people or set their heads on fire.  (I wonder how many mages are killed before the templars find them?)  It also protects the populace from such sterling examples of mages like Uldred and Avernus.Posted Image

Top of page Alistair...he makes a wonderful Bromance too.  Sort of a Brothers in arms pic...
