I think it's mostly the fear of being absorbed fully into Ferelden, that makes the Couslands remain in Highever.
Notice how the human noble is asked to remain in Highever and not join the army. I think it's largely because of that.
Well, to be fair, the teyrn and his heir are going. It makes sense that your parents don't want to risk both heirs in a single battle.

I always took it as Bryce and Eleanor didn't want to send both of their heirs into battle. Eleanor will scold you if you demand to fight during Howe's seige. She tells you not to throw your life away because if you die there than the Cousland line will end.

The good news is, Leliana and I BOTH have hair now. The bad news is...I don't like sharing.
It's working pretty well on her as an arcane warrior, I added a crapton of stam and mana regen on the winter forge though. Fatigue hits about 20ish% with *insert aw ability I forget the nam of here* up.

Actually, aside from the Cullenhair, I see it. That armor looks amazing, though.

Both reason coexist and are entertwined. It's clear the Couslands are not going to compromise on their power. And as we all know, the feudal order ended and the absolutist monarchy started when the king was able to tear the nobles away from their lands and put them in his court (best example is Louix IV and Versaille).
So it's imperative for the Couslands to remain in Highever, if they want to mantian their quasi-autonomy.

I understand what you're saying. The reason I said that more than the other is because Eleanor could of stayed alone and fullfilled her obligation as Teyrna. Eleanor made an excuse for the PC to be there by wanting to leave w/ Bann Loren's wife to go have tea parties or w/e noble pastime they had planned.

Ahhh. I can see how that would be irritating. It's why my canon HNF is so serious. She wants to be taken seriously as a warrior.

Much more intimidating than Alistair, yes.
And I don't know if it's just me, but yes I thought she was pretty intimidating. Not the scary kind. But the kind that seem to radiate authority. Loghain describing her made that even more apparent.
