I still don't see how Alistair is deserting Ferelden. But I'm saying that it is stupid to kill the son of such an important figure, which most nobles know by the time the Landsmeet comes around.
He abandonned Ferelden in the middle of the Blight and right when we know that the Archdemon is mobalising his horde (deep road cutscene). That's deserting Ferelden.
And seeing how the epilogue goes perfectly well for my Cousland and Anora and how not one noble, not even Eamon, ended up caring for the lost Thereins. I say the decision was a pretty good one.

And Loghain still deserted the king, which is treason, regicide, and desertion. Most importantly, he wasn't doing it "strategically". He was doing it because Cailan suggested that they allow the Orlesian forces to help them.
Nope. Loghain pulled his forces back because he wanted to strengthen Ferelden's borders with Orlais, as the Orlesians are amassing 4 legions of Chevaliers, which is double the number they had at the Battle of the River Dane.
It was a strategic and miltiary action to fend off a perceieved threat, which turned out to be not as urgent as he thought it was.
And once again, I never denied the idea that you coudl executeLoghain with this in mind. It's valid. I simply don't see it that way.
