The Dalish act like such patronizing jerks about it if that CE from the Dalish origin is any indication. If things weren't so bad in the Alienages...Gilsa wrote...
I like that city elves sometimes try to find the dalish to try to reconnect with their heritage. I like that it gets mentioned in both elf origins.
Why do they do that, anyway? Are they trying to test them to see if they can be trusted by seeing if they can stand up to rudeness and smug receptions?

Isn't Alistair's awkwardly bad timing part of his charm?Sarah1281 wrote...
I don't know...you'd think in the Dalish camp with all the shem-hating elves would really not be the best place for Alistair to have a confession of liking to a Dalish girl that, if she feels the same way, will potentially have human children (I know they can't but do the Dalish?) and that's pratically the worst case scenario for Dalish clans. What if the Dalish overhear that? That's not going to endear them to the Wardens.Axekix wrote...

The squee of the evening, Idun got her rose. In the Dalish camp, no less. I confess I clicked accidentally on him when we were somewhere else, realized it was rose time, so I reloaded and picked a quiet little spot. I figure she was showing him around the camp, maybe showing him where the privy is and how to use it. LOL I picture Alistair sitting on the pot trying to work up the courage to give her the rose, while Idun stands outside and finally yells "are you alright?!" Finally he appears and shoves the rose at her... Oh Maker, I love the Alistair romance. There is so much LOL andall at once.
Damn it, you made me make an "aww" post.
I know the characters aren't often aware of where they are when having their dialogues but...time and place, Alistair. Time and place. If you can't wait, do it when you're in the forest away from the anti-elf/human Dalish.

Thanks. There are too few of us to have a Dalish appreciation thread, I think, so I borrow Alistair. But since he gets lots of Dalish booty in my games, it's a fair trade.Gilsa wrote...
Just want to say that while I'm not an elf fan in general, I love your passion for elves. I love hearing you talk about Dalish related stuff and how you go out of your way to show all the cool stuff related to being a dalish elf. It's also interesting to hear how a Dalish would react to a romance with a human as opposed from the dwarven perspective.
I'm jealous of the dwarf-lovers because it seems your lore is more well-thought-out. We have to make stuff up and patch the pieces together, part of the reason I'm trying to pay attention so closely this game, to catch things I've missed and record them for reference.
A bit of the Dalish-Ali love from ten or so pages back, then I'm off to bed.

Zevran doesn't work for me either as my Dalish view him distainfully as a flatears. Pretty much. Different strokes for different folks, etc so forth.

I guess the lore being so patchy is somewhat a reflection of the Dalish history, but at the same time I do wish there was more (and that the mentions in the book meshed better with the game).

Okay, I know GWs can't have children together but if fertility were not affected then would the DE/Alisair pairing still be so attractive as she'd be sacrificing her heritage to pop out human babies or would that make her think twice?
For mine, I don't think it would matter. She's already sacrificed that, by joining the wardens. That's her clan now, and Alistair her...what do Dalish call them? I'll use life mate, for now.

Well, in a way, being so close to the human king could have major advantages for the Dalish, especially if she is shooting out human babies. I do have a hard time imagining any Dalish woman accepting the 'mistress' role however.Sarah1281 wrote...

My Dalish really are the epitome of DIE SHEMLEN to be honest. My dude!Mahariel is polite, cold and distant and gets the job done, my lady Dalish just hates you all.

No, I think it was the perfect place. I was posting yesterday that I thought my PC was feeling ashamed on behalf of her companions at the clan's rudeness, and also self-conscious as she can see, from an outside perspective now, how primitive her life has been. I imagine that being back with the Dalish also makes her feel torn about her new life versus her old. So, having Alistair thank her for being a Grey Warden is exactly what she needed to hear. And now they get to exchange furtive, meaningful glances across the campfire.Sarah1281 wrote...

That's a good point. The rose isn't really a confession of love yet. It's more a "I appreciate you" thing for him. And the best thing in your scenario, is he has just seen you get snarked at by your own people, seen one of your own betray his clan, and you too really. He does have the good timing.
Better timing than swooping a mage in the middle of the redcliffe village square...lol

As I see it, she more than others is aware that in a sense her life ended on the day she was corrupted by the mirror. The taint sickness was in her from that point and she is on borrowed time. The funeral the clan had for Tamlen was her own funeral, too. She is not really Dalish anymore. If you read my story (not a plug, srsly), you'll see that she is coming around to the idea that the Grey Wardens are now her clan. From there, seeing Alistair as her clanmate is no leap at all. In fact, in my story, it's staring her straight in the face and she still doesn't see it. At this point in my game, her eyes are starting to open. And yes, it is almost the unthinkable, but that's part of what makes it soSarah1281 wrote...
