It makes me wonder if people who go for Zevran are looking for the epic fairy tale love where they can fix a guy and he will put them on a pedestal and worship them?
Edit: I ask this here because I don't to start a discussion over there. I don't think they'd appreciate this.

I love anime, but pretty much despise anything that involves teenagers because it is usually about high school drama BS. Only exception being Lucky Star, which I should despise but actually really liked. I liked the creepy people going on about how hot and ~moe~ the characters were a lot less, though >:|
One I really liked recently is Michiko e Hatchin, I haven't really kept up with anything past 2008 though.
Would I be remiss in suggesting Ouran High School Host Club? Sounds dumb, I know, but it really was an awesome show.
Oh! I actually watched that one. Quite enjoyed it up until the end <_<
The last episode redeemed it for me.
Have you seen Scrapped Princess? I think it will remain one of my all time favorites. *squees over Shannon*

Someone also lurking in the Zev thread? Sometimes it's interesting when they compare Zevran and Alistair. Of course, Zevran wins all the way because the Warden is his one true love while Alistair is ... well, Alistair. Insecure, duty-bound, won't propose and dares to break up with you.

I think people who love Zevran love him because the relationship ends in such an unexpected place and he's deeper than you'd expect him to be.
I get shirty about comparing Alistair and Zev because one is so much more a puppet of the game's plot than the other, so a straight-on A v. Z discussion is extraordinarily hard to do and have it be fair to both characters.
I am a horrible communicator today.

Fine, then as a reader of both, I'll answer HERE! Mwahahahaahahahaha!
I didn't realize a comparison was going on there -- we were actually discussing the woman before the warden, and what his feelings for her were.
But yeh, there are reasons Zevran will break up with a warden. Earlier in the relationship, if you can't accept his sexual past. At lower approval if you haven't had sex with him, if you're marrying someone else (for political reasons). Later on, if you don't return his feelings OR if you cannot make a commitment to him of sorts.
Is this bad? Is it worship? I don't think so. Is it fairy tale? Actually, yeh, a bit. It's not the warden "fixing" Zevran, though, IMO. He's amazingly whole in truth. But he does fall in love, and it's a love that is deep and enduring.
Edit: I do agree that you really cannot compared the two relationships. I like contrasting them, but that's because they both start at such different places and end up so unexpectedly.

I go for him based on my character's personality. Or events that happen in the game, or both.
Aidan romanced Alistair the whole game. She became close with Zev, as friends. After the landsmeet, Alistair broke up with her, for duty. Which, being an Aeducan, she understood. Even if it broke her heart. Having already lost Gorim, and now Alistair, she found comfort in Zev, the friendship grew to be more, and she finally found the one man that she could love, for keeps.
Jaina, traumatic life before the circle, thinks love is a joke, and takes her pleasure where she can fid it. Zev fits the bill perfectly, and they'll both learn about love together. She's a blood mage, Alistair is never going to Accept that, and she will never touch a human man.
Tryna Brosca- also a match to Zevran's personality, she actually enjoys a good killing, understands coming from a tough life. She knows sex can be a casual thing, and she's ok with that. Not that she's written of love, or doesn't think it exists, she's open to both and takes whatever comes her way in that respect.
Karynne Tabris- City elf to city elf, immediate bond there.
Where my Dalish, Amell, and Cousland all find themselves with Alistair because they share common interests and personality traits.

I think this is how I have to look at it. Zev and Alistair are two different guys in two different places - it's too hard to really compare the two and have it be fair.
I like Zev. But I adore the knight in shining armor, awkwardly cute, innocent and yet flirtatious types - so that means Al is going to win for me every time. Not all of my characters will have the same tastes, of course, but the ones who are most like me are going to fall for Alistair.

Yeah, I don't do Zev-Ali comparisons. I like to let them stand on their own. But I can't begrudge people who enjoy poking fun at Alistair or dissing him since I indulge the same impulse with Leliana and Wynne on occasion. I just have to look away.SurelyForth wrote...

I agree, but not only that but they are completely different people.
To be honest, I don't particularly like the Zevran romance. I used to lurk in the Zevran thread because the people over there are funny but his romance is disappointing. But to be fair, that may be because I was told that it was deep and awesome. And I had a hard time communicating with Zevran, because when you joke with him he will act like he is taking it lightly and then you lose approval with him. The Alistair romance feels the more natural than Morrigan and Zevran's romances, mostly because I feel like if I say the wrong thing then it will pretty much end the relationship. I don't preform well under pressure lol.
I'd say Leliana's romance is the second most natural, and it is pretty sweet, but she is
