Dalish arcane warriors just feel so right, IMO. It makes sense as to why they'd have weapons training from the get-go. I've never been able to comfortably play an AW from the tower, I just imagine them being pretty awful when it comes to any sort of physical fighting.

I imagine at the circle, Caislyn trained on weapons, and physical prowess with the Templars. Which, is much better than the dipsticks practicing FIRE spells in the library...lol

Arcane Warriors don´t have any meelee combat training, in fact. They use their magic instead.

Realllllllly that's why they can use shields and swords then? If that were true, they'd be still restricted to staff only.

"Among the ancient elves, there were mages who trained their magical arts
to augment their martial prowess. They channeled magical power through
their weapons and bodies, becoming terrors on the battlefield. Most
consider these skills lost forever, but they may still linger in
forgotten corners of the world. Arcane warriors may learn to use their
magic score to satisfy the strength requirement to equip higher-level
weapons and armor.
"

The use the magic for strength, but the description clearly states martial prowess.

Edit may take hours to show up!

I understand it they have very little martial prowess but gain much due to their magic^^

Yeah, I don't think it magically makes them combat fighters. I see it as using magic to augment their preexisting fighting skills. As regular mages they're not as strong as other fighters with weapons, but by learning AW skills it gives them a big boost to the point where they're able to fight in the mix as well.

How?..They use magic powers to AUGMENT martial prowesss. By definition Augment means To make (something already developed or well under way)
greater, as in size, extent, or quantity. They've already developed the weapon skills, they use mgic to further increase them.

At least my explanation explains why they can´t use weapon talents in vanilla :P

To be honest, they don´t show much skill. Only autohitting VERY strongly.

Augment their martial prowess.  They have skill with weapons and arms, they just use their skills to make them better.

That was a huge WTF on the dev team's part. weapon skills should show up if that spec is picked, really. I blame the bongwater.

You can look at it as most mages don't ever use weapons, so the new order of AWs is different than the original.

True. I suppose a mage who trained as AW from the very start would learn non-magical fighting as well. But today´s mages are not allowed to anymore because the templars forbid it.

I admit my first mage, I only took the spec so I could wear plate. But now that I'm playing Caislyn, and really trying to learn it...holy crap I love it.

He says this particular line to all women who flirt with him though.  It's the "I can think of many good reasons to risk such danger" that mages specifically get.

Yes, when the PC says "it would take a brave man to marry a mage," he answers, "I could think of many reasons why a man would be so... brave."  And the last word has this really salacious note to it, like he'd be biting your ear right there in the Chantry if he had the chance.  LOL

Or, since our mages ARE from the circle, and are young...the circle permits it, and the Templars supervise the instruction, and handle the weapon training. After all, they'd be the best option. They can not only instruct in the weapon training, they can control the mages.

Addai, Dalish stuff!

Sylaise's codex entry mentions that they sprinkle "aravels with Sylaise's fragrant tree-moss" and also sing to her in thanks when starting and putting out fires - this might be the "jasmine-like-scent" we discussing before!

I can't really see the chantry letting mages get their hands on weapons on top of magical training, to be honest.

Oh, could be.  In my story I had the mattresses as being made of moss- I was thinking of that line though I guess sprinkle is a bit more liberal a term.

Dalish elves smell like/like the smell of Jasmine? For real?  LOL I didn't know that but used it for my Dalish character in my fic as a signature scent left over in her bedding (all Alistair had left of her) wow...Posted Image

I'm not suggesting they can carry them around the tower. Just that they can be taught, under templar control, as a daily training session. Kinda like they do when they do weapons training with soldiers. They sign out the weapons, us them under strict supervision, and are required to turn them back in, and sign them in afterwards.

Oh I get it... so they would have been burning Sylaise moss when they started the fire.  Probably their cooking fire, since it says they were all eating.

They don't give Loghain and Maric any food.  Posted Image  Not very nice of them.  But I wouldn't mind seeing an artist rendering of the Dalish man with the long brown hair and amulet.  He sounds kind of Posted Image.

Oh, I wasn't talking about walking around with weapons or anything, but that the chantry and templars would train them in fighting ability. It'd make controlling them that much more difficult, especially if they escape. It'd be like giving guns to your enemy when they already have bombs that can obliterate you, in my opinion.

lol That's the Dalish in you talking now....

I have just discovered that a number of codexes on the Dalish change depending on whether you're Dalish or not.... How did I never notice this?!
