How is it more dangerous than entropy, spirit schools, primal schools? Again, these are not hundreds of mages flouncing about the tower carrying weapons full time.
That's not really the point. Alistair says when describing templar skills that "compared to anyone else I'm just a guy in a metal suit." Teaching mages to handle themselves in melee combat makes them MUCH more dangerous to templars than the ordinary robe wearer who only has spells (which they can "disrupt") to rely on. You do recognize that don't you?
It doesn't seem plausable for the templars to encourage that, even on a small scale.
And again again AGAIN we aren't talking about mages running willy nilly about the tower wavig a danged weapon! Ya know what, ya'll are right, I'm wrong, I fail at RP< I suck, whatever.
Jess, since it's your RP, you can't suck at it! The mages and templars can feel/do whatever you feel is plausible in your own RP.
And your AW is your SH, right? So she's a good girl. She could've had a templar who befriended her, and when she asked for lessons in swordplay he liked her enough and saw her talent, and wanted to teach her. There don't have to be general fighting lessons for mages, it could be just a select few or even just your girl.
There's a lot of novels where a girl gets training as a warrior in a time when women aren't even supposed to pick up a weapon, because some warrior sees their aptitude and likes them (likes them as a daughter, friend, lover, etc).
So I don't think your girl learning how to fight at the circle is any great stretch of imagination. There's always a way to RP it.
