She tells either Alistair or Loghain (possibly both) that the child will not know who it's father is. Then again, that could be because it's Alistair or Loghain and she doesn't like them.

I don't recall her saying that??

I think it's when Loghain says he wants to know that the child will not be used against Ferelden because the last thing Anora needs is a little brother trying to take her throne and Morrigan insists that the child will know nothing of him.

There's a line where she says something similiar when Alistair asks about the child.

I interpeted that as meaning knowing his name to find out who the father is, but not necessarily the "who" of his character, or of the people he came from.

Besides, Morrigan promised she is going to teach the kid to respect "that from which it came", which I can only assume refers to the father. And his testicles.

Is that really the interpretation you had of that line? Or are you being silly?

Testicles thing? Being silly Posted Image

Father thing? Perhaps being wishful. But yes that's what I interpretted "respect that from which it came", in the context that it was said in. I could be wrong.

I interpet the line as coming from a society -- to teach him/her to respect humanity and the love that can spring from interpersonal relationships. Something that Morrigan has learned with the PC, whether friend or lover.

In a RP situation where Morrigan never learned that, I would be much more hesitant as to what she would teach the child, and what it would become.

I just took that line to mean 'I will tell it all about the old gods.'

That's how I understood it too. I wonder if the M!PC is the King-consort, if she tells the child that? Or is she just leaves that part out (if she says anything about the Warden at all)

None of that stuff bothers me, the only thing that bothers me is that she needs someone who is tainted so that her child will have the taint. Despite the fact that the taint doesn't pass the placenta and the baby shouldn't have the taint. But maybe that can be hand-waved by saying it is part of the ritual. But the child should become the archdemon since it is tainted, and when an Old God is tainted it becomes an archdemon.

But the whole logic of the Grey Warden sacrifice is that the old god's soul is drawn to the taint in a Grey Warden and both are destroyed.  It's not that the GW becomes a darkspawn.  So a GW baby is not going to become a darkspawn, either.  It will either die just as an adult Warden would, or it will be changed into something else like Morrigan said.

See and that is your choice. I would get bored making Alistair king every time. I would get bored doing the DR every time or not siding with either the Dalish/werewolves or anulling the circle. All I am saying is that one could look at the DR as selfish as well. I like Morrigan a lot, but I do not trust her to raise a baby with the soul of a god. I wouldn't trust the revered mother with that task.

Current Completed Playthroughs..

Aidan, DNF, Alistair King, ritual performed, went toOrzammar, Romanced Zev.
Tess HNF, Alistair exiled, DR performed, returned to the wardens
Kasha...married Alistair, DR done, returned to the wardens
Karynne, CEF Alistair King, DR performed returned to the GW with Zev
Evielle Human Mage, Anora queen, GW ending with Alistair.

I enjoy Awakening, and won't kill my warden then handwave it to play them further, so, everyone lives. I'm happy with my endings differing by little things like romances and boons, or what I did during the game that effects the end slides (Kaitlynn marrying Teagan, Bevin becoming a hero, Dagna getting to go to the circle or not, etc). And if the baby becomes something in another adventure, I don't want to have to handwave that either. I may do one sacrifice, eventually but only one.

Even though my character and Morrigan were friends, she had no illusions that Morrigan would lie to her if Morrigan thought it was for the best. I interpreted the line as being that she would raise it to respect power and preservation. To respect that it was given another chance.

SOOOO

IMPORTANT QUESTION AHEAD!!!

We all know that it would be cool if Alistair was Fiona´s son.

BUT! Loghain says Maric couldn´t accept Alistair as his son for Rowan´s sake because doing so would reduce her to his mistress instead of the Queen. That means Alistair must have been born before Rowan´s death, i. e. before Maric met Fiona, too.

Is our hope forfeit?!

No because the timeline is screwed and David Gaider has admitted as such. Also, I take that to mean that Maric doesn't want to sully the memory of Rowan rather than Rowan herself. He's pretty torn up over her death even in The Calling which is meant to be set five years on.

If the timeline was accurate and Alistair was Fiona's son, it would also make Cailan ten years older than Alistair, which is a bit much - I figure Cailan is five years older at most.

I'm dead certain Fiona is meant to be Alistair's mother - given Maric's reaction to her son at the end of the Calling I'm pretty certain he wasn't the type to go off sleeping with serving maids.

Alistair asks if she's going to use the child against Ferelden, if his bastard heir is going to show up some year.  She replies, basically, "hell no."  You could take that to mean he won't know who his father is, but I've always interpreted it as a promise not to use the child to threaten the country somehow.

As for the meaning of the line "respect that from which it came," I understand this in light of what she says right before that, that she's going to raise the child apart from the rest of the society.  The implication being, she'll teach him to respect human society, at least certain parts of it (obviously not things like the templars).

How long does she intend to stay with the Wardens and how much time will she spend with them? Amaranthine is too far away from Denerim for her to really spend much time there since she has responsibilites she can't avoid as Queen.

But why would her baby be any different than the Warden or Alistair? Because it is young? Because of her ritual? How powerful is that ritual that it can blend two souls together, or keep a child from dying like a Warden?

Argh, and the fact that she needs someone who hasn't been tainted long, would anyone care to explain that?

On a side note (but actually not terribly off topic) here is my new avatar. What do you guys think?

Amaranthine is really close to Denerim actually - have a look at the map ;).

According to Morrigan, it's because it is so young.  She says "at this early stage..."

Argh, and the fact that she needs someone who hasn't been tainted long, would anyone care to explain that?

I take that as a question of fertility.  The longer the taint is in the blood, the fewer the swimmers the man has.

I guess that makes sense, but shouldn't that mean that Alistair could have children? Or is the the F!PC fault?

One warden can have kids. Two wardens apparently can't.

Yes, one Warden has limited fertility but still can have a child.  If you put two Wardens together, both with limited fertility, the chances are all but nil.  Well, according to Gaider, nil "by natural means."

Presumably by the time he did realize it it was too late to change it.

Actually princess consort, with comes with only the responsibilities the king allows, which in her case is..being a grey warden commander, with hiss blessing no less ("Good, I'm glad at least one of us is staying with them"). And Amranthine isn't far, epilogue slide said the visited as often as possible.
