I am a freak. I have only 1 ending with each pc. I won't re-do it or anything. I pick a story and stick to it.

Me too C-Maz (may I call you C-Maz?  lol).  Once i do something with a PC, I leave it.  If I want to experience the alternative, I create another character.  And my first PC always ends up being my overall canon.  Although, I will admit, I cheated with DA.  I watched my husband play it through once before I played (it started out as a gift for him), so I knew about the whole US thing.  So Mel was kind of spoiled in that she manipulated the ending.

...seriously, whenever I see "cmessaz" it sounds like C-Maz in my head Posted Image

I don't like unhardened Alistair, I usually harden him and just give him Duncan's shield to make up for the approval loss when I don't make him king.

I honestly don't see how someone can DISLIKE unhardened Alistair. He is sweeter.

TBH, I hope they toss out the whole hardening thing out the window in future games. I'm just not a fan of manipulating someone's personality like that and if they HAVE to do it, then do that to all companions, not just a couple.

I hate doing it. I'll be honest. I wish it didn't exist.

Isn't there like one and only one dialog choice that allows personality hardening to occur? I wouldn't mind it so much if it seemed more like a culmination of events instead of just one thing.

I think it's b/c he remains that insecure person.  It's not that I dislike him, but I like how hardened Alistair ends up more.

Unhardened tell you he loves you after Goldannas for starters. Many more later.

There were more lines originally, but in the editting process it got thinned down to just that one line for hardening and DG didn't catch that oversight until it was too late. He agrees that one line was too harsh on its own, but it is what it is. Leliana has several different ways to be hardened if I'm not mistaken.

Its hard for me (no pun intended) to harden Alistair unless I'm playing a complete b!tch. I still can not justify ever saying that line.

I will never harden Alistair when he isn't going to be king. He would lead a life of regret.

huge freaking difference at the Landsmeeet.  I normally harden him but this time I didn't, I wanted to see how different he was.  He annoyed me so much I wanted to slap him and KILL EAMON!!!  He has no confidence in himself at all and his decisions were all diffident.  For the first time playing I hated him.

Right after I went to Goldanna's and hardened him up.  He's sweet but so damn wishy washy unhardened which for me is VERY much a turn off.Posted Image

I see. I did not know that.

So if he is unhardened then he will tell you that he loves you before the tent scene?

So instead of comforting your friend who has just been through a hard time, would you really tell them to suck it up because everyone is like that?

While I wouldn't say it that way...yes.  That's why my PC's tell him that.  He's so hurt by what Goldanna is like, and they knew it probably wouldn't go well.  They feel like they owe it to him to teach him to protect himself a little bit.

Unhardened Alistair will dread being married to the woman that will remind him of the man he hates. Hardened Alistair will say that if Anora thinks she's going to rule the kingdom by herself, she's in for a shock.

Unhardened Alistair will be grateful he's not king and feel like he dodged a bullet. Hardened Alistair would have some reservations about the idea of Anora ruling, but agreeing that he'd much rather be a Grey Warden instead.

Unhardened Alistair will fall apart if you do the ultimate sacrifice. Hardened Alistair will cope better.
