If it's mean, why does Alistair give you a +1 approval for saying it? He obviously doesn't take it as being mean, even though he's at a vulnerable point.
I don't actually think that it's mean, I think that it's hard advice that's good for him to hear - but that's me, personally, not my RP characters.
Some of the best advice is something you don't want to hear, but that is good for you. I think Alistair realises it's good for him, and gives you a postive approval.

This comment is coming across wrong, I just don't want to argue. If you don't wanna leave him unhardened then don't I am just trying to justify my position not talk others into doing it.

Are we arguing? I was just putting my two cents in. I just want some attention:(
EDIT: By "putting my two cents in", I mean I was just talking about how I do it. Some people prefer purple over blue, who am I to tell them what they like?
Also, I just like hearing myself talk (type?)

It's rarely an issue in my games, but I don't think hardening Leliana is mean, either. It's obvious her Chantry business is a sham. Not that she might not have any belief at all, but it's like she's wearing a face and just telling her to drop it already seems fair to me, since she's probably keeping it up for the Warden's sake to begin with.Kryyptehk wrote...
I cheat and imagine a different line in place of that particular one. But most of my characters would want him to be serious about his life and not hide from others. They (usually, mind you) think that he would be happier if he wasn't under someone's thumb all the time. That includes her's. I consider it helpful advice, rather than telling him how to be (unlike the Leliana hardening convo)

I don't think it's mean either, I just think that you shouldn't telling her how to be. It comes across that way to me, unlike the advice you give Alistair.

If that makes you horrible then I am horrible too. I have some games where he's not hardened and some where he is. I also don't think it is absolutely necessary to make him king (I'm not big on destiny, it's his birthright, etc). I pick whatever ending I think fits my character, and not all of them are the same.

You're not the only one talking about whether or not to leave him unhardened, so don't take it personally. We all have our different perspectives. I just see this as more a black and white thing. Because of how I see it, I couldn't care about Alistair and leave him unhardened. And if my character hated him, I'd probably pick that response just to shut him up. So it becomes rather moot to me.cmessaz wrote...

Telling Leliana to stop hiding from what she just admitted she was is a helpful advice in my books.

But, you know what "hardening" does to him. What if you didn't? Would you PC ever say that line to him, not knowing what the ultimate outcome would be?

I had to create a mod too.....it was very time consuming. (creating mods for xbox is secret srsbsns.)

I think we've been over this pretty thoroughly- what that line says is not what he hears, whether because of bad writing or editing or whatever. As you can tell in the post-talk, he hears "I need to speak up for myself more." That is not something you would tell a friend who has doormat tendencies? So I don't get hung up on the fact that I don't like how it's worded. I don't like how other key scenes are set up either, like the DR scene.Mel_Redux wrote...

I can see Addai's point.
I don't know about you girls, but when I read the dialogue options given to my PC, I don't think they literally say the exact same words, but rather say that sentence in their own way.
I can think of ways to say a sentence with the concept of "everyone's out for himself" behind it, in a nicer, less cynical way.
The fact that the game has no stupid morality meter, means you are pretty much flexible when it comes down to dialogue options and how / what kind of tone...etc you would use when saying them.

I'm not talking about the advice, but rather how the conversation goes. I just seems like you are taking advantage of the fact that she doesn't know what to do, especially when she says she wishes she hadn't left the chantry.
But that's just how I saw it. I always harden her anyway though, because that is how my characters feel.

I'm quite proud of myself in how I captured her emotion. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into this.
