So do you guys tend to feel that Alistair can believably romance any character from any origin or are there some that don't seem to be as good a fit?

I can't do dwarf/human. I can't do human female/elf. I don't know why.

Well, it could go both ways. Just because the gamer liked the romance doesn't mean the character would be interested. A particurly traumatized CE might just have Vaughan flashbacks whenever he tried flirting and not end up getting anywhere with him, for example.

I can't think of one that wouldn't fit.  Probably city elf, if anything, because of the trauma you experience in the origin.  Though as I often say regarding Alistair-elf pairings, finding a human man with such a good heart is in itself a healing thing.

Hmm. My CE goes to Alistair, my Dalish will go with Zevran if I ever get to her. I think Zev/Dalish is a good pair.

To answer the original question. It really depends on what kind of story you want. I think the HFN has the happiest possible ending, if she thinks it's wise to make Alistair king. On the otherhand, even when hardened, the romance won't end on such a high note with an elf, mage or dwarf. 
But Alsitair doesn't need to be king and they can always live happily ever after.
That of course requires that you obey Morrigan.

In otherwords, all of them are a good fit, as all of them are equally boring and don't come close to the complexity of the Morrigan romance.

Yep, just like that. I'm okay with a Dalish adapting their duty as a Warden (Lenya will do so also, but it is a longer, complicated process for her) ...but being one who's so good natured to everyone that the sun is shining out of her as$? This is why I'm making Lyra very leary of anyone outside Alistair, Morrigan and Dog. She'll probably kill Zev, and not recruit Leliana. She'll take Sten, because she knows the Qunari have been called "barbarians of the north" but her own people are judged that way, so it doesn't bother her, nor does it bother her that he killed a family of humans. Not sure about Wynne, and well she may end up with Shayle but i doubt it.

*nod* I can see that happening. I think this is part of the appeal of being a Dalish Warden, you don't have to be sunshine, bunnies and rainbow to everyone and even have a background for it.

(speaking mostly about my FF here, because many things obviously haven't happened in the game )

Lenya can't stand Leliana for her life, but has dragged her along because Alistair didn't stop nagging about that she could be useful and all that. (The  look of him is already a feared weapon xD) Looking at my drafts, her dislike won't change for a loooong time due to Leliana's pious chantry rambling/the fit she will give about elves in Orlais. 

She is pretty much cool with Sten, doesn't care much either for the family he'd killed...it's more important to her that he regret it. Zev...well he is one complicated topic but I can saythat eventually he will end up being what Tamlen had been to her -- a best friend/brother. Shale will be her another snark buddy and Morrigan is made for being her BFF. Wynne, well considering the fact that she saved Lenya in Ostagar (healed her high fever, was every time nice to her) she will pretty much be overjoyed to see her again. Until the motherly/duty nagging starts, that is.

With Lenya is much about the first impression she gets from someone. If she doesn't like one then, it's hard to get on her good side (though not impossible). It's her sturdy, proud head that gets mostly in the way and makes it almost impossible to confess she had made a mistake. Complicated woman, she is. Well given to her first impression attitude, you can imagine that she doesn't have a high opinion on Ohgren because of that.

So generally speaking I can say that it is impossible for me to play a Dalish in a happy sunshine way. Will probably the same with Riana, my DCF.

I think it all depends on the backstory, and even then the unexpected could happen. My only CEF is with Zev, but she was one of my non rp playthroughs so there was no other reason except...well I hadn't romanced Zev. The only character of mine I can't see working out with Alistair is a blood mage. But race/origin...doesn't matter. Some would just take longer.

Yes. Every character is an individual affected by their past in a different way depending on how the player RPs it. So it is highly plausible that any origin could fall for him, as it is with any other LI.

My Dalish elves tend to look down their noses a bit at Zevran, and the feeling seems to be mutual when he talks about having tried to live with the Dalish.  It's sort of a country cousin/city cousin dynamic.  However, he does have nice things to say in the Dalish camp, and his fondness for his mother is plain.  He gives a really heartfelt plea for the Dalish if you propose to kill them.  Of course, no Dalish PC would be likely to hear it.

My Dalish sides with Zathrien and kills the wolves. IDK I think Dalish/Alistair is sort of out for me.

Depending on how you play it, a blood mage could work, too.  I think Alistair could be convinced that if it used against the darkspawn, it's legit.  All you'd have to do is say "Duncan told me Grey Wardens sometimes use it."  That would probably do the trick.    Alistair seems to throw out his templarisms automatically, but when you get a chance to challenge him on them, he will back down.  For example, when he rants about Morrigan being a maleficar, you can ask him if that is Alistair or the templar talking, and he admits you're right in calling him on it.

I like Alistair/elf, but my Dalish just wouldn't go well with Alistair. And I only intend to play through as a Dalish one time, so yeah.

Strangely I've planned to let my CEF Aeris to go after Zevran's pant's but after one night she doesn't seem to be interested anymore, so she ended it. Her interest was more and more shifting to a certain templar. Dunno, it felt despite her background more natural...and soon that little elf girl was head over heels for him *sigh* I hadn't planned it, though.

Although I have to say that I'd have a hard time to justify a Brosca/Alistair pairing. Zev/Brosca feels more natural in this case. Blood mage is also a no-go.

I HATE that you get stuck with Oghren. I wouldn't accept him on most of my characters because I just can't stand him.

Lyra is going to be the first that kills Zev. Simply bacause, just before she was dragged from her clan she found out how her parents died, and the comparison of the situation just leaves no room for logic with her after everything that's just happened.  Humans and city elves killed her father, and she is not going down that way. Not now.

I can have her instantly feeling safe with Alistair, simply because when she woke up at flemeth's she fully expected to be alone, but he was there, her first nightmare, he wasted no time offering comfort. And with Morrigan...well her and Flemeth saved her life.

Hmm. I don't think of my Dalish as too human accepting. I just RP different than everyone else. No surprise there! I don't see any elf being mistress TBH. My CE ran off to build the wardens with him. Well before I tainted her with the US ending to test TMP's mod.

I have never heard that, when does it come up? My blood mage definitely won't work with him. Her past in the Alienage, plus the racist treatment by humans at the tower, on top of the spec is just too much to overcome. She sees blood magic as a very useful power, in the right hands...her hands.
