My elf mage Sula was trying to break up with him during that discussion, so it sounded dismissive. She had just found out about his identity late in the game (he wasn't in the party traveling to Redcliffe) and heard that Eamon was going to try to make him king, so the fact that she was an elf and a mage was *very* significant. When he just brushes it off like that, I was wishing for a dialogue option to tell him he was being naive.
Well, being a mage isn't a big issue at least for a warden, since you're free of the circle permanently. Plus, if you try to zap him he can stop ya. Man that would suck...imagine.

As far as being a templar, at least he can protect you if a Rylock ever comes calling. I think I'll make that part of Idun's story at some point. She fully expects the templars to come after her someday, Grey Warden or not.
