You expect to read through over 1600 pages?

There's a thread on the front page of this subforum called "Help men everywhere understand the female
obsession with Dragon Age's Alistair"
that should help. A lot easier than jumping into the Alistair fan thread and insulting him, and us, off the bat.

To be fair, I wouldn't point anyone to that threat. Last I saw it had degenerated like most Morrigan ones do.

He's sexy, has emotions, and is just sweet, even after sex. Plus he's a virgin, which I find strangely hawt.

Should i look to one or a couple people to understand everyone else?

So you come in and say disparaging things about us and our favorite character, and expect to be taken seriously?  :P  Good plan, good plan.

ETA: Alas, the new guy doesn't know the rules, so this page is much too Alistair-less already.  Picture, picture!

Ah, well, I generally try to avoid any thread that involves Alistair or Loghain because I'm sick of the same arguments rehashed infinitely. I am sure at one point the topic was addressed, though >.>

You cannot actually think that we encompass the people who like Alistair, because that's just...no, I won't say the word. DA sold over a million copies. Only a very small percent of that million even visit this forum. We are not the only ones who like Alistair and we cannot speak for other people who do like him.

If you intend to troll, come up with a better reason than "A 10+ page thread didn't satisfy my curiosity" especially since most of us posted there.

I remember the days that trolls use to be funny:( I miss those days.

Grim profile shot. He looks so determined. Brianna approves.

I think everyone here is just tired of having to justify it. I don't understand why people like Leliana but I don't go into her thread and act like a butt head.

Wait wait. Are you saying that we have Morrigan hate threads on this forum? But, but why? I can understand Alistair because some men expect him to be a totally confident, macho man who should have taken over the game as soon as we woke up in Flemeth's Hut but Morrigan? I don't even.

Well lets see.Alistair is a poor tank imo.
Alistair seems to lay most of the responsibility on you.
Alistair seems to have a hard to time being serious in a serious situation.
I am not *much* of a fan of the characters in DAO, but i see a ton of negatives.

Repeating my post from the other thread about reasons to love Alistair.

LadyDamodred wrote...

Oh, dear.  *quietly covers her sig to prevent embarrassment*

Before I say anything, let me acknowledge that, yes, I am an unabashed fangirl.  I very rarely fangirl over things, and when I started playing DA, this hit me out of the blue.  Let me explain why I love him so much, and others are free to agree or disagree as they wish.

As a player, I find Alistair pretty awesome because he works so well from a roleplaying perspective.  As errant_knight said, you can take Alistair and sort of mold him in the direction you want.  I will clarify this by saying I do not think of it controlling him or bossing him around.  I consider it more that in your PC's travels with him, he comes into his own for who and what he is supposed to be, regardless of what exactly that is.  He can be many things.  He's a great compliment/foil to a wide range of characters, and I appreciate that immensely.  *tips hat and bows to Mr. Gaider*

As for when I'm playing my characters, there are a number of things that are appealing about him.  He's funny, snarky, charming and witty.  Whether I'm playing as a lover or friend, he is appealing on all of those levels.  In a relationship with him, he's sweet, awkward and, if you let him take the lead, willing to go after what he wants.  I like that aspect of his personality: that he's fairly laid-back, until he finds something he really wants, and then he's willing to take risks on it.  I know other LIs so that as well, but none of them just kiss my PC without waiting for an okay.

I also love the fact that, like all the LI's, he is flawed.  Perfect people are not interesting, and my two favorite characters (Alistair and Zevran) are simultaneously the most awesome and most flawed.  It's great as a player to see that, and it keeps me engaged throughout mulitple play throughs.

That being said, Alistair can also be incredibly infuriating, and I think at some point everyone has thrown up their hands and yelled at their screens "Goddamnit, Alistair!"  And for some reason, Alistair fangirls love him even more for that.  Wander over the gush thread and observe the disturbing high amount of love given to Angry Alistair.  We are bad, bad people, and enjoy tormenting him because he is so hot when he is angry.

Oh, yes.  And there's that.  Alistair is hot.  *dashes off to DA, strips Alistair, throws the Thane Helmet on him and goes off in search of darkspawn to kill*

If he's a poor tank then that is your fault for not setting him up correctly.
And again we are tired of defending it. This has been discussed before. If you REALLY want to know go back and read.

lol Because I need to get my Masters of Science!  I'm getting rid of some of the sensory organs they use to mate and then seeing how well they mate without them.  I know, I have a weird job.  :P  They're giving me migraines today though, so the worms might get off.

 Three negatives is a lot of negatives, it's true. Especially since one of them is wrong. You probably specced him wrong, because Alistair is the best damn tank in the game (excepting if you make a tank).

But two negatives is a lot, you are right. Why can't characters be Mary Sues, like any good character should be? We'll have to write a note to Gaider saying he sucks because he doesn't make characters with no flaws.

Well, they needed some manly male character to be romanced. And Sten is way too awesome, to be romanced that easily. So we have Alistair for that...

Also: why can't female dwarfs romance Oghren? I was surprised that it's impossible. And dwarf romancing Alistair.. About as gross as it gets...

If he's a poor tank, that lies squarely on you. Every warrior has access to the exact same skill set. So whether Alistair is your tank or you mod Morrigan to be a warrior and tank... it's not the character's fault you didn't spec them correctly.

LMAO omg, too funny. He's only a poor tank if you don't set his tactics and build him right. Can't blame the character for operator error! Sorry can't read the rest, too busy laugh....:o

Oh wait, editing. serious in a serious situation. Ok, he has a sense of humor in bad situations...thats bad? I know soldiers that do the same thing. Example. Iraq, 2005. My husband's squad is cleaning up after a suicide bomber hit a cafe. Serious blood and guts everywhere. One of them picks up a dismembered hand (they have to be photographed and documented). This is a very grim situation.  He walks over to my huband and says "wanna shake his hand?". Tasteless? yes, sick? yes. But it's a survival mechanism. That makes them omg bad? or does that make them get through a horrific situation without losing themselves in the horor?
