lol Surely says that Ron and Alistair will be buddies.  We're hoping that means they will share.  I mean....she's hoping that means they'll share.

So not many reasons then.

Alistair would be sad.

If he's a poor tank, that lies squarely on you. Every warrior has access to the exact same skill set. So whether Alistair is your tank or you mod Morrigan to be a warrior and tank... it's not the character's fault you didn't spec them correctly.

A little bird told me DA is hard.

DA is srs bsns even on easy man.

This. I don't like pretty boys, but I don't like "bad" boys either.

You like girls.

That is true too. But I like people who aren't extremes. People who are themselves rather than...I don't know, like bad boys or pretty boys. I'm not doing a good job explaining myself:blush:

But do you like butch girls or pretty girls?

Hmmm...it depends on the girl. But I prefer feminine girls. If I had to choose between the two stereotypes, I guess I'd choose pretty girls.

There is also his proposition at camp.  He comes on very strong, and if you turn him down he pouts and takes a HUGE approval hit (I think even using the gentlest "no" I could find he still took -10).  IIRC, Morrigan and Leliana lost little to no approval by comparison when turning them down for happy time.  I believe you've mentioned in that convo there's a way to even drop his approval all the way down to zero, yes?

What if your PC is just not in the mood?  Why would he hold that against you? It's almost like saying "have sex with me now or I'll think less of you... until you give me a new toy to play with or something."

I didn't see it as coming on very strong.  Perhaps this is merely a difference between people.  And I believe you can drop his approval to zero by laughing at him and the thought that you might ever like him.  Which, quite honestly, is justified in my opinion.

For Alistair, asking you to bed is a huge, huge, huge thing for him.  He is insanely nervous about the whole thing.  He loves you, is pretty sure you love him and has worked up his courage to ask you to bed.  Turning him down then is a big deal for him, because for Alistair, sex and love go hand in hand.  It really is a blow to him when you turn him down.  It might be more a blow to his self-confidence, but the game can only show it one way.  And don't you think it would affect your relationship, at least for a little while, if you lay your heart bare and get rejected, even gently?

As far as RP goes, you can simply RP that he asks you on a night when you're in the mood.  ;)

Well, I guess for me, sex/love aren't as intertwined as they would be for Alistair (yay 21st century value system!).  His reaction just seemed a bit strong to me.  I can see the limitations of the approval system being an issue there, but Morrigan and Leliana are also disappointed if you choose not to lay with them and they don't drop nearly as much approval.  I mean doesn't rejecting him there drop him out of hte "love" range?

Indeed.  I find that the biggest instance of blackmail in the game, right next to Morrigan using your PC's love for Alistair get you to agree to the DR.

The fact that he gives in so quickly always bothered me.  It seems like a pretty unfair argument to make considering everything at stake.

Axekix wrote...
Granted a lot of this depends on how you play.  If you pass the persuade checks, and go along with his thoughts in general you wouldn't ever see this side of the relationship... but it is there.  Alistair invokes and is receptive to emotional blackmail more so than any other LI I've seen.  I don't remember the Morri or Leli romance involving much guilt at all tbh.

This leads me to believe the Alistair relationship is probably the least mature of the four.  Rather than argue for what he wants with reason, he pulls at you emotionally to get compliance, and if he doesn't get it, he tries to make you feel sorry for him instead.  Do you disagree?

Edit: wtf happened to the formatting ><

I should say that I don't see those things as emotional blackmail, per se.  In the case of Connor/Isolde, he seems more angry with himself that he failed his foster father.  He is angry with you, I'm not saying he isn't, but after the fact it's not really blackmail.  He's taking out his anger and frustration on the person he thinks should be able to make things better.  I suppose it is blackmail of a sort, but different from the kind seen in the DR.  Semantics, maybe.

I was using emotional blackmail to refer to his handling of the argument itself.  Instead of talking rationally about what happened, or even simply expressing remorse, he tries to overwhelm you with guilt, even if you're romantically involved with him, because things didn't go as he wished.

I think it's also important to keep in mind that Alistair, of all the LIs, is very young.  He's been very sheltered and is having a whole host of illusions shattered.  He is probably the least mature of all the companions to begin with, and I don't mean it in a bad way.  He grows up throughout the game, matures.  He also shows a lot of maturity in talking down Jory in the Wilds, the revered mother in lothering if you threaten her, sucking it up when Eamon wants to make him king, being understanding of the nightmares and the horrors inflicted on people, etc...

I may have rambled a bit.  Does this answer your question?

Hehe well my OP rambled quite a bit as well, so it's only natural.  I do like hearing a different perspective.  Yes Alistair is very young an inexperienced.  I'm curious though, does the immature nature of his romance make you like it more or less from a story telling PoV?

Why do you like Alistair? "Drools"

Person gives a good reason.

But that wasn't a good enough reason. "Drools"

Person calls the troll a moron and trys to ignore him/her.

I  want a good reason. Explain to me why you like Alistair?

The same repeats, untill he/she drives everyone around the bend.

I hate big noses. They're just so distracting...That's one of the things I like about Gorim: he has a really small nose for a male dwarf. Observe:

How?  I lost 4 when I tried it.

Still, assuming that's a worst case scenario it doesn't compare to the -90 that Alistair can lose there.

I think the reason I like big noses is because mine isn't that big. It's kind of long, but it's not really big. I don't like my nose, so I like bigger noses.

lol It's because trolls are dumb, and fail at logic.  They're not capable of comprehending posts from anyone else, so they just keep asking.  Oh, that reminds me that I had a possible idea for another PS3 screen shot.  Since Mel isn't around for her Xbox screenshot expertise!

well ummm I would imagine that would happen only if you laugh in his face after he tells you he loves you.  I think Morrigan being refused in the nastiest way would cause a bigger drop than the choice I made since i chose one of the more polite ones.  I have refused Alistair too to see what happened and I got a 10 point drop not a 90 point one? Wtf did you say to him?

I think the reason you don't lose a lot of approval if you turn down Morrigan first offer is because she isn't in love with you and it's just a fling. Alistair is in love with you and laying his feelings out to you.

lol oh okay.  Yea she probably laughed at him. I rmeember in that Swooping kiss conversation when I accidentally clicked him and had no intention of saving it cause I wanted to have that later, I took the "you are always joking" answer. I'm telling you his response was like I had just kicked him in the family jewels.  I lost every single point of approval with that one and I felt like the biggest PMS'ing b*tch in existence.

Naturally I reloaded after my curiosity was satisfied.

I never play the love card with him, thought I have tried all the different lines just to see.  To be fair, my PC made up her mind as soon as Morrigan offered a way out.  though she did ask lots of questions, there was no doubt in her mind what she was going to say.  It's relative.

See, here's where we differ.  I don't see his romance as being immature in nature, though I can see where some people might.  For him, like all the LIs, the romance means something more to him than just sex.  He's the most up front about it, though.  It's more a naivete in his romance than an immaturity.  He believes in love and romance and happily ever afters.  It's what he wants, even if life doesn't allow him that option.  and it makes me like it more, personally, because I'm like that, too.
