They actually moved out of California because we tried to pass gay marriage, and they wanted to get away from the evil conspiracy to normalize deviant sexual behavior, and drugs. They about died when I moved to West Hollywood (Boys Town). I tried to explain it's one of the safest places for a woman to live in LA, but they were horrified by the (gasp!) men holding hands in the street! At least it stops them from wanting to visit too often.

My parents were always conservative but when I went to college they got really fundamentalist and my freewheeling, gay rights marching self did not sit well with them at all. So much so that they withdrew all financial support in the hopes that I'd come to my senses and run back to them.

Now, ten years later, they're hosting True Blood Season Permiere parties with my sister's gay roommates and they go out to the local gay hangout at least once a month.

Tragically, I take everything personally. Like yesterday afternoon soignee said that she was going to go eat cake and then review my chapter and it's been over a day and she's been online today and I haven't heard anything. Logically, I know she's probably just busy/forgot but I'm also slightly paranoid she hated it and doesn't want to come out and say it.

To make it worse, it was an emotional chapter and those have never been my strong suit so I really need the feedback...

This is how I am, unfortunately. I'm kind of neurotic about stuff like that, but I tend to play it off as a joke rather than getting worked up about it. Unless it REALLY offends me.

It was mostly a joke.
The liberal conservative divide doesn't really work with us.

But on certain issues, I am more liberal than my parents. In others, I am more conservative. 
Depends really.  

But in general and when I want to avoid having to explain my position with details, I just say I am a liberal.

But it's not right now. This thread is really quick to decide that certain topics when they come up are taboo because they 'might' cause controversy.

And we're not even talking about politics but more...around it, I guess you could say.
