I am with you on this one. I don't like the idea of half dwarves either.

I tried to explain my dislike of elves and other races reproducing as it helps destroy their race to my mother and she called me a racist...

She decided that this was the same as if I disapproved of different ethnicites getting together IRL as the child would have darker skin than the lighter-skinned parent. I think that comparison fails, really, but...

Yea it's not the same. As far as I know, all human ethnicities are part of the same species.

I wouldn't cry a river over it, but it's a shame to lose their unique, if mostly useless and unimpressive, culture. 

Not to mention that if two different ethnicities had a child, that child would be a mix of the parents, instead of looking exactly like one. It is a real threat for the elves to be driven extict from mating with humans, given the fact that their children would be human.

This got me wondering what the kid of an half-dwarf and human/dwarf would be like.

Man, tough choice. I just realize how much I hate making Anora queen. Yet I didn't harden Alistair, so making him king would just be cruel. i planned to do the GW ending, but the thought of playing through awakening without that cameo just stinks. too bad the companions in awakening mod has no voices:(

PC is one elf out of scores of other elves and she won't be reproducing anyway with teh GW taint So no my characters don't give a flying rats ass about some genetic purity bullsh*t.  My elf is going to be with who she loves.  End of story.

Because the PC is one elf out of scores of elves.  its not like all the elves are suddenly hooking up with humans.  Most are still keeping to themselves. Soris is the only one I recall (who isn't the PC) who actually finds a human woman (he wants to be with and loves) and has a half dozen rug rats with.
So yea i see it as Genetic purity Bullsh*t to be all up in arms over a couple of elves who happen to fancy round ears instead of pointed.  They are the exeption not the rule.

I'm pretty sure that's what the Dalish do (and most alienage elves) aside from a few exceptions anyway.

I didn't say that 'your PC is destroying the elven race.'
Rather, if your PC and Soris and Fiona and who knows how many other elves like 'fancy round ears instead of pointed' then any children they may have will be human. Thus the elves that can and will reproduce will not all have elven children and the next generation of elves willb be smaller than it would have otherwise and if the same thing happens in the next generation?

Say 95% of elves that reproduce in a generation do so with an elf and the other 5% do so with humans. That isn't very many and there probably wouldn't be a noticeable difference. But say that out of that generation of 95% elves that 95% of those that will reproduce do so with elves and the other 5% do so with humans. It's not immediate and it certainly won't be a problem that starts to become serious in the PC's lifetime but soonre or later the elves will die out because of it. They already have to mail-order brides/grooms from other Alienages in order to have enough genetic diversity to breed with as it is.

Your PC clearly doesn't care and is all 'Whatever, I love who I love and no one is telling me I can't be with him' and I would imagine that it is the same with Soris and everyone else who does it. They will not feel that they are the ones destroying the elven race and in a way, they are correct. If it was just one elf who did it then it really wouldn't matter but if you add up all of them that will over the generations then even if it takes centuries or even millenia the elves will **** themselves into extinction.

Given what the epilogue says about the harassment Soris faces (but it's love so he's willing to deal with it) chances are that they just move.

I don't care if elves were outbred anyways. Their culture and history can still be carried despite being more buff, having non-pointy ears and a little more tall. Or short as things may vary.

Reproduction wise? Yes, I think they should.

Let each of these groups evolve on their own. That's genetically speaking. Culurally and all that, they ought to be open and welcoming of other cultures, all while trying to preserve and strengthen their own.

I would tend to agree but that will never go well with those in love with another race who don't care about the bigger picture as long as they can be happy.

Our PCs are Grey Wardens and hence taken out of the reproduction pool anyway, by the taint.  (Edit:  Although my <_< referred to KoP's "mostly useless and unimpressive culture" comment.)
