Hmm...I think I found a way to harden Alistair with my own timeline. Apparently it can be done via console. Since I'd already done Goldanna ages ago, before cmessaz's fix to add more lines. I really thought non king alistair shouldn't be hardened, but...maybe it' just me, but the whole relationship talk kinda sucks when he isn't. I danged near just ended it when I heard that. It' like you gave yourself to him, you supported him, you used your influence to not make hi king because thats what he wanted, and yet you get the whole commitmentphobic response. Kinda made me feel like he was saying "hey sex is great and all, but I can't tell you that I'll hold on to you"

Alistair seems to be under the impression that he's still a candidate for King in that conversation.

Not with Cmessaz's mod installed. She fixed that thank GOD, but he's still , if unhardened, unwilling to commit to your relationship being as (not more) important than honor/duty. He essentially acts like there can't be any more than there is to it.

So in other words...unhardened Alistair will never get married unless someone (like the PC or Eamon) forces him to at the Landsmeet or for heir purposes.

I suspect he'd do it after the Blight, just not before it's over.  He's afraid that being in love will someone interfere wtih ending the Blight, right?  In a Wynne-esque manner, somehow, maybe.

After the Blight, when it's just you two and you go back to being just Grey Wardens?  I think Alistair is too much of a romantic and a family hopeful to not at least want to propose.  Then again, he might hesistate about the inability to have kids thing, most likely because he'd be afraid of the Warden wanting children he couldn't provide, but maybe even because he wants kids and can't have them with her...

I have no idea what he'd do after the archdemon dies besides go to highever.  Heirs are Anora's problem.

Well he'd need to get married (at Eamon's urging no doubt) if he were solo King and unhardened so I was just covering all the possibilities. If duty stops him from committing he's going to have a hard time finding someone who would marry him or even agree to get married in the first place.

And therein lies my real complaint. You don't get to ASK that question AFTER the arch demon dies. The post game camp is set BEFORE. So You can't ever ask it, without the blight being an issue. You should have been able to ask AFTER the coronation if you chose. So if he's unhardened you get the male version of the Wynne speech.

I sent him a PM asking for permission. It's OK if he says no since the vanilla kisses will work fine. It would just be awesome to see the kiss go from this:

You do get to ask him what he'll be doing and he'll say something about going wherever you go, as long as you'll have him (hardened or unhardened). That's pretty commitilicious.

To those interested, Ali means noble / elevated in Arabic and it is a boy's name (Trivia: the first person to be called that is my ancestor). And yea I dislike that nickname because I don't see how a Fereldan is going to have a name like that.
@ Mel. Nice haircut.

I call Alistair "Ali" here on the thread, but in my head it is not pronounced as in Arabic, rather like "alley."  I doubt my characters would call him that for reals.  It's just a cute little abbreviation here.

Can you actually romance Loghain? Am I crazy? How do you get to kiss him?

It's not exactly that he won't...he won't SAY he wants to think of the future. If he's hardened you say "we care about it thats all that matters" and he says he agrees and won't do anything to jeopardize that. If not hardened you get -10 approval and a lecture about honor and duty. So actually, unhardened solo ruler would commit to do the heir thing because it's his duty, and thus likely would NOT have trouble getting a wife. Beides, his marriage would likely be arranged anyhow in that case.

Yeah...things happening to the cats is what worries me.  Heh, someone tried to break into my house on the day that I failed the first of my written preliminary exams to be a doctoral candidate (WORST DAY EVER!!) and I got locked out until past midnight.  Biggest worry was that whoever it was had gotten in and taken/released the cats, cause there isn't really anything else removable of value in my house except them.  PS3 and computer can be replaced, and everything else is too heavy or junk!

I see. I've only left him unhardened my first game and that was a Queen Cousland and way back in December.

True, but it's not quite the same. The only way I think I can manage to finish this is to harden via console, or skip that conversation entirely, and as you said, ask about his plans at the end.

i have the end worked out, taking Gwaren, giving us both something we never had...a HOME of our own. Then when I get to Awakening, I have the ability to rp he's taking care of a much neglected Teyrnir while she's off playing commander. IF I do awakening.

I've heard of a mod where you can romance Loghain, but my screenshot wasn't from that. It's from Charsen's Gatekisses -- no romance required. Just need Loghain in your party and when people are saying farewell to you at the gates, you have the option to kiss Loghain or not. It's just there. I also have Loghain making out with my male Brosca, but I will spare people that horror, lol.

This is the bind I'm in.  I am so tempted to do a Warden ending with Idun, but I can't not harden him, and if he's hardened I can't not make him king.  Posted Image

Hehe well freeing the circle is pretty useless really. Asking that the GW are not forgotten is ok, but two of us are still alive, and I think WE will do that just fine thank you very much.

He still thanks you for not making him king if he's hardened (well, he's supposed to). Just don't, uh, ask if he's ok with Anora being Queen.

RP-wise, I would think Alistair could live with Anora being queen as long as the Blight was defeated - one of the main reasons he gives you for his being King is that Anora betrayed you once before and could easily do it again and not give you the armies, right? (That's if she betrayed you, of course).  As long as Loghain's dead, I think Alistair will deal with it, and I think he does okay with not being king - he still doesn't really want to be king, after all, he's just willing to make the sacrifice and find happiness and good in it.

I think the harder is not letting him be king, when I know he'll be a good one and I hate Anora...

So I really like the new "First Knight" scene, except for one teeny, tiny, horrifying thing:

AHHH!

I've already mentioned my fear of his ungloved thumb, this is like that X10,000.

I was so disturbed by the hand, I somehow missed the melding.

XD

Lya and Alistair are close.  Really, really, really close.

How did THAT happen??...lol I definitely didn't get that with my mage...lol

It's the particular mesh I have.  I will be fixing it when this scene comes up next time in my play through,

Oh My GOD..
Really sorry !!! I am going to have to fix that. LOL I hadn't seen that in mine or others.
