It could be the screenshots just don't show it very well, but that custom texture doesn't remove colour variation from the iris. The pattern is more subtle though (and closer to what regular eye is like) so i can see how a switch like that could feel weird.LadyDamodred wrote...
See, maybe it's just me, but those look awful to me. Like the fake plastic baby doll eyes. It might also be b/c my own eyes, when you can actually differeniate the color from black, have a lot of the striations(don't even know if that's the right word). Most of my family has a lot of those lines in the eyes, so it looks normal to me. Removing them and going with a more "matte" look seems very odd. :x

I would like to point out that Gorim was the first with the hair AND with the epic lean. This is the man we should be fighting over!

He's so awesome he makes me overlook the fact that he's a redhead.

Well, just thinking out loud, these seem to make the eyes lighter, no? So it seems more translucent, which to me looks more uniform rather than less. But maybe I would have to try it out in-game.tmp7704 wrote...

Grabbed these in Orzammar. It of course didn't effect Morrigan or Sten because they use different textures from the default. But I do like this effect. Notice in the outer corners of the whites, you can see pink too. These are all with the default colors of the npc's involved. It also varies depending on the lighting your in, and I love that, how one side looks darker in one spot, then you move and that shifts.

I love those pictures, the iris really is so beautiful.
I think it probably has a lot to do with your monitor & settings.
The vanilla texture makes you feel like you're seeing the up close and personal cracked-iris look.
The new texture is closer to what a real eye would be (crackled when you're close), but looks smoother from far away, especially with different monitors.
I loved the new look on my monitor at home, but my one here at work just doesn't show the detail enough and it looks really solid until I increase the picture to fill the screen.
But since I only play on the monitor at home.... I want it!

See, the problem is that on a screen, "subtle" doesn't always carry over. Like, I used to try to give my characters almost no makeup, but they ended up looking like ghouls, so I realized you have to have some makeup just to look natural. Kind of like stage makeup. So I'm wondering if the subtler effects end up working in the reverse.tmp7704 wrote...

I just replayed the First Night scene, too. I just wanted to saty that it IS perfect. I like when it starts, how she is waiting for him in anticipation, with her back turned to him. If she is inexperienced, you can read this as shy/nervous anticipation. If she is experienced, then you can read it as - yes, we're finaly going to do this. I imagine Alistair was in the backround lighting candles or something cheezily romantic - then moving in.
There is also a look he gives her while they are in the middle of it, which is kind of a concerned look that she is ok - also good if she is inexpeienced. Likewise, if she is exp - you can look at that as him trying to get a read from her if he is doing it right.

Yup it can definitely depend a lot on what sort of monitor you have, what resolution you're running etc. There's certainly some good reasons why the default eye textures would be stronger -- they also have to work on the consoles after all.Addai67 wrote...

I think I agree with you. Like I was saying earlier with eye size. What would be correct in RL looks odd in the game. From a distance, the textures look fine since you wouldn't be able to see all that detail anyway. But when you get in close to the eye is when it loses it for me.
Oh wells! I thinm we are forgetting the most important thing.
Y, helo thar!

Awesome link! I would give anything to be able to have eyes like the first pic (which are almost exactly what mine look light, only with a wider band of green). I think I read a post by you saying that there are separate color channels but you can't really do anything with them? Is that right?
