I've played Suikoden II a lot.  I had a Viktor/Flik fascination for awhile.

If I recall the part of the game correctly Luca is alone in the forest when it happens.  He's looking at something (fireflies if memory serves right) and he makes a comment along the lines of "useless" there's much deeper emotion in the scene though.  To me it seemed like there was a part of him that regretted what he had done/become but it was too late to turn back.  He was already as much the master as the prisoner of the Beast Rune. 

Beyond that there's a decent amount of simularity between the characters.  Both Luca and Loghain watch helplessly as their mothers were raped by the enemy.  Incidentally both became obessed with utterly destorying that enemy.  They were both unparreled warriors using nothing but their sword and wits to win battle upon battle.

True, his crazy side seems to have tamed down at that point. I'm not sure I agree with the fact that he regretted what he did--it's a little hard to believe knowing what he did all throughout the game--but if that was really the case then Luca's regret was a whole lot more subtle than Loghain's.

But the other points you mentioned... yeah, I can see what you mean now. Although I'd fit Luca into the blind-crazy-powerful category, Loghain into I-still-know-what-I'm-doing-most-times-powerful. xD

Luca's regret was definitely far more subtle than Loghains. I'm not sure why but I've always found them somewhat similar. They both did some pretty atrocious things, especially near the end of both of their lives. Selling elves to the Tevinter mages really wasn't that far off from what Luca did at Muse. Caladrius was willing and eager to sacrifice the whole room of elves to imbue the Warden with power in return for his life. It isn't too far off to assume that those elves would be going to other like-minded Tevinter mages to be used as sacrifices or sold into the worst kind of slavery.

I kind of miss Suikoden, I might play through II again after I finish this Origins/Awakening campaign. I always thought the character in Suikoden had a lot of personality.

Naw, my PCs need to hear it, that Alistair's grief is not only Duncan's loss but his survivor's guilt as well.  (Edit:  While simultaneously telling you that you're too hard on yourself!)

But Morrigan would gladly kick the Guardian for you, I bet.

YES! Starting at Flemeth's hut. And...we should be able to hug him when he needs it, and tell him WE need a hug too. I mean there are some really good HUG worthy moments in this game. Flemeth's hut, after goldanna (maybe cued by the line "I care about you when you don't harden him), and which of us couldn't use a hug from our love interest after meeting the ghost from our past during the ashes? Or as a city lf, after hearing about the wedding that wasn't?  One of those hugs where he completely envelopes you and buries his face in your neck too...lol

Mmmm, I hear ya. My pc really just wanted to tell Alistair that everything would *not* be better if he had died in Duncan's place. And yeah, it's sad that he's like 'it's not your fault/don't be so hard on yourself' and then see him say that. I'm glad I do this before going to Goldana's. Just one mroe reason for my pc to tell Alistair to watch out for himself more.



Now, I are gonna go shower, try to get nakie Alistair killing an ogre shot, and work on the next chapter in my fic. *will continue to check in*

Hopefully he is at least listening when your Gauntlet spirit tells you that it's time to move on and release your guilt.  That is, if you answer your own Guardian question with a "yes, I should have..."

I would be up for a Give the PC A Hug mod, too.  It's hard enough for my DEF to see Tamlen in the Gauntlet (nothing like what is coming up, though!!), but my HNF was reduced to a pile of gelatinous goo at seeing her father's shadow.

I've never done a female PC, so I obviously havent romanced him. Bromance wise his dialogue doesnt change, and from what I've heard from the ladies, the only thing that changes is that he will marry you I think?

Other than that, all that really changes about him is his attitude towards being king I think, and doing a three-some with Isabella.

Ah, there's no reason to rush to harden him then. I know some people said that he'll fight harder to keep you if he's hardened. That must be in regards to the "Where do you see this going?" conversation. I was going to wait to start a romance with him until he was hardened but it seems pointless if that's the case.

My PC (HNF) was very practical and said 'They made me leave.'  And the the Guardian said it was good that I didn't let the past hold me back.. Hopefully Alistair was listening when she said that.

I like waiting til after the Landsmeet with that one, too.  Though it makes slightly less sense if you're engaged.  It's a much, much better line if you choose the mistress ending.
