Yeah, and when you hear stories about people torturing and killing animals, it is usually men. *shrug*

Owned.

And I would love to see someone accusing Vito Corleone of not being manly enough

It has nothing to do with manliness. But it is a genus-based occupation.

You'd be breaking new ground.

True, although men are responsible for ~80-90% of all reported violent crimes, so that makes sense.  Testosterone is one hell of a hormone!

out of curiousity, do to think the ethics of eating animals is different to wearing them? What's the difference between fur and leather, do you wear one and not the other?

...That sounded like an exam question, and I now want steak.

If you are going to fur them you might as well eat them and the reverse.

Wearing fur is a luxury (unless we are in an old timey situation like cavemen).  Eating is a necessity.  And yes, you could be a vegetarian, but humans are omnivorous for a reason.

I don't wear fur or leather, but I have less of a problem with leather. I guess it's because I see leather as more practical (even though it smells disgusting) and fur is really a luxury item that doesn't serve any real purpose other than to look "good". I dunno, I think there are excellent alternatives to both in modern times, but you're not gonna see me throwing paint at anyone. If you wanna waste your money on fur, that's your problem.

I think people also have less of a problem with leather because we eat cow meat. Fox or minx or whatever meat? Not as much.

I also would like a steak.

Leather used to make shoes, bags, etc is different, the animals are bred specifically for that. The meat is a by product that gets sent to dog/cat food factories, usually, and not human consumption.  The leather from eatin' cows is usually rubbish.

Pretty much this.

Eating animals is just a part of nature.  Predator/prey.  Wearing them for vanity isn't.

allegedly, so is ostrich. I have a friend who tells me bear meat is the tastiest thing ever, also.

But they're not part of a mainstream eating habit of human culture. The point I was that justifying leather as a product to wear because you can eat steak is a little skeevy due to how it's processed and made in factories.

That is how it ought to work though.

But I don't see how breeding for tenderer meat is so much better than breeding for better leather. You could survive without meat no problem.

The human nature thing argument is bull. We are also hunter gatherers, thus gathering leather is in our nature. And raping is also in our nature. And killing people. And stealing.

But I'm probably going to be proven wrong by people who actually have researched the subject further.

People have many views on what should be done and how a person should act.And most people in my opinion lack the self control to always act in the way they think is right.so i believe human nature plays a big part in everything we do.

Come on research in genetics! It will save us!Of course i am sure many people have different opinions on what will help humanity become much better.I am sure i can be wrong.

I am now to lazy to come up with anything and I don't think anyone is interested in thr PDF documents I have on the fur/leather industry to reiterate statements. I get through work. Anyway! These are good points Mr. Uhl.

Personally fur can freak me out a little, I don't thinking my coat is going to suddenly come alive or something. (See previous story about lumpy tabby trying to murder me in my sleep....)

I just think fur/leather is morally grey, and vegetarians who are out of moral reasons but wear leather shoes make me lulz.

*eta* No animals were harmed in the making of this dwarf porn.
