You managed to have two characters still up with no mage in the party? You must have had quite a strategy. What did you use? What difficulty did you play on?Lady Jess wrote...
I did the Anora betrayal with dog and it was indeed Hilarious. Not to mention every time Salroka snarled Eamon looked down at him thoughtfully before looking back to Anora. Then I had oghren and the dog come rescue us just to see how that went, it was pretty funny letting dog do the talking. Until the female guard then you're scrwed...lol
But I went back, and decided for ONCE by god I was going to fight Cauthrien. With no healer. Me, Alistair, Salroka, and Oghren. By the end, I was out of firebombs, Alistair and Oghren were down while I was picking off mages and archers. dog was tanking Cauthrien when I killed the last archer and I got to take the last several hits...

How much characterization can you possibly expect from a 2K story? And the point is that if Morrigan starts out at neutral and loses, say, five approval points every time you waste time and be nice (note: this is used synonymously with helping other people out not for a reward) then once you hit twenty over the course of your entire journey then game mechanics would have her hate you and leave even if you never insult her or anything. It's supposed to be a parody, kind of like how Alistair will tell you how very much he hates you and how you clearly understand nothing about what the Wardens are about and how he doesn't even know if you want to stop the Blight if he starts at neutral and you give him the book on genealogy or how Leliana will ask what is wrong with you and tell you she's embarrassed to be seen with you if you give her ugly shoes.Axekix wrote...
Not really. The point I'm making is if you're writing a character that will clash with Morrigan to the point that she leaves, simply being nice wouldn't do it (if you're concerned about accurately characterizing her).Sarah1281 wrote...
You're focusing too much on the word I used. The situation was Morrigan constantly losing approval due to the PC stopping to solve the problems of everyone they come across, not objecting to just being nice.
You'd need to be naive, extremely idealistic, and very judgmental towards her and her opinions. None of those are synonymous with nice. Basically make your character act like Alistair and she'll hate him/her in no time!

If you never talk to her at all, perhaps. If your PC is compassionate enough to stop and help every person they come across, would they not be compassionate enough to at least try to understand Morrigan as well? I would think a super "nice" warden would find plenty of ways of empathizing with her in camp.Sarah1281 wrote...

Are you talking about those April Fools pranks? Forget the word 'nice', God! That wasn't what I meant anyway. Let's go with 'PR obsessed overly helpful' Warden if that gets you to drop the not-perfect word. You can talk in camp and not gain any approval or else gain some and lose other by talking about how much you believe in love. It really doesn't matter. It's just two thousand words, it's not some brilliant character analysis!Axekix wrote...

The feast day pranks give you -100 allowing you to have Alistair hate you for the Compleat Genealogy of the Kings of Ferelden, Sten to hate you for the Butterly Sword, Leliana for Ugly Boots, Zevran for a Chastity Belt, Wynne for a Cat Lady's Hobblestick, Morrigan for the Chant of Light, and Oghren for Scented Soap. Would you find it more believable if the pair got along fine and then Morrigan freaked out and left over a not-very-well-thought-out book gift? Are you talking about those April Fools pranks? I'm not sure what you're referencing. It's supposed to be a parody, kind of like how Alistair will tell you how very much he hates you and how you clearly understand nothing about what the Wardens are about and how he doesn't even know if you want to stop the Blight if he starts at neutral and you give him the book on genealogy or how Leliana will ask what is wrong with you and tell you she's embarrassed to be seen with you if you give her ugly shoes.

"Nice" or "PR obsessed overly helpful"... it doesn't really make a difference considering the characterization is the same. Would a PR obsessed/overly helpful Warden not inquire about her past? Would that warden refuse to help her against Flemeth? The approval lost for believing in love is minor compared to what a "goody goody" can earn by simply talking to her and avoiding the Alistair-like responses.
I'm just pointing out that your reasoning for Morrigan leaving doesn't really follow her in game character. The piece's length is really irrelevant.

But it follows game mechanics. And no, I don't see how getting to know Morrigan has anything to do with worrying about one's PR.Axekix wrote...

I'm either on normal or easy. Likely easy. i've tried this fight so man times and failed. Alistair and Oghren were in the heaviest armor, so everyone kind of split evenly between them, so I could run around backstabbing and firebombing the archers. No strategy at all just rush in. My rogue is pretty hard to kill, she's duelist with high dexterity so she dodges and parries alot. The only reason Alistair and Oghren died was me forgetting to set health potion tactics, and not getting them in time.

I'm contemplating an AW as well. In the Anders thread they were talking about the mod that allows weapon talents to be available, so I was thinking about trying a 2Her. I know that would drive me to distraction if I played it as a straight warrior, but as a mage I could do it.cmessaz wrote...

Because she represents your party to everyone you meet? Because if you care about gaining approval from everyone, your own party members whom you travel with 24/7 should be very high on the list? There are plenty of reasons really.Sarah1281 wrote...
