Zevran and Leliana are really easy to shut down without looking like you kicked a puppy. When Leliana starts with the hair conversation, there's a friend line in there. At least for females. I plan to do a HNF/Gilmore run next, just to take a break from the constant Alistair/Zev choices.  When you find yourself hitting esc through half your LI's dialogue...it's time for a change...lol

So I'm going HNF/Gilmore then DCF/Zev. THEN HNF/Alistair again.

I found it difficult not to turn Zevran's romance on with my male PC, or Leliana's with any female PC who talked to her at all.  You have the hair thing but then there's Marjolaine.  She's like static cling!

Hmm maybe I should play my HNM then before my DCF. Then I can crab 2 of the few achievements I'm missing. Leliana and Morrigan.

The one time I played a guy Morrigan's romance was really easy to turn on. I stopped right after entering Lothering to get through her initial dialogue and lo and behold I got a 'Surely you do not expect love from me' after, I think, I asked her whether she loved her mother. I didn't even use any of the lines not available to female Wardens, either!

I saw so many puppy eyes...)  It was a little disappointing - he was my Second, I wanted to be his friend - and I want to play a male PC now so I can be buddies with Alistair without worrying about him taking it the wrong way.

Wasn't there a mod that convinces Alistair that your female Warden is a male Warden and so you can be friends with him?

Yes Morrigan and Alistair were talking about my HNM having kissyface with her, or whatever that banter was, in Lothering.  If I played a male PC again, it would be to re-do Morrigan's romance and try to take it more slowly.

I don't think he's bland.  He'll say things like "Friends?  I owe you everything."  Otherwise you get all the same dialogues as a female that you do with a male except for a few lockerroom responses that I doubt my femWardens would say anyway!  It's just the nicer responses to him, versus the snarky ones, tend to turn his romance on.

True, but never in my games. I just cannot do the WC ending. Or even the US.

I was gonna ask this but looks like it's just been answered, Im doing another playthrough and wanted not to romance Alistair, but i think it cold be hard not to talk to him!! I've romanced in every play through......

You could try as a male pc and see what he's like as a friend

My CEF made it through the game with Alistair in friend zone.  You have to be pretty distant from him.  I don't think I talked much to him that game.  I missed him but it had to be done. 

I've speculated before that both Leliana and Alistair are given hair-trigger romances because it's IC for them- they both really want to fall in love.  Then again, I think all of the romances are pretty easy to turn on and can be turned on accidentally without trying.

My CEF and Alistair are best buds.  She's not distant from him at all.  Just don't use any romance trigger lines.  It's not hard.

I dunno.  It seems fairly self-explanatory when you're playing.  If you're not sure, just save real quick before you talk to him.  That way, if you accidently turn the romance on, it's easy to go back and fix.

People on this thread probably could do it, but that's because we have a Ph.D in Alistair.  There are a number of responses which seem to me to be just being nice to him, but which are romance starters.  Until I started reading these forums, I thought all female PCs got the rose.

Hence why on CEF, I was so vigilant.  It was the 1st time I'd done Zevran's romance and I was afraid of not being able to resist puppy eyes.

Aww, this image is so adorable. I could definitely use a tucking in from Alistair today. I think I might pop into the game and talk about licking lampposts just to cheer myself up.

And I did the Duncan's death talk with Ron last night, and I understand why the Dalish laydeez squee over their templar. His comment about the Dalish burial practices is sweet and super well-delivered. Ron F*cking Mahariel is secure enough in his sexuality to admit that he man-swooned.
