I also had zero persuade on my character and did not talk to Anora prior to Landsmeet so I failed to persuade them to marry each other. Got the following:
Alistair: "What? This is a joke, right? Right? Why aren't you laughing?"
Anora: "It will never happen. Not even if the Maker himself appeared in this room and commanded it."
Alistair: "What she said."
Oh darn. I'm on the same boat as you (zero persuasion), except I'm still in the Alienage. Thanks for posting that, at least now I know what to expect!
...so is it possible to defend Anora as queen, leaving Alistair free to do whatever he wants? My only other playthrough was with a Human Female Noble and I had the whole "lived happily ever after" finale. Not romancing him this time around, but it still breaks my heart to send the poor guy to be king all on his own
Sarah, I can't see the comission link...

I can't remember if it was this thread of the Dwarfone that someone was mentioning the wanted to make a character appear to have a broken nose. But in my messing with the toolset today I played with the nose > bend/left or right and it does seem to work for that effect.
If Loghain dies there is no mention of killing/exiling Alistair, he just needs to renounce his claim to the throne which he does willingly. I think that you have to pass a persuade check to convince Anora to let him live if Loghain doesn't die, though.Amedyr wrote...

So I talk to Alistair, let him know that it's Flemeth's mojo that's gonna save us. I failed two persuade checks in a row and ... Alistair agrees to do it! I'm just floored when he says all right, if it'd spare me or Riordian, then he'll do it. Alistair was fighting to save me! I just want to give him a big hug. He really acted like a best friend (I was rping him as Leske 2.0 for Brosca) and this may be my favorite Alistair-as-a-friend game.
My failed lines:
(persuade check) Warden: You need to trust me.
Alistair: Trust you? I ... this is too much, I can't just ...
(persuade check) Warden: Surely sleeping with Morrigan isn't so high a price.
Alistair: High enough. You have met her before, right?
Warden: Do you really want to risk dying tomorrow?
Alistair: We don't know what will happen tomorrow. Riordan could end it. Or both of us could die before we even get close.
Alistair: But if it ... could possibly spare you, or Riordan, then all right. Against my better judgement, I'll agree to this thing.
Alistair: (groans) Where is she? Let's go and get this over with before I ... change my mind.

Yes, it's entirely possible. support Anora from the start (after the rescue when you talk to her). Then do NOT let Alistair duel Loghain at the landsmeet. Do it yourself. You'll then have the choice of who gets the throne. On any character but a human noble romancing him (I may be wrong on the romance, but better safe than sorry), he will claim the throne if he defeats Loghain.

Allow me to share some Alistair squee. I'm on dwarf+Zevran romance game. Morrigan talks me into the dark ritual. I go to Alistair's room thinking ... man, no points in persuade whatsoever ... time to start thinking about who is going to take the final blow. I have been wanting to see the funeral for the dwarf commoner and I could just "handwave" her game into Awakening, right? Yeah, probably gonna go down that way.

Awww!! did you open with "we're friends right?" that one and the "you know I love you, right?" lines seem to be insta-win with him.

I didn't talk to Anora before Landsmeet at all so you might have better luck if you arrange the marriage ahead of time. I don't remember if that's a persuade check or not if you plan it in advance. I didn't talk to her because I wanted to see if she'd turn on me (she did) and if I could win with just her turning on me, but alas, because I had no-persuade, I lost a vote when I failed to convince one of the nobles that the Blight was a threat, not Orlais. It was enough to lose.Amedyr wrote...

Yes, you can still crown Anora and let Alistair be a Grey Warden. You just have to make sure Loghain is dead if you don't want him angry with you....so is it possible to defend Anora as queen, leaving Alistair free to do whatever he wants? @Jess -- yep, opened with the "we're friends, right?" line. It was my way of saying, "Bro, I wouldn't be asking you to do this if it wasn't important so don't think I'm being a dick here -- you're my buddy."
Yeah, I like those lines for him. And his reaction as a friend shows he really craves friendship, not just love. Him and Tryna aren't there yet. She's busy being put off by the brusque "what do you need". She approaches, then says "well Fffffff you buddy" and stomps off...lol
They'll get there. Trying to take it all slow with her, Zev is only at flirtation at this point, but it makes sense that Alistair is being gruff with her, since he's not a fan of Zev. Or Shayle. Or Morrigan...lol who of course Tryna thinks are all a bunch of awesome.

Does Anora require a persuade check or does she just send you off to ask Alistair without it and he requires one? I know that if you pass that and come back to tell Anora he agreed she admits she thought he'd decline so if she doesn't turn you down but puts the ball in Alistair's court it makes it look like she's the reasonable one willing to compromise and work with you while Alistair is all 'Marry Anora? Are you crazy?'
The persuade is Alistair yes, none for Anora. And of course she wants it to look that way, she wants the throne, she's going to try and make her best impression on the person that can keep her on it.

Second, Love the new avatar lady jess and um... I might have forgotten the third point, maybe I didn't have one.
Oh I remember now, as a fellow recent de-lurker, welcome tuppence!
Um I'll add some alistair as compensation for having to read my drunken ramblings.
I will take some more interesting screenshots soon one I've finished bashing my head against my keyboard in an attempt to write my terribly thought out fan fic. ( not to mention appaling grammar and a multitude of other sins)

You don't need any persuades at all to get him to do it. I had to actively work to get him to refuse.
