Well, I wouldn't call that a sequel, really. Can't say I'm surprised, but I'm also not all that interested. I'll think about getting it if it gets good reviews, but it's not a 'must purchase.'

Edit: Okay, looked at the site, and the whole 'fame, fortune, and power' thing leaves me totally cold.

They don't say a timeframe right?  I'm hoping for the time after or during the First Blight.  "Only survivor" "destruction of your home" "how the world was changed forever" - I've got my fingers crossed, because that could be really intriguing from a lore standpoint.

If it is so, I hope that the home that is destroyed is Orlais.

I actually don't mind DA:2 being set in a different time and place. I don't really *need* to continue any of my Wardens and that can be done in expansions (though the quality will probably suck ass going by Awakening). I like playing them but to be honest I never really expected much more beyond what we got.

The replay value will go down by a lot only having one origin, and what worries me more is not having the freedom to play any race/gender. They better let you, DO NOT WANT to play bearded fantasy dude #23894889353489534. If more cinematic means more like Mass Effect... do not want that conversation system AT ALL. I want to talk to my dudes, I don't want my dude to actually talk lol.

I am bad, I lul'd.

AS LONG AS THERE ARE DWARVES I AM OKAY.

...they'll be dwarves, right?

And it means I can wrap up Missa's story the way I want and not be swayed by the sequel! Yay.

That's the only thing I can think of that would keep me from playing it. If we're going to have a predefined character, in terms of gender and race, then things look bad... Until we hear otherwise, it is a thing to consider because DA2 comes rather soon and maybe they cut out a lot to make it in time.

I'd be lying to myself if I didn't think I'd end up buying DA2 and playing it and maybe even liking it. I loved all of DA:O but the thing that kept me replaying DA:O was the characters ( Alistair) and the thing that made me rush to download Awakenings was the characters ( um , yeah , Alistair again.  That was upsetting. He never returned like he promised! Grrrr ! ) Also the thing that made me urgently download all the DLCs. ( I think you can guess a theme. This is the Alistair gush thread.)

So if the characters are as well done as I thought they were in DA:O then I guess it will probably be fine. It doesn't mean that I'm not hoping 'one of the few survivors'  means that Alistair and my PC have had to run away from a somehow destroyed Ferelden and start anew somewhere as the exiled king and his queen or something. Did I mention I like Alistair?

I'll be ok with a disconnected sequel if they answer some questions left open from Awakening and Origins (and the books). I'll buy DLC and expansions for answers but I also don't care if David Gaider just releases an Excel file full of yes's and no's. I just hate that they've left loose threads.

Yeah, I don't really want to play some pigheaded glory hog :/ The whole point is to have options. Even in ME they gave you choices... I hate it when games give points in a black and white morality system though.

If it takes place after the events of Origins though, I wonder how long after it will be. If it is really far in the future they may be able to reference the Wardenand their actions during that Blight in very generic, "legend" type way. Otherwise they have some real 'splaining to do (or they could just ignore it and set a canon because they do what they want).

It doesn't exist.... Or rather it used to be the Awakening announcement, and now has nothing on it. What was it when you linked?

Well, I agree to some extent. I will miss Alistair and all the other companions I 'met' and got to know in my various PC's travels throughout Ferelden. Personally I have no one PC I feel more of a connection to and after about 20 replays in the original game its not like making a new one will bother me. Here's hoping we aren't generic PC McAwesomesauce and forced into one singular role (Human male) and we actually get to choose, race, gender and character customization. Considering Bioware's track record in that respect I have high hopes that will continue to be the case and that they will not force us into one role.

I will probably get DA2 and play and enjoy it. Honestly with the insane power levels after finishing Awakenings, what else COULD they do? A fresh start in a new locale with new faces and friends will be fine with me. I DL'ed the Leliana's song and thoroughly enjoyed it though it had only Leliana in it.

I think if a gender option is available and character customization (with battle voice and appearance player chosen) I might make me a male PC with Alistair's features. That will do quite handily at staving off missing my favorite companion while I play DA2.

in the meantime, lets keep the thread alive and gushing for our favorite companion! And honestly can you tell which of these is an Alistair morph from the Toolset and which is one I made with the CC from a PC head?

Where did you get that bit of utterly depressing info?

There's a new forum for DA2. It's a bit crazy with the new topics, so I can't link it, but it has been confirmed that the main character is going to be named Hawke and it's going to be human only - male or female.

This leads me to think of my earlier theory of daddy Alistair as Hawke is a survivor of the Blight. The action will take place on the Free Marches, which is a bit to the north of Ferelden.

We have to be a human? I hate playing as a human. Posted Image

I can't imagine they'd force a gender on you since they never do, though.

Still, I'm good with not continuing our Wardens as long as they don't pull a Revan and announce that  a few years after the Blight you disappeared and didn't get a chance to have the ending you wanted to. Awakening seemed like it might indicate that but hopefully an expansion or DLC will take care of that and you can go back to whatever it was you were doing before. Of course, if it leaves you at 'disappeared' and it's not a big plot point but just a 'we need to get the Warden out of the way' then it will probably become a part of my discontinuity.

http://dragonage.bioware.com/da2/ Yes, you get to choose between mage, rogue or warrior.

Wait, wait, wait. But if our "home" is gone,  wouldn't that mean Ferelden was destroyed? I guess that no heir thing really was a big deal. Posted Image
