We have to be a human? I hate playing as a human.
I can't imagine they'd force a gender on you since they never do, though.
Still, I'm good with not continuing our Wardens as long as they don't pull a Revan and announce that a few years after the Blight you disappeared and didn't get a chance to have the ending you wanted to. Awakening seemed like it might indicate that but hopefully an expansion or DLC will take care of that and you can go back to whatever it was you were doing before. Of course, if it leaves you at 'disappeared' and it's not a big plot point but just a 'we need to get the Warden out of the way' then it will probably become a part of my discontinuity.
I'm most bothered that we apparently aren't going to get those loose ends tied up. "But her adventures were far from over"...yeah. Guess they weren't too far. I dislike that they're turning it into ME: the middle ages of earth, apparently. I just...I don't know. But I guess when I finish this dwarf and HNF I'm done. Why bother making any more ya know?

More I hear the less I think I want to. Going to run away and pretend it's not happening.
Alistair and I are not pleased by these announcements.

As long as we could tie it up in our own canon it would be okay, I think. If it's canon that our loose ends are never tied up because we went missing and were never heard from again and this was, I don't know, a century so we're pretty clearly dead then that would probably be the worst possible fate for our still-alive characters.Lady Jess wrote...

Our own canon how? Unless you write a fic for every character. Which I don't. I was looking for confirmation of the release date being 2-2011 but nothing there. Ugh I dunno where I stand really. It looks interesting, and I can still have a female character. So I'll probably play it. But I really want a true ending for my current wardens.

There's a new forum for DA2. It's a bit crazy with the new topics, so I can't link it, but it has been confirmed that the main character is going to be named Hawke and it's going to be human only - male or female.Mel_Redux wrote...

So it is confirmed... We play as Hawke, a human character.I am sad...
Where did you get that bit of utterly depressing info?
This leads me to think of my earlier theory of daddy Alistair as Hawke is a survivor of the Blight. The action will take place on the Free Marches, which is a bit to the north of Ferelden.
Wait, wait, wait. But if our "home" is gone, wouldn't that mean Ferelden was destroyed? I guess that no heir thing really was a big deal.
I'm still holding out for this being a "prequel" sort of game that takes place during one of the earlier four Blights, most especially the First Blight. This game supposedly takes place after a Blight, and a time of great destruction. They describe it as an "ever-changing world" but part of the remarkable thing about what our Wardens did is that they ended the Blight before it truly even started, and the destruction was nowhere near on the levels of previous Blights.
In addition, the team has said they're putting DLC out for DA:O for at least two years after release. We haven't even gotten to year one yet, which implies that there's more DLC and possibly even expansions to come for us. I think the interview from the Leliana's Song DLC confirms this - they said they had things planned for both NPC backstory AND Warden continuation.
So the only thing I'm worrying about now is that I have to say goodbye to my elves for DA2.

You don't have to write fanfics to decide that, in the absense of anything telling you otherwise, that, say, your elven mage stayed on as chancellor for a few years while Alistiar got settled and then decided to be First Enchanter of the Circle until her Calling. Just a vague idea of how they end up.Lady Jess wrote...

Yeah, we still have DLC coming for Origins at least, I intend to finish mine out. And I'll even give DA2 a shot, I mean at least it's all new, and we won't be pulling our hair ut at screwed up continuation.

Thank you! It's an intensely frustrating system.
I don't think knowing how DA2 is will kill DAO for me, but I'm on a DAO break to focus on writing. I still like playing the game and there are still things I haven't done yet, so I imagine I have two or three playthroughs left in me at the very least.

Ugh, if this is true, what a huge pain in the ass Ferelden turned out to be, all for nothing.
