I still can't believe that there is art for DA2 out now, you think its going to be a prequel game to this Dragon Age? But the first blight lasted about 90 years...

I hope not. It would make the US a foregone conclusion. It could be done, though, if you just start the game at year 80 of the Blight.

I'm betting on it being a prequel.  I gave reasons a few pages back - I could repeat if anyone is interested and now that I've gotten a few doses of caffeine in.

The press release says that you're a survivor of a Blight - that could mean a survivor during a long Blight like the First (my expectation) or that you've survived a finished Blight.

I relooked at the article yall showed a few pages back, its after a blightl and by the style of things I really do want to say its a rpequel

But now I'm wondering if the woman they showed in the art is an Old God? perhaps a villain maybe the old God of Beauty, and also think they are expanding the story into a ten year story that's kind of exciting.

I am just hoping I can be my loli barbarian even for a short while

I think that the pivotal time in the game world would have been referenced in that case. Unless it is something like the first blight.

Edit: Considering this line: This is the story of how the world changed forever.

That would be quite reassuring as it would mean that it can be done without the world ending or her getting tainted and restarting the Blight. I really hate being called cowardly and irresponsible for doing the DR.

Unless they just died of their wounds. It's been a very long time and would the Wardens really be able to tell if the man who died after killing the Archdemon and who was severely wounded did so because his soul was destroyed or because he bled out? If it took a few minutes they might even believe that the Old God soul entering you takes a few minutes to kill you (which for all we know even now it does).

And like phaonica said, that would mean no Wardens ever died fightign the Archdemon, which would be false, unless the Wardens chose to lie.
If they retcon this, it would be meh and I feel sorry fo al thsoe who did the US ending.

My thoughts on it are that locking us into one particular name and race means that those things are vitally important to the character.  If we think of DAO as "the present" then our Wardens shape the future by their own actions, such that they can be of any race or background.

However, in something like Leliana's Song, the main character herself is important - we have to play a particular person to tell the story.  This suggests to me that Hawke as a person is important.

Several statements have been made about Hawke - that he/she is "the hero that the world needed", that the story is best told with Hawke as the main character, and from here that Hawke "transforms the face of the Dragon Age universe", and is "the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age".

It seems to me that this is likely to be a historical story, like Leliana's Song - it's a story about someone in particular, which to me sounds like a legend being told i.e. a past event and not the "present" day that our Wardens are in.  Especially the part about being the single most important character and transforming the face of the universe, and a statement from the press release about how the "the legend around Hawke’s rise to power is
shrouded in myth and rumor."  We're given that hint that this is a past event here again.

I can only think of three events that would have such an impact on the Dragon Age timeverse.

1) Entrance to the Golden City, leading to the creation of the darkspawn
2) Discovery that partaking of the taint makes one immune
3) Discovering that an archdemon can only be killed by a tainted indivdual.

Number 1 is eliminated since we know that Hawke is a survivor of a Blight - this has to take place after the formation of the Black City, provided that event even happened.  That, to me, leaves numbers 2 or 3, either of which are likely, though probably not both.  I think the Grey Wardens fought the archdemon for another century before it was killed.

Anyways, those are my theories, we'll see if I'm right over the next few months.
