Ha! The motto of the Morrigan thread is "Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here." Being a Downer is being slightly optimistic by our standards.

I'm not gonna write it off. Even if it ends up sucking. I am pretty used to hating sequels of things I love anyway. And while it is different I don't really see myself hating DA2 based on what little I know so far anyway.
I don't know if I agree with this sentiment I mean we know quite a bit about the basic mechanics and direction of this game. I know personally I have enough info to know I don't like the sound of this game and unless they come out and say the exact opposite of everything they've been saying so far that opinion won't change.

If I'm going to roleplay, I want control of my character. Having been able to be so free in character creation in Origins, to see that taken away in DA2... If I came to the game with no such expectations, well, I probably wouldn't have come to the game at all, but at least I'd know what I was going to get. It really sucks to be told that not only is the experience I had in DAO not going to be repeated in the so-called sequel, the devs who made it possible think it was a mistake that I had that much freedom to begin with.LadyDamodred wrote...
*shrugs* If the game was good, I would be fine. When it comes down to it, a game being good or not very rarely hinges on the race you play. It can add a nice twist or flavor, but I've never seen it make or break a game.

Alright, I did say I was done being a downer.

He, he, I think he was paraphrasing Alistair: "You know, one good thing about the Blight is how it brings people together."yukidama wrote...
Really? For me it's tearing apart because I don't happen to agree with either the brown-nosers OR the doomsayers. So I get called a whiner or a sycophant. It's really making this place suck, honestly.

Unfortunately, it seems a lot of people feel that way.yukidama wrote...
Yeah, haha. I dunno, I've just been really irritated lately and after tonight my trips here will probably be much less frequent :/

I am in the middle too, so to speak. It was just a hyperbol.
On one hand, I am not pleased with certain developments in DA2 such as the VA / dialogue system. But on the other, certain things interest me like the setting (city states dynamics) and the story that I think will be good, even if we have less control over it.
I do not doubt that DA2 will be a good game and I'll probably buy it. But I do doubt that it will have the same impact on me as DA:O did. But we'll have to wait and see.

The thing I hate the most about announcements like this is how it does kill some fan's enthusiasm for the the original game (the same thing happened to my crazy/entertaining Sims community when Sims 3 was announced).
I do hope that, after a while, you'll come to feel differently. Why not bother? DA:O is a fantastic game and enjoying it has nothing to do with DA2.Serissia wrote...

This is pretty much what has happened with me. Origins is a fantastic game but I kinda feel like, "why bother?". There's no guarantee that we'll even see all of the loose plot ends tied up from Origins/Awakening at this point.

Off topic: why is the warden "the Warden"?
I think it would be nice if we'll get to hear that the hero of Ferelden passed through the Free Marches and based on your save, get to find out some additional details about where s/he's headed. It's very little, but I think it will mean a lot.KnightofPhoenix wrote...
The biggest slap in the face is not only loose plot ends, but stupid loose plot ends like having our character disapear, while simultaneously hinting at a return. It's annoying. If Bioware knew it wasn't going to continue the story of the Warden, then it would have been better if it remained quiet and just said that the Warden moved on, like going back to court if Consort. Hopefully Bioware still intends to continue the story, but I doubt that.
I still don't get it. Duncan and Alistair are also wardens, Warden-Commander is a title, I get that, but "the Warden" is used in order to distinguish the main character from the others? Or what?KnightofPhoenix wrote...

Th emphasis is on "The".
And because that's probably the only thing that all our very different characters share.
