I get the sense that what they find awesome about their game is not what I find awesome about their game at all (because, so far, I have seen no DW NBA in the promotional materials).
I went to a happy place where I imagined a game focused entirely on a naked barbarian Alistair, no idea what it would be about but I get the feeling I wouldn't care too much.
Not naked here I'm afraid, but still nice.

Y'know, I'm hoping that the Hawke storyline is just leading into a better storyline for our characters. Like, something has to happen that you can't have a choice on, so it's more acceptable for them to use Hawke rather than our original characters....or something. I'm ever the optimistic lol
That's what really is in my craw, the voiced PC and forcing DA2 to be a Mass Effect clone. Reading the dev comments from the Game Informer article about how boring and decrepit Origins supposedly is infuriates me. They're out trashing their own product and comparing it unfavorably to a game I find unplayable.
I agree with you about the VO thing. The first person perspective was what I liked best about Origins. Unless they somehow intend to try to pull off a first person perspective with VOs, of which I am highly skeptical.
I can deal with Hawke. I can deal with the Flemeth Morrigan rumor. I can even deal with the voice acted PC. I don't like any of those things, but I can deal. Whar I can't deal with is the dialogue wheel. It's like sitting at the movies with someone who keeps poking you in the shoulder saying 'he's going to talk now!' Or reading a book and having to push a button to get the next line. It's a constant pull from immersion that keeps reminding you that it's just a game, the characters are fake, and the PC is a puppet.

I would miss Alistair except I'm going to stubbornly replay DA:O until I can probably recite all possible dialogue options. I'm refusing to think of DA2 as a sequel, unless it ties in with my warden's story it'll just be another game.

It's because the sun shines from the PC's butt, so their special. It's the rule of video gaming. The player character must be more awesome than anyone else at all times.laradenton wrote...
I still don't get it. Duncan and Alistair are also wardens, Warden-Commander is a title, I get that, but "the Warden" is used in order to distinguish the main character from the others? Or what?KnightofPhoenix wrote...

Off topic: why is the warden "the Warden"?
Th emphasis is on "The".
And because that's probably the only thing that all our very different characters share.

I'm thinking it's time to get serious about modding and make some DLC. Hmmm I suppose if we record the actors voices on other shows and splice them into mods where approptiate , we'd get in trouble, huh? Great picture. He looks like he's refusing to do something and she can't believe it.Zyanic wrote...
I'm very much of the mind that the trailer for the 'sequel' isn't even going to be out for a month yet, and while I understand people's curiousity I just don't see the point in speculating about it. That's not meant to be a dig at anyone, just my personal thoughts.

I jest, I wouldn't have a clue how to do any of that in all honesty. I can barely work out how to download the toolset let alone anything else.
I would of course support any such action from the shadows, like a ninja...or a tramp.

Gold is tough. It's hard to get the right color and a specular reflection that looks right. This seems okay, but maybe a little too much like brass. I had to make the little piece at the front with the crown on it gold, too even though it's a separate channel, because there's a piece in the back that shares the color, and it looks weird if it's not gold or silver/white. I can't make it silver, because the crown motief shares a map with all the parts that are white-silver, and it looks weird if the background and foreground are the same color. Also, that little piece seems to take most of it's color from the specular color rather than the diffuse, making it brighter than I'd like.
The other problem is that I'd like to make the black parts into a darker gold, but I'd have to change the tint map, itself to do that. Is that possible, and if so, how do I do it without changing every other piece of armor that uses it?
Also, the white is a little too white, maybe. What's the best way to tone it down a little without making it look like steel of silverite.

As for the cutting and splicing of the actors voices from other shows, just don't go there. While it's a good idea, all it takes is for one person to scream 'copyright theft' and well...it won't be pretty.
We could work with the audio files we already have access to in the game, but other than paying the actors to record more lines, I don't think there's much we could do for custom voice over's.

Realistically, I think it would have to be unvoiced. It would be possible to edit the lines that exist to make new ones, but very hard to do it seemlessly.

Speaking of modding, I'm trying a retint and I could use some expert advice. I'm trying to make an armor that has the same coloration of Alistair's Awakening armor (gold and white-silver), but has a simpler design. First I'll show you the pictures, then I'll tall you the probems I'm having:
I'll PM you regarding the little I know about this particular part of the toolset

Then we would know why he's The Most Awesomest Ever. His rise to power is fueled by velvet-voiced squee.

*waves* as a recent de-lurker myself I approve of such actions.
as for the voices thing I wouldn't actually approve of copyright thievery since it's a bad thing in my opinion. Doesn't mean I'd rush to the authorities should a not too official Alistair DLC find its way onto my computer
Ah well, off to drool over some pixels again.

No! He's Alistair!
although last I saw Steve Valentine had 'heard nothing about DA2' so it's unlikely I guess. ( I realise this wasn't an entirely serious suggestion.)

Yeah, it's probably too early in production for them to have contacted him. Maybe this thread get to him first. We could hire him for our custom DLC. We could start a pool. [/end wishful thinking]
