Yeah, I'm hoping that even if there's no Alistair in DA2, we still can get a DLC that finishes things up WITH an Alistair. That wouldn't be voiced until they started work on it :D

I tried to pin Gaider on a DA2 thread he was posting on, about whether or not our Wardens would return for any DLC.  He never answered yay or nay.

BTW this qualifies as being a "whiner" with the Bioware fanboys over there.  No attachment to the Warden allowed.  You have to be totally in love with MIKE HAWKE! or else you're a loser.

I think that's an oversimplification.

Actually, a lot of people there are very upset. Not all of those are upset about the same things, but I'd say that at least half the people on that forum have serious misgivings, and many of them are quite angry about it.

I know people are upset. Frankly, it's more difficult not to know they're upset. :x

If we're not getting one with Morrigan what hope does Alistair have?  Besides his story is pretty nicely wrapped up, no?  At least you guys can rest with a "happily ever after" ending.

No, Alistair's story is not necessarily finished. There are many possibilities how he could end up if you didn't have him killed or sacrificed, not all happily ever after or king.  And the DR adds further possibilities.

Which is why I hope another expansion, not simply some pissy little DLC, comes along to wrap up the many loose threads involving Morrigan, Alistair, and many things. The DR, Flemeth, the Architect, just off the bat need serious closure.

TBH I'd love that.  Really I would.  But DA2 makes it pretty clear that Morrigan's DR story is moving forward without the Warden, so I wouldn't count on Alistair being tied into that.
I guess there's the chance of some small DLC involving Alistair's disappearance but who knows? <_<

Frankly, I've pretty much lost hope that the vision of DA:Origins has any relation to the current vision for future games, DLC, or expansions. I'll be surprised if we get anything other than a past history companion story for each of them. Not that I won't love an Alistair pre-Origins story, but I'd thought that the DLC would be individual quests along the line of the tower quest, ot the Sacred Urn quest, not the thin offerings we've been given. I was willing to defend those when I thought they were just feeling their way through making a balance of something that was financially viable and a reasonable level of plot, but between Awakening, the Darkspawn Chronicles, and DA2, I'm afraid I've lost hope. I don't believe that they are really behind the Origins game model anymore. Still, while that pisses me off pretty royally (bait and switch, duds, bait and switch....), it will never make me like Origins less.

All I'm really hearing about it is from this thread. Maybe it's because the DA2 threads sound scary and so I'm avoiding them? Posted Image

there can never be enough Alistair, so even if the developers consider him all nicely wrapped up with a pretty bow (which I..ahem.. don't mind, either!) I still want to see more of him.

Totally agree.

here's some more Alistair. (sorry I have no naked, wrapped up with a bow screenshots. Oh wait, you didn't say naked... that's just me then...)

I like Mike Hawke, although I must always refer to him as York, instead. I'm ignoring the rest of the DA2 forums :D

And, umm, no Zyanic, it's not just you...

I don't think he's too happy that I did this to him, he would've been.. ahem.. happier with a bow in another place, but I couldn't really post that in a forum. Just my own thoughts. :o:innocent:

Speaking of avatars, can someone tell me how to make a pic my avatar? (for the eleventy-billionth time?)

You just make a character. Once you make them open up their folder and replace their portrait with a 146x146 image of your choice. Make sure it is named "charactername_portrait". Then, select "read only" under properties for the image. Then, wait for it to upload to your profile and you should be able to choose it as your avatar.

Right, if I remember correctly  from when Sandtigress told me, make a picture 146x146 and name it for example 'elissa-portrait' and replace the portrait in the character folder in your documents. That was possibly the worst description of how to do anything ever, I apologise.
There's a slim chance you might be able to dechipher it though.

Ah just ignore me, someone beat me to it with a much better and more accurate description.

Actually, from what I'm reading of DA2, it seems that Morrigan and the DR don't really have any bearing on the story. It's a totally new canned character, over a span of 10 years, in a completely  different part of Thedas, with Lothering being the only common tie. I haven't seen anything about any sort of continuity/connection.

Which is why I think an expansion for DAO is in order, since DA2 does not look like a continuation or a conclusion to anything, but a whole new ballgame.

Alot of things sound promising in DA2, as I never really thought it would be a continuation of DAO. What does worry me is that they will not have another expansion to truly finish up DAO, since they are going on a whole new story and everything. Too much left open. especially givem Awakenings and the Architect question. That bugs me the most.

I like the idea of a story spanning a decade, giving the possibility to actually watch a character's life change and evolve over a long period of time. I do not, however, like the idea of a canned character, and I'm disappointed that they have not carried over the concept of different origins, which really made DA unique. It gave virtually endless possibilities in perspective, roleplay, and outcome, and added a personal touch. I also dislike being limited to playing human. What...no dwarves in Lothering or the Free marches? Get serious.

It's too early to say for certain, and I am more than happy to wait and see what develops with DA2. A new story would be great, but leaving DAO and Awakening hanging with no resolution, after all that happened, that would be a serious crime.

So I shall continue to hope for another expansion.

TBH, I don't mind the lack of resolution. It leaves it up to me to decide what really happened, and I'm ok with that, because then I get the ending that I want.

What scares me is the voiced PC, and lack of character choice. I will be playing Hawke, and there are no ifs ands or buts about it. And how this Hawke reacts to the world and interacts with people will be solely determined by the VA, and not how I imagine it in my head.

Mel disapproves.

That's another thing. A voiced character limits alot of RP possibilities. It's much involving when your character is voiced in your head.

There is some continuity.  For instance, Flemeth will be in the game and we're told other NPCs will "look familiar."  You will import a game save from an Origins character, so some reference will be made to your game choices.

We talked about this a bit in the Morrigan thread, but I'll toss it out here.  The idea of playing a romance with a voiced PC makes me squick.  Hearing a voice actor deliver the romance lines, especially when we're not even sure what they're going to be beforehand, is bound to be [alistair] awkward [/alistair], at least IMO. The romance lines in ME are also very stilted.  I would expect the DA devs to do better, but I just can't imagine getting as "into" a romance as with Origins.  Of course, they haven't even confirmed that there will be any, I'm just assuming.

I was also ruminating on the fact that female voices have a higher tendency to be annoying for me and that the only NPC voice I could stand on a long-term basis in Origins was Morrigan's.  Adneate said other female gamers had said the same thing.  Did any of you find the same?  Not sure why I have a lower tolerance for female voices- I assume it's being a woman myself.

Yeah.   You might have the same problem that I do- I not only found femShep terribly annoying, but also Leliana and Wynne after a while.  I could recognize that they have nice voices, it's just to listen to them talk made me want to bang on the ESC key.

It's strange but I've never had a problem with FemShep's voice (wait, not true. I hated it when she insisted on sounding desperate when talking to Jacob in ME2). Maybe it's because of how awful the alternative was?
