Much as I hate to perpetuate the puppy-eyes, Bioware has pretty much killed my enthusiasm for the franchise at this point.
In fact, since I also have finished the Song of Ice and Fire series, I'm at a bit of a loss for timewasting material. I've got lots of serious reading backed up in the queue, but nothing under "absorbing world to get lost in." Any suggestions? I know some of you are Wheel of Time fans. Is it worth it to read the early books even though the series was never finished?
If you do not mind dark adult content, I enjoyed the Kushiel series from Jaqueline Carey. Part 1 is called Kushiel's Dart. I really enjoyed the first 3 books. The second 3 were not bad but didn't live up to the first I think.
I second the Kushiel series suggestion. That's one of my favorites. Also, the Tamir trilogy by Lynn Flewelling , starting with The Bone Doll's Twin, is really good
"Young Tobin had the misfortune of being born female in perilous times, in which high-born females of all ages are being murdered by order of the king, to ensure his son's succession to the throne. Years earlier, King Elrius usurped his sister's rightful claim to the throne--an act that abrogated the divine protections set over his people, bringing plague and war to the land. There are those who would see the divine prophecies honored, however, and a warrior queen restored to the throne. So Tobin is disguised by means of dark magic that conceals her true gender with that of her twin brother, who was killed at birth, but not fast enough. He drew a single breath, which was enough to keep his soul earthbound and horribly angry. Tobin will indeed be queen, but only if she can be protected until adulthood from her insane mother, her demonic brother, and every evil wizard in the land. This terrific tale is dark and exciting, and the magic in it is truly wonderful." -- a summary from Amazon

Books 1-5 are *awesome*. And then...not so much. I can't even finish book 11.
I highly recommend the Dark Tower series from Stephen King. It sucked my soul away and I loved it.
TOP:
Wheel of Time starts great but loses its focus. The later books desparately needed editing. Dark Tower is amazing. A series I'm into right now that looks very good is the Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. I'm part way through book 2 and quite impressed; book 10 is about to be published.

Did you notice the books started to lose focus after a certain character went away in book 5? *grumps*

Indeed, Lady Damodred, your namesake's departure was devastating. The group and the story unraveled after that. I kept waiting for a reappearance but alas, 'twas not to be.LadyDamodred wrote...

De-lurking...
I love the Wheel of Time and definitly think it is worth the read even though I do agree with some of the comments about the later books. The series is being finished by Bandon Sanderson and based on the first the book he wrote for the series, I am hopeful we will be getting some focus and closure.
I have also read Jaqueline Carey and Lynn Flewelling and would reccomend those as well. Steven Erikson is AWESOME I've read the series multiple times.
Two others I really like are Anne Bishop's Black Jewels trilogy and Melanie Rawn's Dragon Prince/Dragon Star series.

Evil, evil Mel.
Fortunately, Alistair appreciates a woman with a nice lip blanket. Especially if it comes with bonus perviness.

You mean the love scene? It's possible, maybe? I never really noticed.
Oh noes, what if Alistair has a secret twin who handles all the physical stuff while Alistair does the face-to-face adorably awkward and romantic stuff?

They both cycle every quarter of an hour.
Or that is his stunt-double for the risque scenes.

I've been waiting since book 6. It was obvious she was the only one keeping things together. And so help me, when she gets back, she needs to hit Rand so very, very hard. *grumps*
Books 8-11 really killed it for me. They really did. I may not finish the series and that's unheard of for me,
Addai: Favorite editon? No. I think some of the later editions corrected some minor errors. Be aware, these things are friggin' tomes. Literally, every detail in the first 5 books is important. It's a lot to digest.
