Actually his romance starts RAWR, but ends very sweetly and how he delivered the farwell to my sis, who sadly took the US ending even depressed me.

That depends really. Considering Kirkwall is just across narrow sea from Ferelden and there's track record of its denizens raiding Ferelden coast... there can be very sensible reasons to interact with whoever winds up in charge of Ferelden after the Blight.
