I think I am gonna go for all three and see which one sticks. I don't really care too much with a male character for some reason. If it's not Alistair I am just "meh".

Out of curiosity, why put the effort into a romance if you clearly don't care who it's with? Do you just not want a single PC?

Well, I'm not really putting any effort in. Since I am not really RPing much or anything, having a romance gives the story a bit of added drama.

Yeah, it was my second time making a male elf. I've never played as one, not even in just the Origin or anything. I did start a male city elf previously but he never made it out his house.

Yeah I couldn't even find a good opportunity to post bearded Yuki.

Anders was an Alistair clone, so it's possible they'll make another similar character.

Anders doesn't do it for me, so they're going to have to try harder if that's all they've got.  Of course, our party interaction was so limited in Awakening that it's probably not a good judge.

Same here. Upon meeting Anders I was like, Hey here is the funny sarcastic guy... hmm where have I seen that exactly again...and better on top of that? Well yeah true to that the interactions really sucked in DA:A. Oh look a tree, let's talk

As for me, I feel felt my interest dying down for DA:O, thanks to the world cup and than the oh so great news of the Gary stu named Hawke and DA2. Blargh. <_< That is the reason I rarely post here right now (more lurking atm, really)

Fortunately, I still have an epic seized FF to boost and to write on, so since I'm back on writing on it, my love has returned <3 And due to that I only have 20 of approx. 80 chapter written yet, it will last a loooong while still.

Virtue of being the protagonist? Plenty of people accuse the Warden of being a Mary Sue, particularly in light of Darkspawn Chronicles.



Personally, I can't stand all the Warden-hate.

It's just baffling to me that people can throw that phrase at this point in the game. Especially when it seems you can still control Hawke's personality to an extent and are pretty much restricted in your actions similarly to how you are in DA:O (in terms of what you can do and where you end up).

Not to say that Hawke can't be a Gary Stu, but the Warden can very well considered as one if you ignore all the mental RP and just look at what happens in the game (not saying I think the Warden is, but some people certainly do).

Yeah. I'm just saying it's a bit premature to call Hawke a Mary Sue, especially when some people argue the current characters we play are the same due to their actions and role in the game.

You're only a mary sue if you play as one...and it's a little difficult to play as one since in most cases there's no clear cut "good" answer...



i never realized there was warden hate for being a mary sue...sounds wierd to me actually. that's like hating yourself because you did the right thing. i think most people are just frustrated with the mary sues in fanfics but then again, noone is forcing them to read fanfics...

Some people, particuarly here, were also pissed at the implication that without them then all of Ferelden was doomed particulary since Alistair would have been the one leading them to their failure. And his decisions made no sense.

Edit: Of course, if Alistair COULD do it without us then it makes him look like a Gary Stu and makes every little inconvenience of being a Warden or stopping the Blight - let alone the big sacrifices - completely pointless since you would have been like, say, Shale who people managed to end the Blight without just fine before getting the DLC.
