Yuki, is that your new elf? He is damn sexy. Why is it that I'm the only one who can't make male characters?

No. No, you aren't. I had to delete my male warden because he looked so ridiculous--and it was before there was the face replacer, so.... Bye bye Aedan.... He was a bit slow, anyway.  Well, focused on the task at hand. He didn't romance anyone, although he was best buds with Alistair. Unless you count the dark ritual.... It was my first playthrough, so it was all about the blight. ;)

You're only a mary sue if you play as one...and it's a little difficult to play as one since in most cases there's no clear cut "good" answer...

i never realized there was warden hate for being a mary sue...sounds wierd to me actually. that's like hating yourself because you did the right thing. i think most people are just frustrated with the mary sues in fanfics but then again, noone is forcing them to read fanfics...

Yeah, I never play my warden as all powerful, or all knowing. They don't have to be. I figure he/she is instrumental in helping the companions, but that most of them would have gotten to the same place on their own, anyway. And sometimes the warden kind of fails, like with Oghren, who's really no different for knowing the warden.

I do think that the DSC takes the possibility of playing a mary-sue and attempts to canonize it pretty obnoxiously. I mean, they go to the trouble of not even having the mildest of facial expressions, and then make a DLC that says you are a shining god, and if you didn't play that way, too bad. And the way it makes the companions completely helpless without the warden is even worse.

And they killed my dog. I ain't buyin' no stinkin' DLC where they kill my dog. ;)

The term is used loosely.  Basically, without the Warden, the world was DOOOMED, and hence the sun shines out of the Hero of Ferelden's behind etc.

How? Historically speaking, many victories and great achievements were based virtually on one man and a handful of followers. Why does that necessarily have to make them a Mary Sue? Just because the DLC showed that Alistair couldn't do it?

It depends on how that character is RPed. Not the achievement in and of itself, which is not as Mary Suish as you'd think. You had an army with you, and strong NPC alies like Eamon, Bhelen / Harrowmont, Irving / Gregoir, Riordan...etc. And while our PCs had a lot of choices and power, they couldn't do whatever they want.

I have no problem thinking that Ferelden (not the world) would probably have been doomed without the Warden. And I have no problem saying that, without having a Mary Sue character.

I prefer to play a more human hero, myself. Someone who needs the companions as much as they need him/her. I think it makes all their efforts more heroic. Oh, and I don't take anything in that DLC as having any meaning, It's AU at best, and I wouldn't even consider it that.

I loved Dragon Age; I bought the books, played it all the time , got OBSESSED and I bought all the DLC for it, but I have to admit that I have been really disappointed with the last few DLC. Leliana's Song is really quite rubbish and the end of Awakening irritated me, because it just felt like they'd gone "You killed the bad guy, so yeah, roll credits" Ugh. The DLC, with all the respect in the world, has simply felt a bit churned out and I guess I was hoping for more than that. Realistically, though, I can see they are just there for a bit of fun.
Plus I missed Alistair... Posted Image
I am trying to keep positive about Dragon Age 2.  I've read next to nothing about it and I figured that was the best way to do it. When I bought Dragon Age, I had no idea what it was about and didn't know what to expect. I'm hoping if I do the same with 2, then I will enjoy it because I won't have any preconceived ideas about it.  I don't want to make any judgements until I've actually played it for myself.

Oh Alistair, sweet, sweet Alistair. I have to post here at least once to gush, don't I? I'm big on Alistair, big on his character and his relationship with The Warden (pretty much any relationship will do, the PC I created he fell in love with though, she's not like me xD). Oddly I myself am not so much into him, so much as I am into he and the PCs relationship. Weird, isn't it? I even had plushies of the two of them commissioned.

I hope mentions will come across in Dragon Age 2, that would be nice, :)

Yeah.  Same here. (minus Leliana's song, maybe one day when I'm bored)
Although, the DLC (which,  in my eyes, cost a relatively small amount of money, don't know what it's like in other places,) I can  handle being throw away fun. Awakenings on the other hand... well I suspect it's been covered plenty elsewhere. I played it once and haven't felt the need to do so again yet will still happily create new wardens to run through the original campaign.

Having said that, however, I'd be a teeny bit miffed if the only further DA:O related content was DLC in the style of RTO or DSC.
Anyway I suspect we're going round in circles covering  topics that have already been discussed to death.  I would like to insert a humourous picture here but I can't be bothered. Imagine one.

And how is what I have said not a human character? When did I deny the importance of companions?

Surely, me thinking that my character, though not alone, was still the leader does not make him any less human, no?

Of course I will! But if you want to see, here's a picture now. Be warned, she's since added Alistair's stubble so there's plenty of reason to take more pictures later!

Zyanic and laradenton: Thank you, I love them! I think it was money well spent. Too bad she hates armor now and will probably stop plushie making soon...I'm glad I got them out of her before then! @o@

that's such a shame that she hates armour now, because the stuff Alistair plushie is wearing looks pretty amazing.

Oh you'd laugh. She asked me "So do you want it in velour or pleather?" and I insisted "oh whatevers easiest for you!, but I would like the real armor look" so she opts for the easier, pleather. She can't find it ends up with the WORST most cantankerous material ever and hates armor forever. I'd have gotten Odelia (the PC) in armor but you know, I wrote her in fanfic in Queen attire, so dangit she's got it.

Oh backtracking on the darkspawn chronicles for one thing. I made an au of the au. I love it. I like dark desperate AUs and you know, ruining them and making them tragic fanfics which let the PC be the big damn hero in a time paradox of doom. So I dunno, it's good for my fanfiction habits. :) Oh but I didn't backtrack for drama! I just wanted to let it be known, you know, some of us are cracky and use it to make a very tragic love story WITH Alistair alive and ...you know, neat stuff like that. AU lets us take liberties :)

Weird how people see their own work, because I think it is so well made. At least you got her to make the commission :D!

And because I decided not to do what I am supposed to and play, here's my mage meeting Alistair:

We should make it a requirement. All those who join this thread need to invent a cool word or sentence.

Oh no, she likes it! It just...hurt to make! She usually makes three or four plushies in one day (no joke) ...I looked at the page after a day of work on Alistair and she was still in stage two thanks to the armor xD

Time paradoooox of doooom! What can I say. I have fallen in love with the idea. Maybe someday this week I'll post the entire 20,000 word first chapter. ...I don't post a lot of fanfiction. :| In the end though, ....IDEK lost my train of thought!

When I get the plushies though I'll make Alistair look dashing. It will be glorious :D

He, he, well, when it happens, you can post an image of Alistair in the second one. :)

If you'll get to see that expression used somewhere else, you'll know that the person using it might have been lurking/posting here.
