I tried The Witcher and didn't get very far before I lost interest.  All you do is control Geralt's sword strikes, looting and leveling.  People call that roleplay?  Eh well.  I have accepted that even though I never played Baldur's Gate or those other games, I was just a dinosaur and didn't know it.

I actually think The Witcher has a better plot and world concept than Dragon Age.  The Witcher isn't a game that I'd replay over and over though since the three paths (The Other, The Scoi'teal or The Witcher) intersect with each other quite a bit.

Origins has hands down the most replay value of any game I have ever played.  Personally I feel that is because I got to essentially create my characters from scratch and give them their own personalties.

I enjoy a well told action rpg; I like playing on hard+ and using inventive combat tactics.  Yet I don't generally replay an action rpg more than twice regardless of how good it is.

Well, while I don't share the Zevran DLC enthusiasm, having new DLC for origins would be nice. I'm not even gonna get into DA2 at this point, too much speculation too early. And I was under the impression that SV said he didn't VO for DA2, not that he hasn't VOed something else?

The difference is, you had control over that Cousland or Amell's personality, mannerisms, manner of speech...etc. Especially if you do not take the dialogue options literally, but try to come up with different ways to say it as long as it fits what was written.

But who's to say the same won't apply to Hawke?  I don't like the VO or the dialgoue wheel either....in fact I loathe them.  But I think that saying we won't be able to "create" our character is a bit premature.

Because how Hawke talks, acts...etc is predetermined for each dialogue option, in addition to what emotion he would have. You can't rp him as having a suave voice for instance (I am assumign he isn't suave).
In Origins, one sentence could be said in many different ways that, while not realy relevent game wise as the response is the same, still gave you control over your character.

For instance, the line "Maker help us all". It could be said in a religious tone. But it could also be said in a rolling eyes kind of way. While it would still generate the same response (in RL, people don't always reply "approprietely" either), it gave us the freedom to imagine how our character would say it.

This would be absent in DA2. That doesn't mean we won't have some control over Hawke's character, as in whether he is more prone to be aggressive, flirtatious..etc. But it would still be Hawke and not our own character.

And that's not necessarily a bad thing, as I've said before. And yes, I am less worried about the dialogue wheel and voiced PC after the reassurances that were given and I am almost 100% sure it's going to be better than ME. But I do not think it will provide us the same amount of freedom as Origins did. But too much freedom can be detrimental for a story devs have in mind, so I udnerstand the decision.

I have read up on the title too, and that is being paraded as something that hinders roleplay. The title is what Hawke will become at the end, how and why, who knows? Just like that we all knew that the warden would defeat the blight in the end.

You're expecting it to be like the Witcher? Based on what exactly? Geralt is an extremely predetermined character. Something like Kotor is a more valid comparison imo. You're always Revan and you are always going to defeat Malak.

It was merely an example of another action rpg title.  Since I played World of Warcraft almost exclusively for five years I'm not up to date on the most current action rpgs.  I never played KotoR because I absolutely loath Starwars.

Regardless if you can chose Hawke to be a saint or the biggest ****** on the planet you're still playing a predetermined character.  Hawke is a man/woman that escapes Lothering somehow and ends up in the Freemarches.  We're going to be playing through his/her story.

I could care less about a Zevran DLC too.  I just wasn't very impressed w/ Leliana's Song.

Unless the other Twitter people have heard otherwise, he hasn't worked on anything since Awakening.  The only thing I saw him write was that he was speculating stuff he already recorded in the Origins sessions could be re-used.

A Zevran DLC about his time with Tamlen and the girl whose name I forgot could be interesting actually. But I personally want a Sten DLC.

I would be happy with anything that actually impacts my game. Like Rto, warden's keep, etc.

This is my problem- I don't enjoy the combat enough to bother with most games.  I keep telling my husband that I'm not really a gamer.  There are a few games that have been exceptions but generally that's true.  Staring at twitching figures on a screen is not a relaxing activity in itself without some major incentive.

I have no idea why I liked Fallout 3 as much as I did.  I wanted to find James.  When I realized that I wasn't going to find James for a while (I tried going to GNR with a baseball bat and a 10mm pistol... that didn't work out well), I almost gave up.  Same deal with DAO.  I can remember posting a comment on a blog review that it was too hard.  Alistair probably kept me going.  He has that effect.  Posted Image

But it would be fun!
We would get to see Sten with his funny buddies as they travel Ferelden, kill a few darkspwn, get ambushed. And then see how Sten kills the peasant family with his bare hands.
I really want to see his reaction to losing the sword. We never got to see an extremily mad Sten.

@ Sandi. Yes, I know.

Right-o. I've gotten used to doomsayers during the past weeks. I just thought that you meant that Hawke would have a set personality, like Geralt has.

Regardless if you can chose Hawke to be a saint or the biggest ****** on the planet you're still playing a predetermined character.  Hawke is a man/woman that escapes Lothering somehow and ends up in the Freemarches.  We're going to be playing through his/her story.

Well, yeah. As we do in most RPGs (including P&P). The only real difference in the story department (compared to origins) is that we have one starting point instead of six.

IIRC, didn't Zev get the most votes in the least favorite companion poll thread?

A Sten DLC I could get behind though.

As we see, forum input means jack-all when it comes to BW decision making.  I saw Gaider say something like "if we bring someone back it will be because we like them."  Whatever that means.

On the topic of the sexy templar:  This G.R.R. Martin novella I'm reading reminds me of that story about Alistair in the grand melee.  The protagonist is a good-hearted young hedge knight on the fringes of a big tournament.  He's also a virgin.  Posted Image  I haven't finished the story yet but I'm hoping he wins the tourney.  And... wait for it... his name is Ser Duncan!
