I want to play a female qunari.

I like how "an opportunity to explore different standards of beauty" translates into "opportunity to draw four pairs of d-cup ******"

(pardon the wording, it's a comment i read elsewhere that's making me snicker ever since)

It's cool artwork but I hope it not a true representation of in game. They are very...cartoony...and the dwarves kind of freak me out, especially the chick.Posted Image

The human female is giving me a decidely Barbie impression. She's the only character who seems to be envisioned as having no defined muscle. Tiny shoulders, averted gaze, hmmm.... That's no warrior. Not sure why she has a Dalish tattoo, either. She looks like she's ready to flee.

Have you played a dwarf in origins?

Her legs do seem to pack some muscle if you ask me. Regardless, this is concept art, which hardly ever resembles what the game really looks like.

But seriously, the fact that I won't be able to play a female qunari makes me a sad panda. I really like her look.

While we're at it, that female quanari sure looks like she was made for battle. I hope she proves Sten wrong in that not all female quanris are "priests, artisans, etc".

I did a DNF, but only up to Ostagar.

The Qunari & the dwarf look the best to me -- they look like they could actually fight. The human and elf females -- not so much. They even drew them like they were wearing invisible high heels!

Yeah, I think you were right, tmp. They're going to dial 'feminine' up to eleven. That generally means giant boobs and butt, proportionally, a waist that leaves no room for internal organs, and no muscles what so ever. And if the drawing is any indication, they'll make up somewhat broad shoulders in the first game with almost none in this one. I would much prefer to see a concept of the human female that looked like the femal Qunari, only shorter, and for the female qunari to be more muscled.
EDIT: Seriously, though. Why is the human female the only one in the picture with an 'I am helpless' pose?

Does that sound dirty since I wrote it on Smut Thursday?

It did. You are a dirty, dirty girl. Now go take a bath with Alistair.

And bring us pics of him in the water. We want proof he's been bathed !

Isn't the elf female standing in the same position?

So double entendre and innuendo count?  Yay!

Speaking of which, shouldn't it be Lamppost Thursday or something?

I don't have any bathing-beauty Alistairs, just an Eyebrow of Lurid Suggestion.  He's up to no good and he knows it.

In fact, he was up to no good- this is him saying "two birds with one stone" after Morrigan says that kissing HNF will make her sick.  Then, thanks to DahliaLynn, he proceeds to stick his tongue down HNF's throat.  He's a bad, bad man.

Wow you're right, I hadn't noticed that.

Suddenly the qunari are the sex symbols.  It's kind of funny.  Of course, my current PC is running a hot crush on Sten.

She's measuring his sword.

That is a gorgeous picture, by the lake! I never noticed the fog on the water before. I often get a little crush on Sten. Especially in those robes.

It really looks like they are. I mean, maybe the legs are placed differently but does how far apart the legs are really make or break a helpless position?

The elf may look helpless but it's not as much because her legs were both broken and shoddily grew back into the wrong place..

At least it's just early concept art. We all know how different DAO turned out from it's original art.

I think part of the humans not looking as strong is because they're the only ones not making a fist (it looks like they're holding hands behind her back!). As far as the art, it's just funny to me that the two girls are standing up on their toes in their invisible heels. But that's not a point against DA2 -- it's more eyerolling over art that turns women (unsurprisingly, since it's everywhere) into Barbies.

Edit: However, if they give us concept art with the women actually wearing high heeled shoes into combat, then I'm going to O_o.

One is facing forward, giving an impression of meeting whatever is there straight on. The other is partially turned away, eyes averted, and her hand raised. The legs are actually in a position of moving away from whatever the other figures are facing. It's a submissive posture.

Agreed, especially about the O_o. ;) And yeah, it's just concept art. The only thing meaningful about it is that it gives us some signals about how they're thinking about these archetypes.

Well, having stared at the shot a good bit this afternoon, I just don't know.  It's impossible to really tell anything.  The drawing style seems odd to me- limbs akimbo and oddly sized and shaped etc.  It makes me wonder, like a lot of the shots they've been putting out- are they trying to make the art look dorky???

Oh who knows.  These two kids need to find a room (or... a cave, I guess), and I'm headed to sleep.

Edit for unintentionally hilarious copying error:  I meant these two kids below, not Sten and my Amell.  But since it's funny I'll leave it.

Seriously?  It's not even a character.  It's just art showing model proportions.  Who cares?

As for people going on about the slim/curvy female builds, it's not like the male bodies are any less idealized.  Unless you think it's common for all men to walk around at ~5% body fat (when the average is actually closer to 20).  Of all the things to complain about so far in DA2, this is a nonissue.
On a side note, I'm definitely digging the female Qunari look.  Very Draenei-esque, which is always  a good thing.

So the thread is mildly dead and will likely be deader but...LadyD's commission is here! And it's adorable! Poor Alistair looks like he's going to have a heart attack. Posted Image
