Oh good, thanks for confirming that. I'm terrible with self-restraint so I had never waited to ask that post-LM before. It makes more sense as a mistress, though.Sandtigress wrote...

He is amazingly fun to banter with... it really caught me off guard. I was never too fond of the romance with him because it seemed so stereotypical to me, but he takes the most relentless teasing quite well--better than what I expected out of the personality I came to expect of Alistair my first playthrough.
Such as... "You grew up in the chantry... have you ever?"
"Ever what?"
"Sex?" His reply is pretty amusing--I honestly think he'd been sitting on that 'one-eyed basalisk' and 'lamppost' joke for a while.
And then when he's talking about being raised by dogs and you make fun of his body odor and breath--and he takes it in stride. That was a pleasant surprise too. What surprised me even more was when in that conversation, he asks about the PC's dreams, I replied, "only ones where I'm strangling you." And... +approval! It's just interesting--I really never expected him to have a snarkier sense of humor.
Anyway. That's my two-cents for the evening. Night all.
Haha, I think most people avoid jokey or not overly polite conversation options with him thinking he is going to respond negatively. His funniest moments are if you poke fun at him or go along with his jokes. Many people don't pick those lines because they think he'll get offended since he is percieved to be so whiny/sad/whatever and they miss out on a lot IMO.
His sense of humour is how I actually started liking him as a character. I went into the game blind, not knowing people were romancable. Unfortunately for most characters, I tend to be rather trolltastic or sarcastic and I was like hey! Someone who's the same! Yes, snark buddies FTW.
Then he kissed me and it was very QTF. But hey, it's nice having someone who isn't all that sensitive. I get sort of confused when people act like he's such a twelve year old emo kid- he tends to roll with the punches unless you're talking about something extremely important to him, which is... how all the other characters act. Some more so- yes Wynne, I'm looking at you and your crappy response to my request for griffons in my stories. It got to the point where I was so pissed off at most of the companions that I did a mage run through with only Shale, Dog, and Alistair in my party- everyone else got killed off or dismissed.

It does - I didn't think it fit all that well for my future queen HNF.
I only managed to hold off because she was very conflicted about the romance - she didn't want to be a Warden and clung to her duty as a noble to rebuild the Cousland line, and she didn't find out that Alistair was a prince until after two story-line quests. By that time, Wynne had convinced her that being a Warden wasn't so bad, and she considered herself a landless Warden who wasn't worthy for the future King. :-P
The two of them only got their act together at Goldanna's, just previous to the Landsmeet!

Awwww!! Ya know, Awakening (IF it wasn't backwards scripted epilogue slides), plus this...makes me think the mistresses are going to have it better than the Queens.
Why'd you think that? Just curious.
A combination of my queens epilogue slides comared with the mistress and warden endings...she went off all alone...
Isn't it the same epilogue slide in Origins for mistress and queen (they dropped the ball on that one, seriously)
As for Awakening.... yeah. I still don't know what to make of that, since it seems very unlikely the queen or king would just up and leave without anyone really caring beyond "Durrr they're continuing their adventures~~~ We're sure it's not the last we'll hear of them!11" Of course this is a non-issue for the Wardens riding off into the sunset endings >

And how... normal human beings act? I agree, the commentary about Alistair is very confusing. I'm not sure if I'd want to meet those people IRL. Then again, I'm sure they're normal people and very nice etc., they just have scripted expectations of what a male lead should be like, and once they get an image of the character in their head, that's all they see.Valentia X wrote...

No, not in my experience. HNF got a slide that said he was called away to Weisshaupt and hoped to soon be by her side. DEF got one that said that after a time he came to be with her and never left her side. She had said she was going to rebuild the Grey Wardens, though, so I'm not sure about a mistress who remains as chancellor. I will probably do that on this DEF run so I'll check it.yukidama wrote...

It's a lot of fun. I wanted to try crippling myself in a playthrough, and since I was already annoyed with most of my companions- Leliana was refused, Sten I ignored, Morrigan I sent away after killing Flemeth, Wynne I killed, Oghren I dismissed, and Zevran was killed on the spot. Having no rogues in the party, and no back-up mages, made the game interesting. I'd suggest to anyone. I did a similar thing later on, except that I was a rogue so I played an entire game with no mages. It was surprisingly fun.

Oh, my lone mistress character stayed on as chancellor (lol, my first run through that I rushed so I didn't know I could be queen as an HNF) so that is probably it the reason why. It gives you the speshal ~Anora was uncomfortable~ slide, which is especially hilarious since I always get her deposed. That slide is probably conditional to your staying in Denerim.

My HNF also didn't decide until late that she was going to marry him. She was ready to give him up for the kingdom, but changed her mind based on a mixture of political considerations (overhearing the nobles talking and realizing that his bid was failing) and mostly on getting her socks knocked off by him at the Landsmeet.

From the toolset it looks like there are some pretty sweet lines if you marry him to Anora, and remain his mistress. My elf mage obviously can't marry him, but he is clearly devoted to his LI. Anora+Alistair make a good ruling pair, and I could get some long awaited "in your face WITCH!" revenge on her. Of course with a conveniently placed save in case I chicken out.
Well, just don't stay on as chancellor. It ends up being that Alistair and Anora are liek totally kewliez awesome rulers and that your role is largely irrelevant though you stay in court for a time or whatever. I was just all "Errrrm, that never happened." It was only a test run though, so it got happily deleted and I reverted back to my normal save.

She asks you about Alistair and his jokes which she finds annoying and according to the VO she thinks he's a "weirdo". Then she says he reminds her of Cailan (VO: shrug, a bit of affection in her voice when she speaks of Cailan).

Agreed--I would usually play along, but I really didn't expect him to take full out teasing so lightly. Another example: "Oh, I see, so you lack the proper parts." to which he just laughs off. I suppose it just surprised me seeing how negatively he responds to Morrigan's teasing.

I had Ali duel Loghain, so no Eyelashes for him. It's better that way. Anora can go sulk in the Tower if that's what she wants to do.
And she could have had this, at least on paper. Silly cow.

BTW, on a different thread I saw this from the toolset: "Anora: Ignoring that the man looks so much like Cailan--my
recently-dead husband, if you'll recall--my main fear is that he might
govern like Cailan as well. (terse disapproval -- she wasn't all that fond of Cailan and is not fond at the thought of marrying a man just like him)". I thought that was interesting because it shows she didn't even think much of Cailan. It seems the only people she does think highly of are herself and her father, just like Ali says.
For those of you have access to the toolset, I'd be interested to see other VO notes on that conversation between the Warden prospective mistress and Anora. For instance, is there any indication of what she's thinking when she says "am I to have another husband whose eyes are elsewhere?"

I named the dog Cailan. It is amusing when Cailan brings me cakes and dirty pantaloons.
Yeah, I don't think that marriage will go to well. In the ending cinematic they both walk up to the stairs to throne for the coronation. Alistair reaches out and grabs Anora's hand and she pulls it away. It works out well politically though, I suppose.

Ok, o/t but since we were discussing it earlier... it did work to un-install Wings of Velvet and GW Runic Armor, make a game save on a new character, and then re-install it. Didn't work for the Shadow Warden Armor, though. That's going to make me sad if I make another rogue. I do like the new GW Runic shields and stuff, though.
I'm sorry it didn't work for you Addai
