You know my only complaint about Origins is Alistair doesn't have enough commentary. I always thought he'd say something at points like this...

Posted Image

Paedan totally ignores the fact Alistair is even a Warden. No wonder the poor guy has a identity complex. The only time I can think of that an NPC directly addresses Alistair is certain dialogue options with Caladrius. Even then Caladrius address him as the bastard that is soon to be King.

Yeah, even the confrontation with Loghain/Cauthrien/Howe is pretty much between them and the PC/Eamon, with Loghain mentioning stray bastards in passing and Eamon saying that Ferelden deserves a king of the Theirin bloodline. All things considered, Ali should take a much larger role at that point.

Heh, yes, and when you talk to Oswyn in Howe's dungeon and tell him you're there for the rightful king, he says, "Oh, Maric's bastard?"

Hellooo... standing right there....  did I mention he's going to be king?

Even at the Landsmeet unless you chose to spare Loghain Ali really doesn't have too much to say.  Poor guy... forced to be King and not even acknowledged most the time as being a Warden.

His lines in RtO aren't bad but him and Wynne flirting is just creepy.

It all sort of works to Alistair's character, though, his tendency to defer and self-deprecate.  He will tell your mabari that he's guarding one of the most important people in Ferelden, but doesn't consider himself that.

I suppose that's true enough.  Though it would be nice if he did have a little more NPC interaction, especially after he's hardened (which I always do).  I noticed while unlocking Reaver (a game I didn't follow up on) that he had a good bit to say aganist my PC's actions.  That made unlocking the speciality worth it in its self.

If you're using Extra Dog Slot you won't get dog banter.  The dog has to actually be one of the three companions to get banter dialogue.  He usually says it in Lothering unless you pick up Leliana and right away and put him into the modded slot.

I forgot about his reaction to defiling the ashes. Something about "remember what happened the last time you drank strange blood?" or something like that. Too funny.

Too bad that it's a plot mechanic to have Alistair stay on till the Landsmeet.  After watching the PC kill Leliana and Wynne over the Ashes that really should have pushed him over the edge.

Oh and let me just say... I'm not much for fanfiction generally but A Midwinter's Thaw is amazing.  I read up to chapter 8 in the wee hours of this morning.

This is one of the most emotional parts of the game for me as a human noble. You can see my pc trying to hold back killing Howe on the spot. Well written, it really enrages me.

Do you usually spare Cath and do Fort Drakkon or just kill her?  I think I'm going to just kill her this time around.

I always kill her. I didn't use to until she called me a churl with one of my mages. And her calling Howe the teryn really pisses me off for some reason. I wish I could run Erlina through when she calls him that too.  But I don't kill her until right before the landsmeet because I love having Sten rescue me from Fort Drakon.

Edit: If you mean killing her instead of being captured, I don't really attempt that unless I am a mage.

Oh, it's really good. Although I was a little disappointed by the last two chapters. I had the feeling nothing interesting was happening after the big revelation. The pacing is just a mite too slow now for my taste - but hey, chapter 23 and it's the first time I feel like complaining a bit. :innocent: That's a miracle.

I always let Cauthrien live. Maybe I'm a softie, but I can't bring myself to punish her for being everything I expect one of my subordinates to be. On my HNF anyway. Other character's fight her when rescuing Anora, but never before the Landsmeet. Even my thickest characters figure walking in coated with blood is not the *best* way to get things rolling.

No??  I often get that one in Lothering.  It's cute.

There have been a few times when I couldn't convince Cauthrien to stand down right before the Landsmeet. I really wish I could bring it up when we walk in: "BTW, Loghain, your lackey just attacked us right before we came in here, is that a Landsmeet tradition I don't know about...? PS. We killed her."

This would be slightly more impressive as it's usually just Alistair and my PC.

I like her, but it depends on my character's mood.  The way she speaks to you and to Alistair really begs an ass-kicking.  OTOH, if you can talk her down, her "would that I had died at Ostagar" is wrenching.

What I don't get about her is that she is despising Alistair and your PC for being the very thing that she and Loghain are- commoners (or disgraced noble, for a HN character) who are rising to power due to sheer force of will, skill, and luck.

It's alot like that ONE person you just can't get along with for anything. Because they are too much like you. My grandmother and I were like that, like when you try to put the wrong 2 sides of a magnet together.

I let her live too but only because the rescue-quest is too funny to pass it on. With my HNF I had Alistair rescued me for the first time (felt strange to leave him out of the party for it, though). His hissy-fit at Anora when she confessed Eamon that she had thrown the PC to the wolves is priceless.

Angry Alistair is hot. <3
