Alistair: I can't believe it worked.
Morrigan: Me too. Your acting skills are horrible.

I like her, but it depends on my character's mood. The way she speaks to you and to Alistair really begs an ass-kicking. OTOH, if you can talk her down, her "would that I had died at Ostagar" is wrenching.LadyDamodred wrote...
I always let Cauthrien live. Maybe I'm a softie, but I can't bring myself to punish her for being everything I expect one of my subordinates to be. On my HNF anyway. Other character's fight her when rescuing Anora, but never before the Landsmeet. Even my thickest characters figure walking in coated with blood is not the *best* way to get things rolling.
What I don't get about her is that she is despising Alistair and your PC for being the very thing that she and Loghain are- commoners (or disgraced noble, for a HN character) who are rising to power due to sheer force of will, skill, and luck.
When does she give you 'Would that I had died at Ostagar'?

If you talk her down in the Landsmeet chamber. She will either say that or something like "I never knew that duty could taste so bitter." Edit: I think she actually says "I wish that I had died at Ostagar." I'm bad at remembering precise words.LadyDamodred wrote...

I never heard that since I always kill her at Howe's, but now I like her even more! Damn why can't I conscript her?Addai67 wrote...

That should really be an option in Awakening if you passed the persuade check.

P.S. Lady, since you're here... I wanted to mention something about your response to my question of whether everyone spends more time writing fanfiction than playing the game. I know it could sound like I was giving 'tude, but really I was just curious. I absolutely agree with you that a creative outlet is a good thing. I'm just surprised because it seems like everyone talks about their fanfiction almost as readily as they talk about their game. I don't hang around gaming circles much so I was curious whether this was a common thing.
Oh, I didn't think you were giving 'tude at all! I don't know how it is with others, but for me, any form on entertainment comes with me immediately doing stuff with it in my head. For RPGs, especially awesome ones like DA, it's especially easy. The fanfic that I do tends to be directly related to my games, my "canon" game in particular. The two are basically intertwined. I don't know if this is common, however.

That happens if she's not solo but Loghain's alive but I guess that wouldn't really come up in your games, now would it?sylvanaerie wrote...
My poor ears...how many have put Anora alone on the throne at the Landsmeet since installing the new mod/patch? She shows up in Redcliffe castle (Plus). She says Alistair's King lines as Queen (Plus). Alistair doesn't pull a concussion thing where he gives his king lines when you talk about the ritual with Morrigan (Plus). Then you get to Denerim and you see Anora in armor...and she opens her mouth and OMG!!!! My ears are STILL bleeding! She is SO BAD at that speech. I will NEVER ever ever put her on the throne solo again.

That speech. It makes the very earth weep with secondhand embarrassment. Giving a "rallying" speech and then going back to her cave until it's all over... Unless she plans on fighting and leading the army (srsly, why the armor?) she can kindly shut up and step over there ---->

I overheard a bit of that speech on my husband's game (he likes Anora... go figure... please don't take this as indication of his taste in women LOL) and I didn't think it was bad. I mean, it's Anora, yes. But not worse than usual Anora blather.

LOL! Since we're talking about Anora, that would make more sense with her.ejoslin wrote...
Hmmmmm. Looking at Cauthrien, I see an interesting mistake. One of her persuade checks depends on "high poison" instead of "very high persuade." Someone was zipping through that.

I just think her voice cannot handle the shouty bits at all. This is a point at which having her and Alistair say the same dialogue doesn't pan out, as his voice is infinitely better suited for a rousing speech while she comes across screechy.

587!! Now I'm convinced I might be nuts, but I'm still going through with my current plan to have my 3 or 4 Permanent characters with their "perfect" endings. Might as well go for 1000 right?

I tend to do that, too. If I'm doing a story that just involves a situation but isn't Origin-dependent then I'll use my canon DN (though there have been some origin-specific stories about her) whereas if it does depend on an origin obviously I'll use them. I've written a DC because it involved Leske realizing betraying her is a bad idea when she tells him about some of her accomplishments recently (notably all the dragon-slaying), an EM who simply doesn't feel like getting involved with Jowan's problems, a CE so I could write something about Shianni, and a DE so she could get confused about which origin she was as well as several HN for such things as a reunion with Nathaniel, dealing with frustration that unhardened Alistair won't talk about their relationship (surprisingly a parody), and discussing with Fergus that they've somehow managed to basially have control of all of Ferelden through becoming Queen and Teyrna of Gwaren.LadyDamodred wrote...

Of course, if the fanfiction I've seen is any indication, Cousland's are most people' canon.

Your canon game is whichever game you feel is what actually happened. So even if you've played both genders of all six origins, whichever game you felt was the best is your personal canon.Lady Jess wrote...
I am really confused about "canon" I understand that it is usually what the devs have decided the correct ending is, where I get lost is how players can have their own canon ...sorry if it's a stupid question but, I mostly just play the games. I'm only just starting to learn some of the other surrounding "lingo" so to speak.

Good to know. I agree with most fic having Couslands as canon. I fully admit to being guilty of this. It could be several reasons, but it seems like the most popular origin on the forums as well. But I could be misjudging things.
I suppose I could make up for my contribution to the Cousland/Alistair fanfic world by doing by Tabris/Zevran one that's knocking about in my head, hm?
