Oh, man! I just found the best/worst VO comments ever. Unfortunately, they aren't Alistair related, but they're incredible nonetheless. From the HN's confrontation with Howe:

Howe: Well, look here. Bryce Cousland's little spitfire, all grown up and still playing the man.(Bemused. "I'm surpised to see my old dead friend's ****** of a daughter show up here.")
Howe: Your parents died on their knees, your brother's corpse rots in Ostagar, and his brat was burned on a scrap heap along with his Antivan **** of a wife.(Itemized, trying to crush the player with the weight of his cruelty.
Howe: I never thought you'd be fool enough to turn up here. But then I never thought you'd live, either. (Staredown. "I thought I killed you. Even if I didn't, I thought you were a loser.")
Howe: Is this about your family? Still? But I have done so much more than wipe your name from Ferelden memory. (Bemused, then very threatening "You're still stuck on that murdering your parents thing? But I hurt you so much more than that.")

I'm glad you weren't offended.  A lot of people on this thread seem to write it.  I have nothing against the concept of fanfiction, it's just that when I've read it, it's mostly been eye-bleedingly bad.  I used to do Tolkien MUSH, which is basically all fanfiction, but when I'd look on the internet to see what people were doing with the canon characters I was playing, I'd come across all sorts of horrors.

Some of the Howe exchange doesn't make sense to me.  You get a Persuade with him where you say "I'm a Grey Warden."  Why does his face and voice change when you say this? Did he not know you were a Grey Warden??

I think he's impressed that you go that route rather than grovel or bring up your family. Of course, now that we know his father left the family to join the Wardens, it might be a small emotional reaction to that.

This is awesome though (because it admits Bryce is awesome):

Howe: There it is. Right there! That damned look in the eye that marked every Cousland success that held me back. (Player got under his skin, he sees the aspect that made the player's father great. "There's that goddamn twinkle I thought I was rid of!")

Howe: It would appear that you have made something of yourself after all. Your father would be proud.(Grudging respect. "I see in you what made your father great. In another time I'd have been proud too.")

Uggggh, that man can reduce me to incoherent anger better than anyone else in the whole game!!!  I'm really happy I didn't get the "parents died on your knees" bit, or the "mother kiss my feet" lines - though I don't know why that is.  Does it depend on what you say to him?

I love killing Howe, I will admit...

Yeah, it's directions for the voice actors. Notes detailing what the character is thinking/the way something should be said to the person who would be voicing them.

When I made my first HNF, I hated him the very SECOND I heard his voice. I'd never paid attention in my other game (mage...she didn't care about howe). I knew as soon as he spoke and my insta-hate adrenaline kicked in it was Tim Curry. He's had that effect on me since I watched Congo.

This kind of shows that Howe's friendship to Bryce was geniune at first, if not excluding jealousy.

I think that you only get the line about Fergus/Oriana/Oren if you talked to Loghain at Ostagar (that changes the dialogue when Howe/Loghain/Cauthrien confront you at Eamon's). The last line, about making Eleanor kiss his feet, is in response to you threatening to kill his wife and son/daughter.

  Non-Cousland fics need all the support we can give them.  Of course, a lot of the non-Cousland fics tend to be angsting about how they put Alistair on the throne so now they're a mistess or dumped anyway...maybe it's just that the Alistair fangirls write most of the fiction? I know 'Alistair is solo King because HNF didn't want to force a marriage on him so got dumped and years later (possibly after he has son named Duncan with more fertile but soon dead Queen) gets back with her since she's still single and he still loves her' is a sub-genre of its own.

That's why you go find a rec page and then once you find authors you like you see what they like and you're more likely to find something decent.

Thanks! So, it's basically what I'm trying to do with my fresh start girls then. Each get the ending I think fits. And yeah, I completely did (well it's a WIP) the cousland/queen fanfic. I'm hopelessly blocked though, it may never end.

Hmm, okay, that would explain why I never saw the last line, because my HNF had gotten over a lot of the vengeance business after Zathrian.  But I'm almost positive I talked to Loghain...it would have been OOC for her not to.  Hmm....

What do you have to say to get the option to persuade/intimidate him?

Either say: "You won't forget. Their memory drove me to you." (this is if he feeds you the line about Loghain telling you your family is gone and forgotten) or "Glad to disappoint you. It won't be the last time."

Did my girlfriend just dispose of bodies down the Chantry well? Best not look too reproachful, or I might be next.
