She would have done it anyway, though. Maric suggests she leave the Wardens, and she outlines why it's not possible. *shrugs* It's really very sad. I don't place the blame with the GW on that one. In fact, I'm rather surprised they let her place the baby where she wanted. They didn't have to do that.

??  They could just take the baby from her?  How so?  If this is the case, I might have to start hating the GWs as much as the Chantry.

Edit:  Argh, top of the page again.  LOL  DeviantArt to the rescue, and my favorite fanart of Alistair thus far... I like all of lydlyd's stuff.

How could she have stopped them from taking the baby? If they had decided to put the baby somewhere else, she would have had no choice but to acquiese. I suppose she could have tried running, but that would lead to a pretty miserable life for both her and her child.

I think that probably has more to do with single Grey Wardens, or essentially any Grey Warden who doesn't have a plan in place to make sure the child is cared for. I can't imagine the Wardens being tolerated if a guy managed to get his wife pregnant after the fact and then they tried to take the kid away from her. Mage or no mage, someone's getting set on fire for that sort of shenangian.

But why would the Wardens be seizing Warden children like the Chantry does to mages' children?  I don't get why they would do that.  Unless they want yet another reason why no one would ever want to be a GW.

Hard to take care of a child if you're a single parent fighting the darkspawn. :/ It's priorities.

Because it is a distraction. I think Grey Wardens who get married/have children are not as common as maybe Awakening led us to believe. It it hammered home to you repeatedly that GW are supposed to give up their lives when they become Wardens. There will always be exceptions, and, being human, they will look for comfort and love. But duty comes first. *shrugs* Harsh, yes, but understandable.

I always wondered how much darkspawn they'd face outside of a Blight. Darkspawn raids seem to be very rare, so rare the surface population believes them gone forever. What does a Grey Warden do when there's no Blight? And why would it require your children to be sent away?

*really really really REALLY needs to get those books* :crying::crying::crying:

@Addai- I forgot to comment on your screenie earlier. I'm used to seeing Alistair in medium to the heaviest set of armor, so seeing him in light armor is a refreshing change. It's hard picturing him as a rogue though... I tend to associate light armor to rogues. xD

Curiously enough, I discovered a couple of voice clips of Alistair doing stealth. It's really quite endearing. xD

Alistair: I'm... Mr. Stealth...!
Alistair: You want me to what? BE QUIET?

Oh, it might not be much but here's a little I made a good hour ago, dedicated to you guys. Because you're all awesome possum. 8D

We're so not fooled. That innocent chantry boy act, we can see right through it. He's a sneaky, stealthy little templar.

Heh, well it's really because my PC does not yet have enough str to wear that set, but it has awesome stats, so why waste it?  Especially when the male NPCs look so damn hot in black?

The books are good, I do recommend them.

LOL!  That is adorable.  So maybe there was an option at one point for warriors to take stealth?

What the heck! I can't find it in the toolset now! But I think what he says is "Am I in trouble?" Or something if he is caught stealing. It's cute.

Here is lydlyd's thread in Community Creations.  I'm a gushing fan of hers.  When I first saw her stuff, I thought she was doctoring actual photographs, but apparently it's a graphics program that uses photo-realism.  The tattoo is a Grey Warden tattoo, and she explains that it symbolizes the fact that the GWs are "marked."

And yet even in this setting I would think that regular soldiers get to keep their own children, even if they have them fostered in the case of being single parents.  I don't think it's understandable at all, but perhaps this just touches a nerve.  I know it's one of the things I felt most strongly about with the mage character I just played, the fact that she was taken from her parents.

@Addai- Yeah, probably. xD They must've taken all sorts of voice clips for each character just in case they decided to switch a few things up on the last minute.

@klarabella- How can you say that about Alistair? He's... he's the soul of innocence!

See? :crying:

@cmessaz- Ah! I heard that voice clip! "Uhh... Does that mean I'm in trouble?" is the line, I think. xD I remember seeing a list of battle cries in the toolset before, but I forgot where they are. Dx

Addai- those pictures are truly awsome. I almost see Zev in a whole new light. And the Alistair ones, ahem, I'll just leave that one alone. The Isolde and Conner one is actually really touching to me. (Even though Isolde makes me angry)

I felt the same way the first time I played a HNF pc and romanced Alistair, made him king with me beside him and the shyt goes off n sacrifices himself.  I couldn't believe that no one had anything to say, Anora pist me off the most though.  It's like what she did have to say about Alistair was an after thought.  I wanted to slap her and say the only reason why your here is because the man that rightfully belongs on this throne died to save us all, you ungrateful bytch.

Lol sorry about the rant.  That whole scene just pisses me off.

EDIT:  I should add I've never been able to have Alistair with me in the end if I decided not to do the DR anymore lol.

I see this tossed around alot, and I feel I should point something out.

Quite a few companions can be killed. Zen, Lel, Shale, so on.. And when they die, no-body says anything. I was quite upset about killing Lel on my Dalish Elf run-through. She had her up at something like 90 and everything, but the whole Maker thing made her kill a friend, so she was quite destrout by that.. and no-body said anything. So why should Alistair be any different? Because he took the final blow?

The fact is, not many people were terribly closed to him.. It's like hearing about a neighbour who passed away. Are you sad? Probably, but it's not that effecting of you. You carry on, because that's life for you. And now combine the whole minor sadness with the fact that your nation was just saved(doesn't matter who by, you as the Grey Warden was leading the group. In many eyes, that mean's you are responsible for the Archdemons death. Alistairs death is just like.. collateral. A good comparison could be if any random party members can die defending the gates. Should we mourn them in a time of great celebration, too?). I mean, I agree, if you were romancing him, people could be more sympathetic about it.. but, the only argument I can come up with that is, it's a celebration. It's not just your celebration, it's everyone in the nation. The nation has just been saved, so I doubt many people are thinking about how you lost Alistair, 'cause it's very likely other people lost people too.

Anyway, turned into a mild wall of text, but it's something to think about. When other party members die off, they don't get mentioned, so why should Alistair? :P

Alistair dying pisses people off and gets billboarded because we Posted Image Alistair! Besides the fact that he's AWESOME  and he's supposed to be KING! Posted Image

Alistair can be killed the same amount of times as any other character - yes, as in once in a playthrough, but you can't ask him to leave the party, even if his disapproval is at -100 - the ONLY thing that will make him leave is letting Loghain live. Morrigan will nick off if you annoy her enough and come back at the end for the offering of the ritual. She is important, but the story would happen without her - just as it would happen without any of your other characters EXCEPT Alistair - the whole landsmeet would be a waste of time if you didn't have anyone to offer as an alternative monarch to Anora and Loghain. So a huge chunk of story just wouldn't happen without Alistair there, which in my opinion makes him the second most important character in the game - after the PC, because obviously the PC is the facilitator for all of this. I mean, technically it could all happen without the PC as well - it just wouldn't make a particularly interesting game :).

I agree completely.

Alistair: Love, I have a big favor to ask of you. I need you to travel to Amaranthine and--
PC: No.
Alistair: But we need--
PC: No.
Alistair: :crying:
PC: ...Fine, I'll do it.
