I missed a lot of conversation while I was sleeping...

Yeah, I can understand the comparison of Oghren to what a nonhardened Alistair would be like if he lost his F!PC romance.  Regardless, Felsi didn't leave him persay, she threw him out.  If he truly cared about her than he would of tried to work it out.  Personally I don't think Oghren ever cared about Felsi.  I think she was just a cheap replacement for Branka.  He even says to the PC that (if you do his side quest) he/she helped reunite him w/ the only woman that will tolerate him.  She was a shoulder for him to cry on and someone to warm his bed.

Yes, I've gone through all of Oghren's dialogue/side quests in both Origins and Awakening.  I've given him a fair chance but I'm still of the mind that Oghren is on the dick list.

As for Alistair's ending being tragic because of the DR.  I suppose it's all a matter of opinion.  If you're rping your HNF as a virgin than I suppose I can see that PoV.  If the HNF had previously slept w/ other people or had the threesome w/ Isabella than I don't see it as being such an issue.  I don't think 15 minutes of fame w/ Morrigan in exchange for the rest of your lives is that high of a price to pay.  Then again I probably don't have the best moral compass considering what I do for a living.

Thanks for the link to the Blood Dragon armor reskin.  I thought that armor was absolutely hideous but now I'll actually use it.

I never thought the DR was tragic. It's a means to an end, my PC knows his heart wasn't in it, if for no other reason than the pain on his face when he says "No, i just can't do it..." during the conversation.

I actually WAS going to make her queen on Valora's playthrough this time (since I really don't care to redo awakenings) but that speech was a deal breaker for me and doing the Landsmeet with unhardened Alistair, he didn't want the throne but hearing her admit she would have been a douche to him if she had been chosen I just couldn't go through with it.

Well maybe on my mage this time. ExTemplar Alistair and Kira may just run off and be Gray Wardens together. Maybe they can even hide who they are most of the time.

Fame is such a 2 edged sword...

See, I guess that is where our opinions are different. I always thought there was a little attraction between Alistair and Morrigan, so it's sort of a secret dream come true for both of them.

Actually, from what I see most people absolutely hate the mistress scenario. I find I'm one of the few people who doesn't really mind it. Not that it's a spectacular ending, but there's more than one way to play it. I've done it once, and my PC's thought process is that she's done too much and given up so much that she's not going to toss aside the only person she really gives a damn about. She'll sacrifice some dignity to stay with the person she loves, and since being queen is distasteful to her, the other woman can have it. She'll stay on to advise Alistair, not just as a chancellor, and not just as the one who loves him most (and whom he loves most) but because she'll be the only one in court with his best interest in mind. It's not a picture perfect ending but I suppose to that particular PC, the alternative is much worse.

I personally can't stand it, but then, I won't accept second place from *anyone*, real life or role-playing.  I've done the "run off" ending (and plug in the angst about the DR myself for that, though none of my wardens has been terribly angsty) and am working up my "Queen Cousland" one now. (Though I'm having a serious case of wanting another DW warrior... :innocent:  )

Holy crap, you are just like me! I am currently contemplating starting her over to be DW warrior.

OMG this would actually be tolerable to look at.  I have to esc most of his cutscenes cause I can't stand his "i've been kicked by a mule" face.  Plus this man looks like he is in his 50s and isn't wholly unattractive...though as soon as he opens his mouth I would go right back to UGH KILL IT!!! mode.

I didn't want to admit that on the Ali fangirl thread, but Alistair's VO wasn't great for that speech. Still it was better than Anoras. Martin Septim gave a much better speech in Oblivion.

If it makes you feel better (and it can't change your perception), the toolset indications are pretty consistent in stating that there isn't any attraction between Alistair and Morrigan. Not even hate-lust. They're just two people who don't get along who are forced to travel together and they deal with it by being antagonistic towards one another.

Not the face of a man off to engage in a secret dream come true:

Going off what i've read in the edit notes in the Toolset, it seems more like a relationship of pure unadulterated hate between them both.

At the end, Alistair is glad to see the back of her. Even when he sleeps with her, the notes say he feels flabbergasted about the idea of sex with Morrigan.

I've never understood the sex appeal of Loghain either. I remember some people swooning over Loghain's voice but I can't place anytime I've ever heard that actor's voice before. They should of had Sean Connery do Loghain, that would of been beyond epic.

I like the Wings of Velvet, very pretty and not too horrendously game breaking stats.  And there is that beautiful evening gown looking thing that you get with IA in Eiriks chantry chest.

Okay not armor...but I am a mage, I don't weild swords and wear heavy armor. I wasn't trained for that. Thats for the grunts like Sten and Alistair!  I'd rather have something that doesn't weigh me down if I get tossed down by an Ogre's blow and I can GET back up again!  It makes sense for me not to wear metal. That can get HEAVY!

See, to me, it is immersion-breaking to have my mage running around in an evening gown.  Without something like the Repulsion Field from Awakening (which I Posted Image, BTW), she is getting hit, and without any kind of armor, she should be dead.

Weapons, that's a different story.  I'm going to roleplay that Alistair is teaching her swordfighting (double-entendre as you will!), so by late-game when I have the AW stuff built up, I'll have her switching from staff to weapon occasionally.  On my last AW, I mostly used staff and spellcasting anyway, but if you don't have a sword how do you get a sweet kill shot like this?

Posted Image

I think with this one, I'm going to have her dual-wield, however, and maybe even dual-dagger which is a little more reasonable for a slender elven woman than longsword and shield.  Spellweaver is a great sword, so I'd be giving up those stats, and you don't have any access to things like Momentum and Riposte, but I'd like to try it and see how it works.

I agree, even though it'll probably get us both run out of this thread for heresy ;). I think Steve Valentine, in particular, could have presented it better - it's the only place I felt let down by *any* Alistair line deliveries. I like the visual on Anora giving the speech, but the VA could have been better.

I also think I may be using the prank gifts to keep him in "Your desire is my command" territory (*melt*), since I'm currently on the 360 and modless. *sigh* :) You know, just skim a tiny bit of approval off to get him off that icky "Something you need..." intro.

OMG the brain explosion that would have occured at my home would be heard all the way to Fiji.  I couldn't reconcile the level of hate I would have if he had a voice over from Sean Connery (who has to IMO STILL be one of the sexiest men alive). He's like what...100? and still has it!Posted Image

Actually it's one of two places I felt that his VO fell flat. The other was when he is presenting you in the post-coronation as the Hero of Ferelden.

"remains with us ssssteeeaalllllllllllluuuuuuuhhh.."

Uh, what? Really?

@Addai Fiona was more of an exception to the rule as far as typical mages go. In almost all stories, games and movies mages have always worn robes or light armor. They're also usually quite far back from the actual battle field. Look at the way Wilhelm would find a spot over looking the battle field than rain death upon his foes in TST.

I'm debating starting over my HNF because I don't a like a couple of the mistakes I made or starting an Arcane Warrior. Choices...

As far as the mistress thing goes, it fits best with my mages. They never expected to get married anyway, or even fall in love. So what they find with Alistair is above and beyond anything they thought possible. They are willing to keep him in whatever capacity they can. My HNF couldn't accept that. She knows that if only they weren't Grey Wardens, Alistair could marry her openly and it breaks her heart. She would rather not have to live with that pain every day, and so she completely understands and agrees with Alistair. It tears her heart out, but there you go.

And as far as saying he should be allowed to marry whoever he wants anyway and that's not how it works in the real world and he should tell the banns to stfu or gtfo.... No. The nobility, as a whole, will not accept an elven or mage queen. They won't. I think they're wrong and short-sighted, but that doesn't change the truth of it. At the moment Alistair breaks up with you, he is a very new, very untried king. He doesn't have the authority yet to be able to tell everyone else to deal with it. Maybe if he had time, if he could wait until his position was solidified, he could force the issue. But that's one thing neither of you really have.

Breaking up with you is awful for him. He hates it, but he cannot see another way out of the situation. He does it when he feels he is strongest to spare both of you even more pain. Props to him for doing that b/c none of my characters were strong enough or selfless enough to do it.
