For what it's worth, Loghain has the best reaction to seeing/recruiting the dog in Ostagar. Wynne is second place and Alistair is last, mainly because he sucks for not being a fan of dogs. The animal lover in my squees at Loghain's enthusiasm. I can dig up screenshots for Loghain since I know many aren't going to let him live at Landsmeet. Will post soon.

That's another OOC thing then in RTO, because he seems to like the dog quite a bit in the vanilla game.

What!  Alistair loves Dog in Origins.  Ugh, people were really sleeping in RtO.  Makes me almost glad there were hardly any Origins companions in Awakening, if that's the continuity we can expect.

Edit:  That should have been Morrigan's line.  Frustrating that they just arbitrarily decided someone had to disapprove, just like Zevran arbitrarily disapproves of giving Cailan a pyre.

That's what I thought.

Actually, I am curious. I have done RtO with Loghain and Alistair. Do they still have anything to say if you don't take Wynne with you? (Just interested as I really hate her in RtO - she is a total cow to Loghain, and with Alistair, there's that horrible, horrible thing she says at the end *retch*).

Yes, if you take any three of them ALONE, they have completely different lines. Wynne, by herself, is actually pretty cool. I found her surprisingly non-santimonious (from what she normally is). I don't have the Wynne hate that some others do, but I thought this was one of her better written moments when she was alone. I would definitely go back with her alone. Her coupling up with Alistair is just odd at the end.

I found my Loghain screenshots. Going to post them in a few.

And I thought Alistair's reaction to the dog was on par with when you first get the dog (when he runs up to Alistair and Morrigan while traveling). He does grow to love the dog, but the first reaction is dubious.

no you get no disapproval from Al for taking Dog. On my last trip through RtO I took Al, Dog and Wynne (yea I hate cougar Wynne but just do the kill, grab the helm and run for the tunnel) and when you regard the body and decide to pyre Cailan Dog does the mournful howl I thought was just the perfect eulogy. My HNs are the only ones I take back to Ostagar. The elves could give two hoots and a holler about Cailan.

When you are a human noble you already have dog, I guess I'm confused.

I've TAKEN dog, but if you don't get dog in the beginning, you can pick him up in Ostagar, right? And Alistair dissapproves of that?

LOL Sorry i guess I misunderstood the question ...I always have Dog already when I got to RtO.  In fact with the dog slot mod he goes everywhere with me.

Alistair still has some chatter, and as I believe others already said, Dog has some touching "chatter" as well.

Leave the old bovine in camp.

??  No he's not.  He tells you that he's chosen you, that that's how mabari work and that it's called imprinting, and then defends him from Morrigan's snark ("he's not mangy!")

On a side note: I find it kind of a bummer if your a HNM and marry Anora, Fergus does have a line about your marriage.  But there's no such line for the HNF.

Really? That's odd. I would have expected the elder brother to be more concerned about his little sister's relationships than his little brother's. Then again, this is the guy who calls the HNF a "saucy minx" if she announces that she has someone waiting for her in bed, so maybe not.

If you want to see this line for a femwarden, go to my mod and download the fergus module in the optional files -- it's standalone!  He actually DOES have a line there you see.  I just learned this myself.

Edit: drinking coffee here but functioning on 3 hours sleep -- I'm talking about the post-coronation talk with Fergus, you can talk about the wedding as a femwarden as well.

lol, old bovine being Wynne, right? I don't want to dislike her, but I just can't bring myself to like her. And the Alistair waking up next to her comment makes my stomach hurt.

The following is when ONLY Loghain is with you. (No Wynne.)

If you say to leave the body up:

I don't have screenshots for when you say to give the king a pyre, but here's the dialogue:

Loghain: "Sure, throw roses and wax poetic about how great of a leader he would have been, had he not thrown himself on the swords of the advancing darkspawn."
PC: "Would you rather we just leave him here?"
Loghain: "As a symbol of the darkspawn's triumph? Don't presume you know so much about me. "
Loghain: "My preference would be to throw him over the edge to be forgotten. Let him go down in history books as just another casualty in a long and bloody war."
PC: "You have said enough, Loghain. Now light the fire."
Loghain: "As you command, Grey Warden."

He's one messed up puppy thats for sure. He and my dad would have been great drinking buddies. I hate Loghain *sigh* and hate him even more now.

You kind of see the true dislike he really does have for Cailan.

Hard to think he would treat Maric's son in such a manner.

I always give him a pyre. He was an idiot, but he was a King also regardless.

I sort of feel sorry for Loghain, after speaking with him in camp after the landsmeet. I sort of found a respect for him that I didn't have before. However, I always execute him unless I'm HNM. And the only reason I don't is because Alistair still refers to himself as king after the landsmeet even though I am!

Exactly. I just knew he'd want to give him a pyre, but I guess I should have known better.

The only time I come remotely close to even considering liking Loghain is when he talks about mabari.

To be honest the thing that got me the most was not telling me to throw Cailan over the side or him getting angry over Cailan's dealings with Orlais (which, considering his past and his being Anora's father I feel it is justified) but when he says he'd do everything again, even knowing what he knows now.

If I recall correctly he says it in response to Wynne when she's being all preachy. I just hate that he doesn't really seem to regret anything he did, considering how hard he failed imo.

I always give Cailan a pyre. Leaving him to the wolves and darkspawn just doesn't seem right on any character.

And I understand Loghain's contempt for Cailan, but meh, I don't get how he's cool with leaving Maric's son for the wolves. Even if Cailan was an idiot, he was still Maric's son. It's not like anyone except your party is going to see the pyre.
