It's like if Alistair were a genie.More amusing was right-clicking him and getting the "Your desire is my command" line while his face was stuck like that.

I think the other response you get, where he can say "of course" when you ask about the whole racial difference thing is way more in line with his character and what he is actually trying to convey with "especially because of that."
This is basically a real world issue, too. If you're dating someone "because" they're a specific race or "exotic", it is usually some hardcore objectification... and, er, racist. That goes beyond having a type.
Here's an experiment, my brothers. Next time you're on a date, when she asks you what made you ask her out, respond, "Well, I'm sort of in a black chicks phase right now."
Lasers will shoot out of her eyes and disintegrate you. Worse, you probably won't get a second date.

Even though I know she doesn't mean to be, the fact she's never actively thought about her prejudice towards the elven race (hence racism) - or the dwarven one for that matter with that stupid ladder comment - doesn't mean she's not racist. She's just not aware that she is and she won't immediately go 'oh, you're right! I do think of elves differently. Not that that is brought to my attention I will never do it again.' As is the case in real life, she'll make the effort and it will be a long-term with the occasional slip-up from time to time. I just know that if someone I had recently met needed me to make them see that they were racist towards me or sexist then I wouldn't just write them off but I wouldn't want to date them although I know you've said you don't have that problem as long as they are making that effort.People have the knee-jerk reaction "racist!" because of what she ultimately ends up saying. But really, it's just a sign of her ignorance and upbringing, not a sign of any cruelty or prejudice inside her heart.
That's worse?Lasers will shoot out of her eyes and disintegrate you. Worse, you probably won't get a second date.

So . . . do you believe that Alistair would "indulge" in his fetish without loving your avatar as a person?
I mean . . . if you don't trust him that much then that's your business.

I really cannot agree with you, as I have actually been in that situation in the real world. Admittedly, I am a very forgiving person, but I really don't see Leli as racist (or otherwise prejudiced towards the poor, which is what it's really about).
As for the ladder comment, so what? I'm really damned short, I would have laughed at that comment.
I'm not going to argue the point, I've said what I feel, and I feel I am right.

Lol, well, I don't think they're broken up. She just told him she didn't want to and ~there will be another time~. Well, there's no commitment yet so maybe

My self-esteem is very delicate.
I would like to point out that being called out on being accidentally racist is not the worst or most embarrassing thing in the world. People accidentally make assumptions all the time, they just need to recognize and learn from their mistakes. Within reason. Don't be a ******. I always really liked that Leiliana was eager to learn more and understand different cultures.

Well, just because he doesn't intend it that way doesn't mean that the history and current social situation does not exist. Again, I don't think Alistair intended that line in a "ELF HAWTTTT OMG I WANT TO BANG YOU" way at all, but it wasn't really the best thing he could have said. Especially in the case where the character might be having perfectly legitimate doubts about starting a relationship with a human. It was just a bad word choice there and I don't think being upset and wondering just what he means by that is being melodramatic.

Well,
(disclaimer: this is from a male PoV), the way I initially took that
line, aside from the fact that he's had "bad experiences" with humans,
was that he liked her for being who she was, exactly as she was.
The PC is expressing insecurity over the racial difference, and
he's trying to reassure her that he thinks she's perfect the way
she is, and wouldn't want her to be anything else. At least that's
what I got from it on the surface.
of saying that. Thanks for that PoV. That is completely believable
because my husband would give me the same explanation as well if
I bounced it off of him.
Imagining that in his voice is extremely lulzy.yukidama wrote...

Very tired.
Lemme attempt a rephrase.
I know how I feel. While I find myself continually confused by others reactions to that conversation, to the point that it bothers me, but I have said my peace, and I'll respect your opinions. There is no point in going back and forth about it. It would be senseless, as I will obviously not be convincing anyone here, and no one will be changing my mind for a certainty.

I just think it was a very poorly worded statement and the PC should be able to react to it. I don't think he's being malicious at all and he just put his foot in his mouth there. He could have said something else that wasn't as ambiguous and potentially offensive to the PC and the non-reactivity to it bothers me when your elf PC comes from such a background as they do.

The one I was supposed to release today. :/ *mutters* It's one I had nothing written of yet and it doesn't want to come. I'm forcing it and I don't think it's working. I'll prolly send it tomorrow after I sleep on it.
