I don't know about anyone else, but I always figure my PC goes into the Landsmeet realizing that either Loghain (and possibly Anora) are not going to walk out, or she and Alistair aren't. For RP purposes there are a few times where I have my PC's who romance Alistair kiss him, and outside the LM chamber is one of those places, knowing it could be their last.

I do that too kinda because you don't know how it will end but also to let him know that things will work out for the best in the end.  But then I always know that I will never spare Loghain.  So for me it's more or less whatever happens, it's for the best and as he says in a different conversation, if it's for the best interest of Fereldan than I will do it.

My PC does what she must because it's in the best interest for Fereldan.  But I'm also telling Alistair that it's not going to be as unpleasant as he thinks, before we walk into those doors lol.  Yes he's going to be King but he's not going to have to do it on his own, which he doesn't know until afterwards lmao.

Executing him? Perhaps. I can see the arguments on both sides and I have had characters go both ways. Executing him in that way just give you a reputation as a vengeful brute. Such a reputation has its uses in that political climate, but I can't imagine that Alistair won't regret the way in which it happened at a later date. Justice is a good thing, vengeance is a scary path for a leader to take.

I'm sure that how it plays out is game mechanics. I highly doubt that in reality you would hold an execution in the high chamber, on the nice carpet and all. Just as if you lose the LM, Loghain orders you be taken outside for the execution.

I don't think Alistair will regret it at all. His vengeance happens to coincide with the right thing to do, that's all. Whichever side was going to come out ahead in the LM, it was hardly going to be a dispassionate affair.

This is why I have Alistair duel him if I'm not going to spare Loghain. It just feels twenty kinds of wrong for my PC to be making that decision. At least if Alistair duels him, it feels like it is part of the duel and not a clear decision to publicly execute him.

Same here.

The rules of the duel said "until one party yields" and you have no authority to excute him at that point. That doesn't sit well with me. So unless I want to spare Loghain, Alistair duels him and it ends with Loghain's head seperated from his shoulders. No discussion, no decision.

Why oh why didn't they include an option to at least "talk" about the possibility of a marriage just before the landsmeet?

You know, I know the rules say until one party yields, but the yielding party is going to be executed. So I don't think it's a huge deal to kill Loghain right there. I always let Alistair do it, hoever, except on my CE.

My HNF always feels bad that he has to go out in shame, though. He was the Hero of River Dane for 30 years. Even though what he did was unexcusable, she thinks what he did for his country merits a less humilating death. Like Cauthrien says, he is the reason I was born into freedom. My char never really forgot that.

Better face, but not a close-up.

Finally, what I imagined transpiring between Chancellor Cousland and Alistair during Awakening:

A-
I had this painting commissioned for you, so you wouldn't miss me too much while I was away.

Alistair: Aww.That's my girl.
Alistair: *hangs in royal bed chambers*

I always kiss him just prior too.  After the Landsmeet I always go to camp and the tent with him one last time before Morrigan gets her claws into him.

I have Alistair duel him firstly because he's the one who takes him down the quickest (with Starfang all runed up and poisoned it takes next to no time) and because if he kills Loghain in front of the whole Landsmeet it goes a LONG way towards making the other nobles realise that he's not just a figurehead imo.

I don't necessarily agree with the scene itself, but in the interest of game mechanics it works. We can't "Take him outside". I actually don't mind when Alistair deuls him, but it is sort of off when you do it.

Grrr I hate the swamp witch.

yep, Cailan's armor, Maric's blade and Duncan's shield.  He becomes a right cutting figure in that and its the last thing Loghain sees, Maric's blade slicing through him.

*Edit* damn getting all kinds of fanfic images from this thread.

I like the idea they don't kind of lol. Because when I'm going into the landsmeet I'm not 100% sure that I want to take that path, more like 99.9%. When I do make that finale decision it's after talking to Alistair and Anora, with Anora it's just so I can call her a ruthless bytch lmao. But seeing Alistair's hesitation when your talking to him, even if he is hardened, I can't subject him to do this alone.

Edit:  lmao, I do the tent thing too before having to go to Redcliff and having to deal with Morrigan and her DR.  This is gonna sound crude but oh well.  I always imagine that because I had just done the wonderful deed with Alistair that our love-making is still fresh in his mind and maybe even the smell of us being together is still fresh also Posted Image

No I think it should be an option. Not like, hey I love you will you marry me, but like you know, I AM from a very powerfull noble family......*hint*

Or they could have given him a better response. That would have worked for me, too. (after you say it, that is, not just "really, you will?")

Yeah, I learned my lesson about keeping Loghain alive. Only ever did it once out of curiosity. It was a snap decision while playing through the Landsmeet, if it had been planned I would certainly make sure Alistair and my PC weren't in a relationship because it's just too sad (I had him executed, I went all out).

So after that ordeal, I speak to Loghain. His response to when you tell him that he cost you Alistair is what made me go "OH HELL NAW, IT'S ON." So I reloaded and killed him with great pleasure. He'll never see the light of day after a Landsmeet again >:}

Yep I did it to satisfy my curiousity once and I don't remember if I forced Al to marry Anora or had her spare him.  I wanted to see what Loghain had to say in camp. Smug bastard just made me want to kill him again so I reloaded and went to town on his ugly butt.  Very smug, arrogant and unlikeable for me.

Anyone else find the more you grow to like an NPC the cuter/hotter they look?  When I first saw Alistair I thought he was kind of goofy and not my type then I spoke to him and got to know the NPC better and rrrrrooooowwwrr.  Same with Nathaniel.  All I could see was Howe at first but having him in my group (he was my lockpicker and got selected a lot) and as time went by he got better and better looking for me till I liked him better than Anders.  I love how the selection response changes as they get more approval with you.

Yes.

I actually have him use Cailan's Crest as well.  His normal weapons are Duncan's Sword/Shield, but for the Landsmeet, my goal to show that I clearly intend to put him on the throne.  I take Duncan's shield for the Landsmeet.  Me = GW, Alistair = King  I want everyone there to understand that.

Edit:  This scene is written out already, from Loghain's PoV.  *whispers conspiratorily*  KnightofPhoenix loved it.  Shhh, don't tell him I told you.

In my fanfic my HNF proposes to him just after they start seeing each other - maybe a month or so. He's in the doldrums because Eamon wants him to be king and she says "Well, I'll be there, so you'll be fine."

She does say she'll only let him become king if he wants to though.

Yeah but the dude wasn't warned. In fact one of the things he says if he declines it "don't you think you should have spoken to me about this" (or something to that effect) A little more dialogue. Andto me he sort of acts too similar to the way he does when he and Anora become engaged, and that isn't a loving thing.

LOL I should try that next time.  I don't like the stats on the shield and usually sell it instead of use it. But I will save it next playthrough.  I like the sound of that.

EDIT:

Alistair hesistates when you talk to him?  Which line?  B/c he's pretty firm when I talk to him.  It could be the order I have the dialogue path follow.  His only real hesitation for me is when I ask if he's willing to give up his freedom.

Edit:  Well, the sword and shield are a set.  I keep them as Alistair's secondary weapons, just like Lya keeps the Cousland Sword/Shield as a secondary sets.  They are important family items, and I would never sell them.

I'm defective: My Alistair is DW. If I know he's going to duel, he goes with Duncan's sword, Rose's Thorn and, well...

I don't even think that's Wade's Dragonskin, just plain-old dragonbone splintmail to reduce fatigue. :?

A DW Alistair?! *mind has been blown* I don't think I could ever do that.

Though I must say, I will always LOOOVE Alistair in splitmail. Just like I love how Lya looks in Scalemail. I wish I knew where to find a pretty matching set of it somewhere in game so I could run around towns in that instead of in plate all the time.
