Popping in here for a second.  I give up trying to follow this thread entirely.

Personally, I like both vanilla Alistair and Maricistair.  However, what I really want is for someone to come up with a mod so I can have vanilla Ali (or IA Alistair, even) in the original game, and have Maricistair for just Awakenings.  Because then I could justify it, you know?  It's like, "Oh, he's been King for a year, of course he grew his hair out."   Plus I think he looks more regal with Maric-hair, anyway.  On the other hand, he looks SO WEIRD at the beginning of the game in his splitmail with long hair.  It just doesn't suit him at that point, at least.  However, as King, it looks SO AWESOME.

Anyway, I'm random and weird.  Surprise!

You know what I also think looks good? Alistair in glasses.  I made in on the Sims 3 and gave him dorktastic glasses, and I think he rocks them myself.

(this is my offering considering I don't have any other screenshots of Alistair in game. Hope it works. And yes, that is Duncan in the background doing dishes. :D)

Sims Alistair is a GQ motherfxxcker :o

xDD In today's hipstery fashion world there's a very fine line between dork and "cool" or whatever.

I think men should stop bothering to wear shorts, since they aren't actually short anymore. They've officially defeated the purpose.

Who's wearing shorts?

@bl00drequiem: Alistair is a Theirin. Being unacknowledged by his father doesn't change his blood.

As far as any legal claim to throne goes, yes, it does :P

Yes, he has Maric's blood, but not Maric's name, since he never acknowledged him. Realistically he would go by whatever his mother's surname was. And since Maric never acknoldged him as his son, nor did Cailin ever acknowledge him as his brother, he has no real claim to the throne. That's what I'm saying. Sure he may be in blood, but ultimately, as far the question of the succession goes, that doesn't matter a tinker's dam.

The funny thing is that Zevran teases him about his hair, and we're giving him Zevran hair... LOL

What I can see is that because you're out on the road a lot, he ends up growing his hair long and getting scruffy just because it's a bother to cut it.  So, by end game it's justifable that his hair would be longer.  Then it would have been, depending on your estimates, a year or so out on the road.

And yes, that is Duncan in the background doing dishes. :D)

ROFL!!!

This. AND if you spare Loghain and talk to him, Maric didn't PUBLICLY acknowledge him, but did in private, and at one point almost did so publicly.

It's also likely that he cuts his hair himself, or even the PC/Wynne/Leliana/Zevran do it. It's not like you'd never have the time to do it xD Long hair is justifiable but I personally think unlikely (during Origins at least after that I find it more possible but I don't think he'd take on Cailan's exact hairstyle). Then again, in our hands he has to have whatever hairstyle we want him to, he doesn't have much say

I just finished discussing this with Loghain. He didn't publicly acknowledge him, no. But he was indeed Theirin, Eamon, Loghain, Rowan, AND Cailan all knew about him. Anora tells you herself that cailan knew of him, was fond of him, and it was Eamon that kept him out of court. He was indeed acknowledged by his family AS an heir if the need arose.

He doesn't need to be acknowledged to have a claim.  The game flat out tells us this.  Simply being Maric's son is enough legality for him to challenge the throne.  He might not be successful, but he does have a legal claim.  Otherwise, Eamon's plan has zero chance of working.  As far as surnames, in order to hide him, he of course could not have the Theirin name.  He probably either had the maid's name or none at all.  But that has no bearing one a legal claim to the throne.

@bl00d- I don't think being acknowledged is all that important with regards to succession. The importance of having Theirin blood to be able to have a claim on the throne is mentioned constantly. And Alistair at that point in time was the only one who had it.

@Jakia- I'd be able to test it had I not deleted the Awakening save file I had out of frustration of the trap detecting bug, but alas. D: I take it the override doesn't carry over to the expansion then? Have you tried it out?

And LOL DUNCAN. xD

I just tweaked the original a little; gave him a different hairstyle and added a bit of stubble. I got the original mrh file from here along with all the head morphs used in the game. His is under the Global folder with the filename genfl_alistair. Enjoy? 8D

EDIT: Oh, but you'll have to add a "hm_" prefix to the mor file you export once you're done tweaking your Alistair head morph in order for it to override properly. So in the end you should have a hm_genfl_alistair.mor file.

Thank you, I hope that will work ... without the strange highlights. We'll see.

Perfect. Full stubble and some reduced lines. Probably not the last time I played with it. Thank you again, it's so easy and I spent days wondering how to do it. *facepalm*

You know, the point of the Landsmeet is to support one of the two contenders and make the not-quite-claim a legal claim. That's what I thought, anyway.

Yeah, I've had that conversation. The problem is that he DIDN'T publicly aknowledge him. If he had, Alistair would have a claim, but since he didn't there is only a small group of those who were close to Maric that know this to be the truth. As far as most are concerned, it's only a rumor that Alistair is Maric's son, and not fact. Anyway, Loghain only admits this to you in private if you spare him, and certainly not to the whole Landsmeet, so all they see is a rumored bastard of a dead king, with no real legal claim to his supposed father or brother's throne.

Don't get me wrong, I get that it comes down to being a story, and stories often time mesh easily like that, but Lord, if I was Loghain I would crushed Alistair and Eamon like bugs with those facts.

The override DOES continue over into the expansion.  Unfortunately, I'll go back to playing origins and forget I had the override installed and freak out because Alistair suddenly has long hair. >.<

Basically, I'm lazy and want a mod to do it for me. :D

This information is in the game but collides with the theory that Alistair is Fiona's son. Rowan died two years before Fiona's son was born.

I think the big kicker is that Anora makes no challenge of Alistair's blood. She's the one who would gain most if his blood was a real question. His birth seems to have been an open secret in the nobility, at least those closest to the throne.

Re. Maricstair: Of course you know, I'm already mentally setting up my Maricstair/Fiona 2.0 kisses in the Deep Roads. I am a sad sap.

It also comes down to who is doing the telling. Its not like it's some dimwit on the street making the claim. It's the Arl of Redcliffe. Loghain couldn't have crushed them with facts, He and Anora both knew it was true.

Lady Jess: Going by the age David Gaider gave for Alistair, Rowan was dead before Alistair was born. If you want to be technical, that doesn't say she knew either. I think it's just part of the fiction that was made up to hide Alistair.

And see?  He has to swear off his claim for himself and his heirs.  they would have a claim, too, simply by having his blood.
