Certainly, but he acts as if crushing on a mage is the worst thing he could ever do. It just seems odd to me considering Wynne's claim. Unless templars view apostates as sub-human or something, I dunno.

EDIT: and srsly... for a religion that is so matriarchal, templar rapists seem extremely messed up.

I'm sure some templars do indeed think mages are sub-human and are ripe for abuse.  This is Wynne's convo when you tell her your background to becoming a warden:

"It sickens and saddens me to hear what men in power inflict on those who they ought to serve and protect.  I have heard stories that some templars who hunt malificarum do not end the hunt with a clean death.  They subject the victim to countless... abuses and indignities before they finish it.  But this is just rumour."

That's assuming that it is the norm at Kinloch Hold. I could see it being much more pervasive in Orlais, since they're also a culture that basically winks at noble excess and 'owning' elves.

ETA: Whoops, read something wrong. I need to replay the CE origin.

Since we're talking about the Tower (again... this is like mage chick central in here LOL), I'll run by another theory I have on the environment there.  In the Fade, the Mages Asunder nightmare has that one room where the mage is saying "we can't trust anybody, not even ourselves, so the answer is just to kill- kill everybody" and they proceed to fireball each other and you.  That plus the creepy fact that Irving knows about Jowan and Lily even before you tell him and basically hints that he knows everything about everyone, and the fact that you're expected to inform on Jowan, give it all a very Stasi feel.  I would imagine that it is very hard for a mage to ever trust anyone.  I, at least, always picture my mages somewhat f'ed up in the relationship department, though all in all Anders seems pretty well-adjusted.  I think my current mage is decently well-adjusted, too, all told.

This is why I always played mages focused on being awesome and earning Irving's trust and admiration, because they want to be able to leave that place whenever and as much as they can. In that, Wynne is their role model.

Now, a Barbarian Maricstair and a CRM (with bonus eyebrow)

Also, bonus bonus shot that isn't very good, but I like the atmosphere (and Alistair is in it, so...)

I would hazard a guess that some templars take certain liberties. Wynne doesn't know any more than the others, since what she's going to know is hearsay. On the other hand, you have templars like Alistair, who takes relationships seriously but is cool with joking about sex, or Cullen, who is shy and bashful. Templars are like any other group of people- there are bound to be some bad apples, but there are good ones as well.

If you have a culture of sexual exploitation, however, even the not-so-bad apples will permit themselves things that others wouldn't.  Social expectations enforcing a norm.  It does seem to be more of a feature of Orlesian life than Fereldan that powerful men take their liberties.  Maybe even because of the Orlesian occupation, where Fereldan women (and men, maybe) would have been the targets.  Then again there's Vaughn, and the fact that the Chantry priestess just stands by and does nothing.

I think if there was a societal expectation of exploitation, Alistair would have more things to say about that than he does, given the kind of person he is.  Rapes happen every day in our society, but that doesn't mean it's condoned.

And don't forget the effects of lyrium addiction.  It is quite common that the worst group atrocities in wartime are carried out by troops on drugs or drink.

Has anyone done RtO with IA installed? For the first time I got Maric's blade as dragonbone (as it should be, being such a powerful blade as it's made out to be) but Duncan's weapons dropped to Silverite. Any time I've done this at max level Everything has been dragonbone EXCEPT maric's blade. It was stuck at Red Steel. I'm very confused >.<

What is going on here?  Ali has an arm growing out of his head.  Oh wait, that's his arm, right?  Drawing back for some stabbity?  He looks like he's about to stab the camera, actually.

As I said, I don't get the sense that it's as prevalent in Ferelden as it seems to be in Orlais.  But Ali wasn't a full templar, so he might not know.

Do you think mages might also get lyrium addled?  Might explain the existence of Senior Enchanter Sweeney. (edit:  and Godwin)

That's his going into Flurry pose, I believe. And, were I him, I might want to stab the camera. It really shouldn't take me an hour to get through the Tower of Ishal, which is exactly what happened last night. I didn't even take that many pictures, I was just having fun looking around.

Ugh, I hate the Alistair's Family quest so much. I want to smack the **** out of Goldanna, dammit. At the same time I kind of understand her bitterness, but still. SEETHE. Especially with how bumbling and excited Alistair is before you go into her house... ;^;

Lol, random rage. I just got to this part in my current playthrough, it pisses me off so much every. single. time.

Greagoir seems like he runs a pretty tight ship as far as his Templars are concerned.  I don't think Irving would sit idly by while it was happening either.  I could easily see the Templars raping the mages with the previous Knight-Commander and First Enchanter though.  First Enchanter Remille was ready to throw the whole of humanity under the bus to bolster his own arcane knowledge and political standing.

Obviously there was some consensual bump and grind going on at the Tower though.  Wynne pretty much comes right out and says as much.  Also, I didn't get the feeling that the child she bore had be conceived via rape.

Ali:  We need to reach the top and light the beacon!
PC:  Waiiit... just one more minute.  Turn your leg there, just so.  Now lift the sword just a bit higher, can't have your peeper showing.  Perfect!  Now hold....

I really have to get Ali on dual longsword.  I went for Momentum first, but we've got Maric's sword now and I'm impatient for the big flashy shinies.

Oh yes, the whole culture is extremely unhealthy for all those caught up in it.  The jailors and the prisoners.  There are likely to addicts and pushers on both sides.  No I don't think Irving or Gregoir would sanction any violence or rape within the confines of the tower but who knows what happens when a bunch of templars have chased down and captured a mage in the woods or the wilds?

Don't know about anyone else, but I literally winced the first time I heard her say "you killed our mother, you did."

I would think a Templar would have to bind and gag a mage before raping them.  Raping someone that could make you spontaneously brust into flames wouldn't be that bright of an idea.  I'm sure if they could probably bind the mage that they would do that though as an intimidation tactic if nothing else.

I about fell of my chair when I saw that. It's a new armor set that I was wearing, it conflicts with her robes.

PC: Wait, no, there's an errant blood splatter between you and the camera. Let's try again on that hurlock over there!
Ali: I'm really not comfortable being naked in front of, you know, strange men. And there's still that beacon to light...
PC: It's cool, it'st cool. We're getting there. We're just doing it incredibly slowly.
