I suppose it's possible but the interview says that you stab him through the head. Even in an age of magic I doubt he'd get up from that kind of injury.

I don't think there's any alternate perspective this piece brings, that you cannot get already simply by getting your team killed in the Denerim fight. That's basically the whole difference compared to the core game.Sandtigress wrote...
I'm actually really interested in the alternate perspective this grants. I just....I just don't think I can bring myself to kill Alistair! *clings* Maybe if I let one of my minions do it and turn around so I can't see and just hope hope hope they don't cut-scene it?
In addition i can't help but think this DLC is hardly going to make people feel their darkspawn is 'powerful' and whatnot when the progression in it actually hinges on the Wardens being able to beat the snot out of the darkspawn all way to the archdemon. It's really poorly selected for what they're trying to achieve with it.
I can actually see where they're coming from for this - in the "real" timeline, the Warden prevents the complete destruction of Denerim. In the AU, you'll be successful at destroying the Alienage, etc. and the emotional impact would be from you witnessing what you were able to prevent.
And there probably will be a different sensation coming to the archdemon's rescue instead of the other way around. I think for me at least it will be an interesting twist on things. It's the killing Alistair part that I'm really struggling with. I don't even mind so much killing the rest of the party - in fact, I've done it on various occasions with most of them.
But I can't even stand playing my blood mage who hates Alistair and makes him sad, and I've never done the Warden Commander achievement because I can't bear to let him sacrifice himself. So actually killing him....I'm just going to have to close my eyes and apologize over and over and over and over again, and then maybe write something happy and fluffy for him.

It's a misleading line, I say! They only want you to think you can triumph, but Alistair in all his manly wonderfulness will prevail! /denial

I remember someone starting up a thread speculating that Morrigan was in fact The Mother. I bet s/he'd be absolutely thrilled. The possibilities...! <3Axekix wrote...

I kinda am too. It said what if you failed the joining. It never said you WIN the DLC. Well it may have, I just didn't see it, but something has to explain a sword magically appearing in your inventory...lol
On the upside, if Alistair is the final boss and a badass mofo to kill, maybe the haters will STFU about him being a wuss after he kicks their arses a few times. Clearly it's going to take you, an army, AND an Arch Demon to take him out.

Based on that designer interview i think they're after something much simpler -- to give the player visceral feel and satisfaction of being able to burn the **** down. And i just don't think it's going to really work out like that for them. Because having played the very same fight already from the other side the player has it firmly in their mind that even if the Alienage gets destroyed etc, what happens next is the Wardens come and stomp the darkspawn flat on their way to archdemon up in the tower. And they can't change that even with the "alternate universe" schtick because if the final fight with the archdemon is to happen, then it means the Wardens must beat the darkspawn on their way there. And that's the one fight you might be allowed to actually win, but i wonder if it won't be "too little, too late".Sandtigress wrote...

For people not on twitter, the video for Darkspawn Chronicles and an interview with the lead designer is up now.
Alistair gets killed ("kill the Warden King"), it's a "visceral experience" (too bad for those of us who prefer cerebral), and the darkspawn win, because clearly your PC is a god on earth and humanity can't survive without her.

Must say i'd laugh my behind off if they made the followers simply unkillable by giving them the usual player tactics -- chug the unlimited amounts of health/mana pots, mana-clash any spell caster you try to bring against them and dps the trolls into oblivion, always interrupting and grab attempts etc.Lady Jess wrote...

Does it really say Alistair's pathetic if he gets mobbed by dozens of darkspawn and taken down, especially if he has no mage? Those numbers are just ridiculous and it is, quite frankly, a miracle that they actually manage to win in Origins.Addai67 wrote...
