It's a peculiar decision. The biggest complaints about DLC have been about a lack of effect the story/relationships, or the limited nature of interaction as a whole. ie RtO. Then the biggest complaint about Awakening was (again) limited character interaction, and a lack of returning characters. So what's their solution? To bring the characters back, have no interaction, and kill them. Uh...dudes. DLC: You're doing it wrong.
I think the problem is that they created a model for the next generation of games, in terms of storytelling, but they just don't have the funding or time to follow that up properly, or repeat it. Origins may actually have been all we'll get.
This worries me the most. A trend in low quality, crap DLC that runs in opposition to the oevrall awesomeness that DA was.
Seriously. Sell me on why I would have any interest in playing a darkspawn. If we were discussing a DLC where you play through the eyes of an Awakened darkspawn and see the story through a different set of eyes, then that might have potential. But in origins, darkspawn are mindless, destructive juggernauts that do not have discernable opinions or points of view. It really is no different in experience from playing any other canned "kill everything" game.
Even killing Alistair or Morrigan doesn't bother me that much, if I was playing, say, as one of Loghain or Howe's goons, seeing the story from the opposing side, because there would be alot more to experience, new potential dilemas and questions as you are sent to hunt down or foil the Warden's plans. Or, to play as an awakened darkspawn and experience what it is like for the first time to have free will and sentience, unique amongst your kind.
But a darkspawn? Just run of the mill emmisary/alpha? Where's the appeal? What's the motivation for playing something that just swings axes and kills stuff without purpose, motive, or goal, other than to destroy everything?
Frankly, I'd rather they work on continuing Dragon Age: Journeys than this lame-brained BS. They are doing themselves no favors here.
